It surprises me that, up until now, I’ve never actively sought out a visual novel to combine two of my greatest loves, books and video games. This is why I thought that trying out My Aunt is a Witch, a whimsical-looking visual novel from developers Sometimes You, would be a fun experience for me. However, it turned into one of my most frustrating gaming experiences of the past few months.
VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "My Aunt is a Witch is an ambitious title with gorgeous animation and clever gameplay elements, but unfortunately the narrative doesn't measure up."
Dave writes - There’s a Studio Ghibli sheen to My Aunt is a Witch, a visual novel that takes the ‘visual’ part of the label very seriously. It’s beautiful, colourful and hand-drawn, and it’s a cracking backdrop for a Halloween-y tale. My Aunt is a Witch is out now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Vita and Switch.
Dave writes: "My Aunt is a Witch on Xbox One and Series X|S is a treat for the eyes; never less than beautiful. But it’s a witch’s glamour, as the story underneath is stodgy, mistranslated and boring. Give an editor a hatchet and some freedom, and the brambles might clear enough to make the path to a sequel more appealing."
