Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Implies Arkham City's Deadshot Was a Fake

The upcoming Suicide Squad title is an Arkham sequel but features a new Deadshot. Now developer Rocksteady has offered an explanation for the switch.

That’s just coming off as a bullshit excuse to make sense of it, I liked the design of Deadshot in AC, now he’s a fake because Rocksteady were so bothered about basing him on Will Smiths version who was an awful version of the character (Will playing himself) and also from a lousy film most didn’t like.

What was the point? Unless they were told to off WB, they could have brought in Bronze Tiger

Or it just doesn’t matter and they did what they wanted to do? Regardless how you feel about the rest, they have not 1 but 2 dead shots in their universe. And that’s fine

To be fair, Arkham City came out over 9 years ago and not enough thought was put into that iteration of Deadshot. He was a fairly poor version of the character. Most people prefer the retconned Origins' version who, while played by the same actor, doesn't even have the same voice (it didn't actually make sense back then either but who cares).

He was too goofy, the voice type (which the new Deadshot actually has when he has the mask on - a nice touch) was so much better in Origins, he had a rubbish boss fight (easily beatable in under a minute), and race aside, even the Will Smith version's suit looks more like the classic portrayal of the character.

They just defaulted to the cartoon version at that time (even the same voice actor, Jesse Cox).

WB games had a good thing going but after HBO max and discovery took over they just wanted live service games. They want steady steam of revenue. Just like Sony has a good thing going but they keep trying to make live service games and failing

CrimsonWing6922d ago

Let this be a f*cking lesson to you.

The_Hooligan22d ago

Nah, they still won't learn. They'll just blame the next live service flop on some bs excuse and layoff more people.

Redgrave21d ago

It hasn't been a lesson to any other studio this happened to, WB least of all.

Goodguy0122d ago

Man...imagine if we got a new batman arkham (or new ip/hero title) game this generation with all the og talent from rocksteady. Instead insane greed got in WBs heads to force this very once taleneted studio to make a filthy generic live service. This is how you kill an amazing well renown studio which unfortunately happens much too often in the game industry.

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League True Ending Offers Sliver of Hope for Future Arkhamverse Games

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's true ending offers a slight hope for Rocksteady's future Arkhamverse games.

anast140d ago

No, it doesn't. It's not good. It really isn't a good game. Game writers should find a good indy game or something instead of giving bad games positive advertisements.

Redgrave140d ago

Well said.

When you basically have to "jk" everyone in a poorly executed and thinly veiled attempt to save face, your story wasn't good. To me, this little fakeout so long after the fact almost makes the entire thing worse.

WB finally realized their characters are worth more alive?

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88154d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z154d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.
