Gal Gadot, Brie Larson to Present at The Game Awards 2020

Spider-Man: Far From Home and Uncharted movie actor Tom Holland will be joined at The Game Awards 2020 next week by fellow film superstars Gal Gadot and Brie Larson. All three will present awards as part of the ceremony, but it is currently unclear if their inclusion will go any further than that.

The real Marvel comics Captain Marvel character is a black woman called Monica Rambeau. Disney brought in Brie Larson, not because she is a talented actress but because it wanted a white heroine and it wasn't ready to have two Marvel films lead by black characters. Larson has known nothing in her life but privilege. Who can blame her for accepting a multi-million dollar role, if it had been offered to me I’d have taken it even if I had to wear a dress, and I’m a man!

However instead of appreciating her position she then did that thing that some people do to try and portray herself as more enlightened than the majority of people, she then publicly criticised white men! On the promotional tour she said she was sick of being interviewed by 'white dudes' and she didn’t want white dudes to review her film. Now I do think there should be conversations and actions about to help more people in journalism from diverse backgrounds. But when Larson got the job because she is white, then makes comments about one race which in the UK would have her arrested for racism, she doesn't help diversity, she doesn't help black people, she doesn't help women, she just comes across as tone deaf.

The most radical thing she ever said was just that the percentage of white male movie reviewers in America is disproportionately high relative to the population and that this could have an effect on how a movie is critically received since certain experiences resonate more with certain groups than other groups (some experiences are common to all groups and some are not). I personally don't think it makes a huge difference when looking a RottenTomatoes but it is objectively true to some extent.

Also, nobody here cared when celebrities they liked (e.g. Jonah Hill, Christoph Waltz) presented awards. Let's all just chill out a bit. The actors presenting the awards have no affect on the games that win.

Total revenue generated from videogames on a yearly basis surpasses revenue generated by Hollywood. Yet somehow our industry STILL thinks it has to attach itself to Hollywood for mainstream validation. We don't need them! Its Hollywood that is slowly becoming less relevant! I even cringed when we learned that Keanu Reeves was attached to Cyberpunk 2077. Why? The game was going to be awesome and sell truckloads regardless! Yet companies just cannot help themselves!
