im now one week into the new generation and i still dont like the new controller as much as the Ds4! Its too clunky over all, the R1 and L1 buttons are too big imo and the nice round ends on the ds4 are way more confortable, it makes me sad that sony tried to copy the xbox controller :( it looks good though ill give em that!

LucasRuinedChildhood1642d ago

I disagree with your opinion on the controller (I think it feels much better) but Sony shouldn't have disabled DS4s for PS5 games to force consumers to buy a new set of controllers.

If the option for DS4 was there at launch, with over 110 million PS4s out there, a good chunk of PS5 owners would use DS4 for multiplayer games or if their DualSense breaks.

But developers and Sony want to know that gamers experience games consistently and as intended. Combine this with the R&D costs associated with the creation of a brand new controller and I can totally understand why they would choose to make DualSense mandatory - at least for now.

Assuming there's no technical reason, they could possibly patch in PS5 game support for DS4 at a later date, once the masses have witnessed the advantages of DualSense and the developers have experienced how easy it is to develop for. Only time will tell!

Honestly, picking up my DualShock4 makes me smile in a "How you doing old buddy? You used to be the best controller lol" kind of way. It still feels great, but somehow t's already a nostalgia trip and playing games on it feels odd!

unfortunately I'm one of the many w/o but.... I do remember not liking the DS4 at launch and it taking a little time before I became accustom to it. Even with PS3 @ launch w/ the Six axis and not rumble it was so awkward using those featherweight controllers. After a couple years of using theDS4 when I fired the PS3 back up it was so uncomfortable and weird using the DS3. Anyway, point being it's likely that given a month, two or perhaps even three that it'll be fine. Over time you're going to adjust and be completely happy with the controller. Or perhaps not and you'll seek alternatives if SCUF or other companies release alternative versions.

Which means Dualshock 4s should work for PS5 games (we already sort of knew this since all of the new features of the Dualsense controller can be turned off in the system settings) but they've been intentionally disabled. The PS5 recognises if you start a PS5 game with a Dualshock 4 and tells you that you can't use it.

This is one thing that I have to give MS credit for. If you want to play 4 player local multiplayer on a new PS5 game (e.g. Overcooked! All You Can Eat), then you will need to shell out €210 for 3 extra controllers even if you have 3-4 DS4s lying around from the last 7 years. This really is an unnecessary, anti-consumer move. They know that FIFA players in particular will pay for new controllers for local 1 V 1s. On the XSX, you could easily avoid having to spend that €210. You can buy Demon's Souls, Spiderman: Miles Morales and Cyberpunk 2077 with that money on PS5.

You know what's anti-consumer? Releasing a new console without new games and telling everyone how great it is.

LucasRuinedChildhood1642d ago

Dude, I own a PS5 and I don't think I'll ever bother buying a Series X which is why I said "This is one thing that I have to give MS credit for." You're not disagreeing or trying to refute what I'm saying either, your comment is just whataboutism. Just because I'm a PlayStation fan doesn't mean I need to be a mindless fanboy.

Dualsense is much better than Dualshock 4 and new Xbox controllers. I don’t mind spending money on Sony. Since Sony love taking risk.

Remote play sucks for me. I need the most expensive net plan available to actually enjoy it.

Hawk1986661642d ago

This is obvious, but remote play SUCKS!

spicelicka1642d ago (Edited 1642d ago )

Wait you can't use PS4 controllers on the PS5?? Wtf why would they not allow that? The DS5 controller is great but it's freakin expensive! If you want to play split-screen or couch co-op you have buy another DS5, makes no sense to me. Not every game uses DS5 is some unique way.

Battlefield Labs PS5 Pre-Alpha Touts 60fps, Weaker Aim Assist Compared to COD, M&K Allegedly Works

Early impressions from Battlefield Labs PS5 pre-alpha build from community members confirm 60fps, no Tactical Sprint and more.

I got invited and for a pre alpha im already liking where this game is going, they might have something with this one fellas

_SilverHawk_6m ago(Edited 4m ago)

It's actually a good game. Its slower than recent battlefield titles but the gunplay is quite good. I like it. Hopefully I'm able to play the beta when its released but I haven't experienced anything i don't like other than a few bugs thats expected in pre-alpha
