Here is how same games look on Xbox One X and Xbox Series S

ExBee you'd be making a huge mistake. There are abilities in the RDNA 2 architecture that the Scorpion engine doesn't have. Don't make the mistake of thinking launch games tell the whole story. Machine learning, variable rate shading and several other features make the Series S far better than the One X.

I expected it for sure to be this way. Series S is for the casual or budget gamer's. I'm happy i have a Xbox one X because i can't afford to upgrade right now. Being unsure if everything will get shut down again. I can't splurg

I don't know why they are comparing the high end console last gen with the low end console of this gen.

Apples-to-Apples would be XBO S compared with XSS.

I could be wrong, but I think the One X was still $100 more than the Series S while it was still being manufactured.
Not only that, but if we ignore resolution, the Series S is capable of many things that the One X isn't, like much faster loading times, quick resume, ray tracing, and the ability to play games that aren't going to be cross-gen in the future. The One X had more memory, and a beefier GPU I think, but its CPU pales in comparison to new-gen hardware.

Sure with some deals and such you might get luck enough to find one for $300 (Series S MSRP) and for the majority of the last year or so I saw it going for ~$400. But those were exceptional cases and the same will apply to the Series S once we start seeing deals featuring it.

It supports fast SSD, more memory, a faster CPU, and modern GPU functionality at 1440p...

The S is better in many ways. Sony fanboys with a need to drag Microsoft down have either no integrity or idea what they're talking about. If you want to understand the difference ho to the forums on beyond 3d or someplace where developers post. Don't listen to sheep or uneducated fanboys. These are older back compat games new games like creed valhalla look and run mint. What the headline doesn't say is the back compat titles are the one S versions and not enhanced

Games in this articles are run with BC on Serie S.
AC Valhalla will run the next gen version (toned down for Serie S), not through BC.

And at the opposite, older games should benefit the most from BC on a new machine.

It looks like a tiny A/C unit you see on the roofs of downtown office buildings or a speaker. IMO, it has little aesthetic appeal.

Although looks are less relevant when compared the low ram and GPU output that the S generates when compared to the actual next gen consoles.

Even if I despise the Serie S, I was expecting it to be the perfect BC console for MS fans.
But it is not the case, as it does not run the enhanced versions of the game that One X was able to do.

I feel genuinely dumb here, as lower spec GPU on Serie S vs One X should have rang the bell already.

It's definitely for a casual market. It's cheap, and probably going to be targeted towards people that aren't planning on upgrading past their 1080p displays anytime soon either. You figure, in 2.5-3 years the price will probably drop to $199.

Yes I would. In fact, I believe that super spec gaming rigs are never really utilized to their fullest potential due to the popularity of the lower spec consoles. As such, graphics cards such as the RTX 3090 are unfortunately super-adequate for our current gaming market.

Damn, normally when I see articles like this it takes me a while to find the difference. In this situation I found the difference fast and it was blatantly obvious. How the hell does the Xbox One X beat out the newer Series S in the graphics department? The Series S will sell at first until the average consumer realizes these issues and then no one will buy them. Microsoft should have gone the same way that Sony did and just release a $399 box with no disc drive.

It beats it in the resolution department concerning Xbox One games, that's about it. Series S still has a much faster CPU, newer GPU, ray-tracing abilities, SSD. Also, the Series S is cheaper than the One X ever was while being manufactured. Not that I would get one over the Series X, but people are saying it's worse than a last gen box, when it's really not. The One X is also never going to run games that are exclusively for next-gen, unless MS plans to stay cross-gen for years.

You will not notice too much difference if all you use to compare are old-gen games running through BC. The quality of the game is set with old-gen standards and the improvements through BC are little and subtle.

I believe that the difference will be much greater through the course of this new generation. Not only resolution as promise, but in almost quality settings.

XSS is a marketing product created by Microsoft to trigger some initial sales, that ultimately will hurt Xbox ecosystem quality in the long run. Given that the prices for games, services and accessories are all the same, investing on a XSS is almost a nonsense. XSX is actually affordable and its the only Xbox investment that make sense for the next 5-7 years. Even if you don't have a 4K TV, XSX games will render much more beautiful on your 1080p or 1440p screen.
