For newcomers, Demon’s Souls will be the first exploration into the duality of despair and triumph, and hopefully go on to become a starting point for new Souls fans. For veterans, it’s a homage to an experiment that kicked off a fantastic genre. Either way, it’s wonderful that the nascent ethers from the original classic have coalesced and given us this delightful treat.

I don’t care if people hate me, because I can’t please everyone, and I know this and don’t try.
However, my hope is people will at least respect that I have a different view on the game than they did (if they themselves don’t/didn’t like it) and can express it, respectfully, if they wish to address that. Being downvoted, I could careless, difference of opinions, I’m all for, and being hated on, I don’t care, I know it’ll happen, but it’s just sad to see people overreact and not simply try to understand that myself or someone else love the game, unlike them is all. Simple conversation can be eye opening for both sides, I think, when both are willing to listen to understand rather than listen to react like so many seem to do.

I'm obssessed with Demon's Souls, but YES. Last Of Us 2 is my game of the year too. It's was truly exceptional.

Same. I love demon souls. But this year goty is lou2 for me. Ghost of tsushima was great, ff7 remake was phenomenal. Persona 5 royal best jrpg in ages. But still goty is last of us 2 for this year.

@ Synth, well I'm a veteran of the Souls games including Demon's Souls so the difficulty is relatively easy, but it's super super fun. I can barely put the game down. It's just so good.

After playing bloodborne and sekiro and demons and dark, once you learn them you have levelled up your gaming skills permanently. They become easy. In was shocked going back to dark souls after sekiro. It's so easy now. Demons soul i finished before, can't imagine it'll be harder than dark again as i originally found dark harder.

Fyi. The difficulty.is not why the games are fun. Being skilled at their excellently balance and challenging combat is the fun. Akong wjth combat and level design.

Just remember, bloodborbe took the diffumiculty up a notch for veterans. So did sekiro in it's own way. Souls is slow paced compared

Damn, besides GodFall (with mixed reviews but i'd say it's good that too), it's a solid launch line up. The games are getting from 8, when it's low, to 9+!
People can call them all they want, like "just a remake", "just a DLC", "it's on PS4 too" and whatever... but they're getting a very warm welcome from the reviewers! The PS5 is shining since the beginning :D

GodFall is good too if you like looter shooters and hack and slash (similar to Warframe) but it's getting lower scores because it definitely feels like a launch game, whereas a lot of these other games (especially the PS exclusives) just feel like par for the course as far as just being all-around high-quality games.

I'd give it a 7.5, and if you'e a fan of that genre, gameplay first kind of guy/girl, and don't mind a basic / meh story, then you can add a point to that as the combat and skill trees are great and what keeps you playing.

That being said wait a few months if you can as it'll probably be dropping in price before any of the other games.

On the same token, I wonder if you actually played the original??? The original score had a minimalist charm, spare instrumentation and am ambient quality that added to the atmosphere of sense of isolation. Less is more sometimes. The original sound effects were quirky, now some are just unnecessarily loud. It's cool that it's doing something different and that people seem to like that, but it's just doesn't feel like something From would do IMO. I guess I just wish there were options for original score and sound effects in the menu, since the option for classic filter and camera is there. The NPC animations are another thing, corny AF. The mouth animations in particular. I love that From never bothered with NPC animations in the souls games, and 'NPC acting'. It's more often than not terrible, and breaks the feeling of immersion.

Sound effects better this time. Music better in old one. More..gothic and dark, more intense. Music wise it's similar to treatment ffx hd got. Music is better but also worse. Maybe I'm nostalgic..

Thinking about it. Original has a dark and demonic imposing feeling.new one is more epic high fantasy

Now that I think about it, the sound effects for magic were all pretty similar throughout demons souls, dark souls, and bloodborne. I dont know why bluepoint changed it. Also, the singing in the prison of Latria, the bell chime of the mindflayer, it's all different and unremarkable. I loved the sound in the original, and some of the most memorable moments for me are just gone. I would said visuals, gameplay, combat animations, qol updates are all excellent but the kind of liberties they took with sound and music take away from the original experience. Still a great game, and probably the best launch title since Mario 64 for me, but I feel a bit sad for the people that never got to play the original. It would've been a 9-10 for me but is more like an 8 because of these things.

Anybody saying this is a remaster is either a xbox hater because they cant play it or mad because they cant afford or couldn't secure themselves a ps5. I have it and I can tell you after platinum ps3 demon souls I can see and tell they change alot of the environments and alot of animations so no it's not a remaster. You can def tell they put alot of work into the game. So stuff is the same but other areas look and feel different then the original. The combat is pretty much the same which is good among other great things they did.
