Stadia’s first year was a bumpy one, but its future is bright — so long as it can land the Cyberpunk 2077 launch.
"but its future is bright" Is it really? it was already failing, and with Xcloud on the way, PS Now and Geforce Now already existing, and Luna around the corner, I just don't see how Stadia stands any chance. Nobody interested in Cyberpunk 2077 is seriously going to want to play the game on Stadia. I'm not a fan of playing my games on a Stream anyway, but if I was, it's clear to see that all of Stadia's competition are better choices.
"Google Stadia Survived a Year" Yeah; limping and bleeding out, fearing inevitable death.
*reads title* Me: "Okay Google, what is 'Stadia'"? Google: "Oh hardy-frickin'-ha"
I completely forgot Stadia was a thing. Don't know a single person that uses it.
I have two really good friends who bought one at launch. I tried...so hard...to convince them not to get one. But they were adamant it was the next big thing. I need better friends.
Did it survive? I mean, Google can waste billions to keep it from collapsing but they are also notorious for killing projects overnight. Most people don't even know what Stadia is 🤷♂️
It survived a year without next generation consoles. Huge difference.
Not getting shut down yet doesn't mean it had any success.
I won't be surprised when Google pulls the plug on Stadia. The only person I know that uses it (founder addition) stopped and hasn't gone back since Xcloud Launched. I just don't see why anyone would pay for it.
Cyberpunk 2077 is not exclusive to Stadia, so why should people care about this service? And pay full price for games that: 1. are available on other platforms, with better pricing and/or no DRM, extra goodies, ownership and stuff; 2. might vanish after a year (or when Google will decide to shut it down). P. S.: And first year wasn't bumpy, it was just disastrous, let's not lie here. There wasn't anything good from Stadia, at all.
Burn it with fire
I've played on Stadia for free, and its actually pretty decent. Highlights include GYLT and Super Bomberman R Online. GYLT is basically like Resident Evil 2 remake crossed over with Stranger Things. A slightly less scary version of RE2 where you play as a young girl. Its really good, beat it four times! But its a Stadia exclusive (for now) and not many people know about it because of that. Super Bomberman R Online is a battle royal game, and I thought it'd be stupid, but after playing one match, I loved it! I got first place once, and then right after my free Stadia subscription ended, but it was a good time while I had it. The biggest issue about Stadia is not being able to own your games, and data caps. I only have 1 terabyte of data a month from COMCAST, so playing a massive RPG like Cyberpunk would drain 80% or more of my data per month.
