The PS5 price of $399 for the Digital Edition and $499 for the 'Blu-ray Edition' certainly helped in making Sony's next-generation console launch the greatest yet in terms of sales.
"really great first party games came in the second part of the cycle. And we will have games of that quality, but we’re going to have them earlier in the cycle this time around."
Quality and quantity. Maybe something for gameawards.
Theyve been saying that for awhile, that we'll be getting exclusives quality/quantity from the beginning. That they are easier to make now with the ps5. Guess covid didnt really effect them that much.
Yep. Especially with games costing £70 now. For example, even 2-3 days after launch, I found a new copy of Demon's Souls on eBay for £52. Nearly £20 saved right there, and I could sell it right now for £55 - minus fees.
Who cares , if you can't afford to game don't do it. I buy all games digital and Sony always has some great deals on digital titles. 100 digital all the way for me. I don't buy any games to sell on, I buy my games to keep so resell values mean nothing
Scots that sound stupid, is not about you have the money or not. It's more about you spend it wisely, not because you have the money and throwing it around.
It was a really good choice of price. They make it only $50 cheaper and I think people are more apt to wait. But $100 made this a no brainer for digital only gamers.
Must have been worried about Microsoft undercutting their price since they were so quiet about it. I have no problem whatsoever with the price. If I could just get one....
They outsold MS 3:1 over the generation. PS5 success was guaranteed long before they decided to even make the PS5. This was really an exercise to maintain their market share in the console space.
Why didn't they say the price sooner then? They were quiet for a reason. People are very impressionable with things like price whether Sony is worried about Microsoft or not
@Muzikguy Just because they waited for MS to announce price doesn't mean they were yet to price their system.
If Sony would've announced PS5 at $550 and $450 they would've sold just as well as they are now. Only at outrageous price at $599 and higher would've slowed PS5 down.
They'd be stupid not to wait. That doesn't mean the $400/$500 price wasn't decided early. They simply waited to make sure MS wouldn't undercut that price. Had MS announced a cheaper price then Sony would've simply readjusted.
Microsoft were waiting on Sony so they could undercut them. Sony were waiting on microsoft to make sure that didn't happen. Price would have been their only real advantage. Ms basically said they would change it to get the jump on them.
Doesn't mean Sony didn't have their ideal price decided.
Sony knew well ahead of schedule. It's the gamers that couldn't wait and were having a fit. And journalists were creating negative articles.
But the proof is in the pudding:
The design and performance of the system is awesome. The UI, the controller haptics and BC is awesome. The launch games are awesome. And the price is awesome.
Gamers should have given Sony the benefit of the doubt when Sony was silent. It's not like this was Sony's first rodeo as they have been in the business for over 25 years and have won 3/4 generations. When it comes to home consoles, I think they have a good idea on what they are doing and should be given credit. They didn't want Microsoft to have any information to counter. And we are seeing the results of Sony's efforts **AGAIN**
You're just sad Sony is in a dominate position again. Even with the price.
You're comment is just more pouting. Besides the ignorance. Following a company that's worth a TRILLION. But you'd never know it as they have been lazy for years. What was those launch games again? The one swallowing poor effort seems to be on your end.
I dont believe it. I think they had a range but m$ and Sony didnt wait last minute if there price was set firm. They wanted to see what the other was doing. Otherwise why wait
Deciding early doesn't mean they wouldn't. They never changed it because Microsoft's price was also $500. Best believe they'd have dropped that shit quick if the series x was 400-450. Especially since on paper, it is more powerful. It reminds me of Nintendo's response to the Vita with the 3ds. 3ds was initially launched at $249.99 I believe, then the PS Vita price was announced as just that $249.99. The fuck would someone get a 3ds at the same price as a vita when the tech difference was so huge and they were both new? That is why they dropped the price and made the ambassador program. They knew Sony would have won a ton of marketshare.

Idk 399 for the digital version feels like such a steal. I can run my games so smoothly now and stream at 1080p 60fps.

"PS5 Price Was Decided in Early 2020"
BS.
