Steve D. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "Whether it’s top tier first party exclusives or the already immensely successful launch of the PlayStation 5, Sony quietly just had their best year ever."
“By most accounts, Sony and Microsoft have produced a similar quantity of consoles, around 2 million units each“
I’d have to disagree with this, ms started production about 2-3 months after Sony because they were waiting on AMD tech to support full RDNA 2. Sony has probably produced twice as many ps5 as Xbox.

Interesting then how PS5's APU actually turned out more advanced then huh?
SX's supposed "RDNA 2" doesn't even have the Infinity Cache. Meanwhile not only does Sony have a cache but it also has custom cache scrubbers that even AMD's RX6000 cards don't have. And funny how PS5 has a VRS and ML sytem called Geomerty Engine that is also more advanced and has geometry culling that is rumored to be part of RDNA 3.
And if your talking about sales and demand if Sony made more consoles then why is it that the average auction price of both PS5's is nearing $1100 and keeps increasing while the SX has dropped down to $750 and the price keeps dropping?
Since you like rumors. AMD had to increase its 7nm capacity by 15% and it’s still not able to meet demand. In the last quarter of 2020, AMD supplied a total of 120K wafers to the console-makers: 80K for the PS5 and 40K for the Xbox Series X|S.
So AMD is making 2x as many PS5's as Xbox's because they have seen that there is twice as much demand for PlayStations.
The PS5 is a gaming "APU" CPU&CPU. Its CPU has a shared L3 cache which puts the CPU as more of a Zen 2.1 or 2.5 than standard Zen 2. On top of that MS won't confirm it, but all rumors point ot their CPU being geared more towards sever operations which makes sense when you look at their huge push for GamePass, and they would likely be streaming content from their cloud servers directly to your Xbox Server CPU or pinging console from a console for a greater network, though the console to console thing will have to be updated in Terms and Agreement.
Next the GPU once again Xbox uses RDNA 2.0 as it exists in the graphics cards, and is basically an RX 6800 with 8 CU's disabled and a lower clock speed, whereas, the PS5 is likely based on an RX 6700 XT with 4 CUs disabled, and the clock speed pushing the upper limited of the boost frequencies, with the benefit of the geometry engine to handel game geometry frames
I never said the series X was superior, I just gave an explanation as to why they started production later then Sony. You’re arguing with the wrong guy, I’m a PlayStation fanboy.

@Abissel1. According to YouTuber Moreslawisdead the series X apu can run 4 instances of an Xbox one game at the same time, probably why it’s got the low clock speed and high cu count for the xcloud servers
The have been having greatest year ever since ps4 came out, or even since ps3 slim was introduced.. Next year is shaping up to be legendary too, with RE8 Kena GT7 God of War in Q1 alone 😲 and destruction all star for free in February

It's called perceived value. It's the same reason why Apple tends to have hire resale value over similar products despite having plenty on the market. Oh, and $1100 is actually a decrease, they were going for well over that.
Google it, Phil said they started in late summer. A couple of weeks ago he also said that the series x/s had been in production for almost 2 months. The digital foundry Xbox was just an early production prototype.
Just because Microsoft shows something before Sony does doesn’t mean they did it first. Microsoft showed the Xbox one x before the ps4 pro but the one x released a year later. It’s all marketing on ms part.
Phil came up with production date as an excuse for why series x games dont look as good as PS5. Then this was coupled with claims that MS had started later to gain an advantage in RDNA. However as it turns out PS5 actually has a more advanced custom RDNA than the series x and the difference in performance may be due to developers having a harder time optimizing for series x.
Interestingly, before launch the rumors where singing a different tune that PS5 was the one that had “production trouble”. Now that it suits MS, the story has turned upside down.
I think the issue is with the term "Full RDNA 2". Some people are misunderstanding this (not you Grilla, as you've shown). Both Sony ans MS have gone with RDNA 2 in a sense, but MS is off the shelf where Sony have heavily customised theirs with elements geared for RDNA 3.
So it's not really "full RDNA 2" in Series X, it's just RDNA 2. In PS5, it's RDNA 2, but with a couple of elements swapped out for improved versions.
There are no "accounts" at all of how many units Sony and Microsoft produced outside of the bullshit reporting by Bloomberg. linkcablegaming doesn't back up their claim at all.
And we do not have actual start dates for production for either console. All we know is Phil Spencer claimed they were "later" than the competition due to waiting for RDNA 2. But that is just waiting for the chip. The other parts would have been sourced and ready for assembly. And there is nothing stopping Microsoft from ramping up manufacturing with multiple factories.
"Sony has probably produced twice as many ps5 as Xbox."
Microsoft doesnt have more consoles made because they know they dont have the market for them. They want to say its sold out.... Right now their numbers are already worse then he xbox one and there no comparison to the demand for a ps5
The only source available to anyone right now is VGChartz. Would be great to hear from Sony and Microsoft on the subject, but I wouldn't hold your breath for the latter.
Dude, that Was right here on ng4. Last week they already sold worst then the xbox one and made much less money, because all xbox one were 499 at 2013.... Microsoft will never give numbers... Because console sales dont matter.
Would've been nice if they were better prepared. At launch for PS4, Sony learned from PS3 and manufactured a crap ton of consoles, everyone I knew that wanted a PS4 on launch day got one. Even though I camped out for pre-order of the console as soon as and was the first in my city to pre-order. PS5 has been a joke, Sony have let their consoles be swallowed up by scalpers, and interesting enough, haven't bothered to address it with any amount of empathy toward their consumers, Jim Ryan, you, sir, have a problem.
It's coronavirus year and demand is higher than ever(imho) because everyone has to stay home and they releasing a lot of movies, so we got TV shows and games, that's about it. If they had made enough PS5s to meet demand, they would have had to predict all this, plus probably start making the consoles before some of the technology that went into them was invented. It isn't ideal, but also why blame Sony? Xbox sold out too. Didn't Switch even have stock problems this year, and that console has been out a while?
Loving my ps5 but so far it’s the most glitchiest bug filled console I’ve ever owned. I get random shutdowns all the time audio loss and loads of game freezes hope these issues get packed soon as apart from that it’s amazing

Quietly?
They went with a bang!

Yeah, Last of Us II was such a quiet release lol.
I hope they quietly make more PS5s, a lot more! I need 3! (For me and my 2 boys😁) but seriously Sony, hurry up already.
