Cyberpunk 2077 offers a performance vs. quality mode on the Xbox Series X. This mode is apparently not available for the PS5.

Until the official patches come for the next gen consoles next year, I wouldn't even bother playing in the "quality" setting. the differences are marginal at best, and you are getting a more fluid experience with "performance". Wait for the real patch to release, and then you can decide which mode you want to run under.

Bluemaster771651d ago

Quality runs at a higher resolution. How are you the authority on how people should play the games that they paid for?

Snowflakes hate opinions

RgR1651d ago (Edited 1651d ago )

Well only in modern silly times do we have these 2 modes.

In more sensible times people would normally expect to see the games running one version and that version being the most stable.

Nowadays you got this weird group of people so hungry for a small resolution boost that they're willing to give up on performance. Maybe not the authority....but definitely the voice of reason.

Fps > Resolution always.

After all. We don't play the graphics. We play the game.

Time is better spend on other things than on giving us 2 modes.

--Onilink--1651d ago (Edited 1651d ago )

@RgR

Except that if the game in performance mode is nowhere near a locked 60fps and Quality mode does stay locked in 30fps, a lot of people will prefer a capped consistent 30fps instead of a performance mode that is all over the place

Neonridr1651d ago

The images look questionable. I'd be interested to see the resolution differences. You can't tell me those images look all that different. Yes, you are free to decide for yourself. I was simply suggesting waiting for the real patch o release to help make up your mind. You don't have to get so ruffled my friend.

NeoGamer2321651d ago

@RgR
Options are good.

On a PS4 or XBO I am sure that you would only run it in lower quality mode.

But, if you have a PS5 or XSX I would think it wouldn't be a problem running in quality mode.

The game has yet to ship a true next gen version. Providing this option allows next gen console gamers to get "more" next gen version.

lukasmain1650d ago

PS5 runs it pretty good apparently
-- "The majority of my time with Cyberpunk was spent on PS5, playing the game through backwards compatibility, where the game is set to 60 frames-per-second. And, on PS5 the game runs surprisingly well and looks gorgeous. Lighting is excellent and the world pops in a way you would want from a cityscape like this. The game also holds at a nice and steady 60 FPS, but there are small drops, although it is nothing major." -- https://www.psu.com/news/cy...

Tbh, it kind of sucks that they didn't just add a Quality Mode in the PS4 Pro version with a dynamic resolution and a warning "Performance Mode recommended. Quality Mode is intended for backwards compatible play on PS5" or something like that. I'm definitely waiting for the PS5 version. Hopefully, that gets released by early Spring and we don't have to wait until the Summer or anything.

Bluemaster771651d ago

Well that's the downside to Sony's software environment. It takes more heavy lifting for devs to implement these kinds of features across their platforms.

Though Xbox's GDK isn't as mature, the conditions for cross platform/generational support is better.

gamer78041651d ago

I’m playing in quality. Looks really good!

thornintheside1651d ago

To be honest CDPR havent even given a release date for the next gen patch, not even which year. I keep hearing next year, and yeah it sounds likely, but has CDPR actually said that, or is it just speculation?.

CaptainHenry9161650d ago

Glad I got it on the PC. The RTX 3080 does wonders for this game

I wouldn't rush out to buy the game just wait till next gen patch. Sure you csn play it now but your likely finish it within a few weeks

Aussieguy1651d ago

I guess the Series x has some uses. Good to play old games on and has Game Pass 😉

1651d ago
Flewid6381651d ago

Wait.....this game is on GamePass?

Aussieguy1649d ago

Its backwards compatible isn't it 😒 ?

Bluemaster771651d ago

You guys gotta get more creative lol.

FyBy1651d ago

Its several times finished discussions about compatibility modes on XSX and PS5. On XSX, you can issue small patch. On PS5, you need to release completely new game (new SKU) to be able go out of BC mode into PS5 native mode. Maybe not so fortunate but its fact.

dazzysima1651d ago

Drivel. From start to finish.

This is nice for Xbox for old or last gen games but it won’t matter sooner than later .

Cyberpunk 2077's 2.3 Update Opens a Pandora's Box the Game Can't Close

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a new update after developers previously stated it no longer would, bringing the possibility of more still to come.

I'm hoping the update fixes their poor FSR 3 implementation, and add FSR 4. FSR 2 looks better than FSR 3 in CP2077 by a wide margin. On my 7900XT I just use XESS if I want to add RT at custom 3K resolutions. Already beat the main game, but half way through Phantom Liberty expansion. I would like to get back to it later on this month.

anast2d ago

I have more hours in this game than any other. I would happily put more into it.

MastaMold2d ago

I second this and a PS5 PRO patch too please.

TheGamersDojo1d 21h ago

This would be really nice.

RhinoGamer882d ago

I finished it and had a blast, wish there was a new game + option.

Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2: a cutting-edge game translates well to Nintendo's console hybrid

Few games among the Nintendo Switch 2 launch line-up can match Cyberpunk 2077 in putting the system through its paces. It's a staple of our PC benchmarking suite for good reason: the open world design is a solid stressor for any CPU, while its effects-heavy battles challenge GPU resources as well. This Switch 2 release has clearly been a big undertaking for developer CD Projekt Red too, who produced the port in-house with unique optimisations for Switch 2's ARM-based architecture. It's also remarkably the Ultimate Edition of the game, with both the core adventure and the more taxing Phantom Liberty expansion bundled in - an extra portion that proved too demanding to justify a last-gen console release, and was instead restricted to PS5 and Series X/S, and yet here it is running on Switch 2.

