Great game if you're into turn-based RPG's. One thing to note though is heavy dialogue and cutscenes, some spanning over 15-30 minutes at a time. However I will say, it's a great storyline and really humanizes a lot of people who typically are seen in a negative light (ie homeless). It's similar to Persona 5 where it's a very long storyline but very well written.

HyperMoused52d ago

Seriously 15-30mins?, Quantum Break did that and really took me out of the game, was thinking aout getting this but i want to play a game not watch a movie

chiefJohn11752d ago

Right, 15-30 min is took long it makes you wanna watch TV and stop gaming.

phoenixwing52d ago

you can skip the cutscenes if you want but i wouldn't recommend it. The story is too good to skip

“One thing to note though is heavy dialogue and cutscenes, some spanning over 15-30 minutes at a time.”

That’s the Yakuza series for you. I remember Yakuza 0’s ending being a series of cutscenes that lasted for more than an hour nonstop.

zacfoldor52d ago

It wasn’t a problem in P5R, I bet it’s fine here.

Fantastic game. Since August I've played: 0, Kiwami, Kiwami 2 and now Like a Dragon. I'd heard of the series but had never given it a shot. I can definitely say I've entered it into my all-time fav series with Resident Evil, Mass Effect and Metal Gear.

MrDead52d ago

I love this series. I purchased Yakuza 3 years ago on the PS3 I was bored wanted a new game and this was on offer, I don't like fighting games as I suck at them but I knew it was story driven so I gave it a chance... now I'm addicted to the Yakuza franchise, never played anything like them. They are well written, poorly written, clever, stupid, insane, emotional, roller coasters and I love em!

Yes same here, I've heard of this series for such a long time nut never played any and then I tried the yakuza zero, kwami, kiwami 2 on gamepass and just started playing one after another, even judgement on ps after that. Got the remaster collection on PS but never got around to playing it. I've downloaded yakuza dragon now and just waiting to finish Valhalla first. Looking forward to it. This series has jumped into one of my all time favorites. And i'm sure i would never have gone for it if it wasn't for game pass>

I'm glad people are finally finding out how great this series is. Out of all the launch games for these new consoles this has been my favorite. Personally, I think this is the best in the series, but there's just something about Ichiban that I gravitate more towards. He's a dork, he's funny, and he's the complete opposite of Kiryu, but I like that about him. The turn-based combat is more of my jam than the real-time beat 'em up combat.

Seriously, give this game a go if you're on the fence. It's just fun and unapologetic about the absurdity and it's all the better for it!

autobotdan52d ago

Awsome game i can't stop playing it

azricf52d ago

Fuck the Yakuza devs. Playstation literally made them and then they go and launch next-gen versions on everything BUT PS5? Yeah, most ps5 players will lose interest with the 5 month delay. If the series fails here on out, it was justified.

KeenBean34552d ago

If you actually care about the games you'll support them no matter what. Plus it looks like this newest entry (which is fantastic) is selling very well and could push it into the mainstream a bit more. Timed exclusivity sucks but both companies do it and it's something we have to live with. Besides the dev team probably have no say on what business deals SEGA make involving release and marketing.

azricf52d ago

When timed-exclusivity comes into play, the dev NEEDS to consider the platform it has been more popular on. The same thing happened with Rise of the Tomb Raider. That series had beginnings on Playstation 1(and a couple of others), and then they did the same shit by releasing it ONLY on Xbox One. What happened? RotTR on PS4 sold like shit, and shadow sold like shit on ALL. So yes, people remember these types of things. The only credit I can give the yakuza devs is that the ps4 version works on ps5, and they actually confirmed a ps5 version. Unlike the tomb raider devs.

MrNinosan52d ago

The PS4-version runs great on PS5.
I got it on both Series X and PS5 (PS4), but still play it on PS5, due to the difference being so small, and I’ve played all the other ones on Playstation.

I agree with you, but Sony should take some of the blame for this as well. They should have made a deal with Sega to lock the franchise (along with Judgement) as a Sony console exclusive IP indefinitely.

Yakuza shouldn't have ever been on an Xbox console. Series X timed exclusivity may have been the kick in the butt Sony needed to start looking at Yakuza/Judgement as Playstation system sellers....because they're THAT good IMO.

phoenixwing52d ago (Edited 52d ago )

well we can see you're more a fan of consoles than of the video games. I own the 0-5 on playstation but I didn't feel betrayed at all and honestly if it wasn't for extra fans showing up after the ps2 days they would have cancelled the whole thing. So saying sony somehow saved them is a little hyperbolic when they were struggling for so long.

Silly gameAr52d ago (Edited 52d ago )

"So saying sony somehow saved them is a little hyperbolic when they were struggling for so long"

How is it hyperbolic when the producer said as much himself? He said that Nintendo and Microsoft both rejected the Yakuza games, but Sony embraced the series. I think azricf has every right to be upset.

phoenixwing52d ago

couldn't they have made it on pc? and isn't it a sega game? So isn't the real say on whether it would have released up to sega? Sounds like PR at the time that fit the narrative of the console they released on. They could have also gone to pc.

georeo52d ago

People will still buy on ps5 no matter what. The series is still alive, but stronger then ever.

TheEspiownage52d ago

Play the PS4 version on PS5. The next-gen upgrade isn’t the jump you get from say Assassin’s Creed Valhalla or NBA 2K. Just a more stable frame rate and higher resolution on a game that doesn’t really push the next-gen hardware anyway.