To cut to the chase, Switch 2 offers a truly viable way to enjoy Cyberpunk, either in a portable format or docked under a TV. However, CDPR has shot for the stars in its ambition to include Phantom Liberty as well, and it's here that Switch 2 hits some technical limits - with frame-rates struggling as we explore its newer Dog Town region. Still, that aside, there's a lot to admire in the game's engineering for Nintendo's new console overall, and how competitive it is in comparison with other consoles.

I am happy for CDPR. Their hard work paid off because the Switch 2 version are always in the top 5 Switch 2 launch game sales.

jznrpg3d ago

Not much launched with it besides ports so it should be expected I guess.

OMNlPOTENT2d ago

I mean.. what did the PS5 launch with? One exclusive in Demon's Souls?

repsahj2d ago

@Omnipotent
Not just PS5, Series X has zero launch games. XD

DivineHand1253d ago (Edited 3d ago )

This may be one of the weakest launch lineups Nintendo has ever had, with Mario Kart being the only first party game, but Cyberpunk 2077 will definitely give you tremendous value for your money.

One tip I can give people who have never played the game is to first read books from the cyberpunk subgenre. This will allow you to appreciate the story much better. If you find yourself asking which life path is the best to take at the start of the game, in this case it is Corpo, Streetkid, and Nomad. You likely don't know enough about the genre, and certain things will fly right over your head. While it is not mandatory, the game will be 10 times better if you read or listen to some books first.

Some books I have enjoyed in that genre are:
Cyber Dreams by Plum Parrot,
Stray Cat Strut by RavensDagger
Tower of Somnus by Cale Plamann
Mist Runner by Nicholas Searcy

If you can only read or listen to 1 book, then I recommend Cyber Dreams by Plum Parrot. It is the closest thing to Cyberpunk 2077.

anast3d ago

Or play the TTRPG which is was based on.

Profchaos3d ago

I'd say its stronger than the switch as Mario kart has a broader appeal than zelda.

It was also a better launch line-up than the gamecube and possibly wii u

DivineHand1253d ago

@Profchaos the WiiU likely had the worst of the bunch which is partly why the system failed.

The gamecube had smash bros melee that launched 2 months after the initial release and that is one of the best games to release on that console. I assume every gamecube owner would be happy with that game.

The switch had Breath of the Wild which is still considered one of the best games of all time. I remember playing through that game and unlocked every equipment, upgraded every equipment to the max, found all the dragons, defeated all the Lynels and completed all the shrines in that game before defeating Ganon at the end. It was a good time from start to finish and made up for the lack of other launch games.

I just think that if they had us waiting that long for the switch 2, they should have more than just 1 or 2 first party games ready within the launch window. If we had at least gotten a trailer for a new 3D mario I would be extremely happy. With the current switch 2 lineup, there is no draw to go out and get it immediately like a new console launch should make you feel. Right now the main appeal is to provide a quality of life update to play switch 1 games.

OMNlPOTENT2d ago

There is also a book directly related to the universe of Cyberpunk 2077, it's called "No Coincidence". I thought it was a pretty good read.

Kornholic2d ago

"One tip I can give people who have never played the game is to first read books from the cyberpunk subgenre."

If somebody gave me this advice before I started my first Cyberpunk 2077 playthrough, I wouldn't have even bought the game in the first place.

DivineHand1252d ago

True because I wouldn't have played it either. It's just that I read those books after playing the game and thinking back, a lot of the motivations of each character started making more sense.

I just wanted to through that tip out there to recommend someone try to understand the cyberpunk genre more before playing. They will get more out of the game.

badz1493d ago

40 vs 60 fps is not something that I would even consider calling "competitive"

1nsomniac3d ago

Then you don’t know enough about the subject you’re trying to talk about..

badz1493d ago

hahaha...what? are you serious right now? the Switch 2 is not a PC where you can just change the graphical settings to get to 60fps...Unless CDPR released a patch to make it run at 60fps, that is.

As of right now, it's stuck at 40fps at best and that too with DLSS from quite a low base res already. so yeah...it's not competitive.

Profchaos3d ago

100% 40 isn't a arbitrary choice its a strategic choice because it opens up access to supporting technology on the console

Good-Smurf3d ago

DF are Nintendo's occasional bootlickers after that blatant Zelda games ad scandal.
Games like CP2077 are meant to be played on big console or powerful PC on a big screen.
Got to love how they're simp for full price purchase of 5-year-old game and still getting the worst version to play on.

1nsomniac3d ago

Wow you guys don’t let up for a second trying to blame DF for anything you can pick out the sky at any given moment. It’s embarrassing dude.

It’s always DF are bootlickers for Nintendo today, Microsoft yesterday, Sony last week. Make your mind up people… pick a side and stick to it. Sounds so stupid when you’re trying to make a point that some company is biased but that no one can make their mind up who the company is biased towards any given day of the week.

stoney1013d ago

Yep, the amount of hate they get is ridiculous. The funny thing is if you actually look at the comments on their early switch 2 videos people are slating them for not giving it enough praise and constantly comparing it to ps4.

ZycoFox3d ago

They had a "Sponsored by Nintendo" video not long ago, it literally says so at the start.

I trust them for showing frame rate analysis and they're decent for that, but their overall review for Nintendo is overrated, Mario Kart is the same game it has always been.

Really the only one that got close to topping DKR was MKDS.. So it's no wonder it's often ranked as the highest rated Mario Kart.

repsahj2d ago

It's obvious that you're not following DF. In the weeks leading up to the Switch 2's release, didn't you know that DF had so many articles downplaying the Switch 2 because they believed it was far from being more powerful than the PS4?

Phantom Liberty is a part of the game. If it can't run it. It can't run the game.
