MonsterVine: "Uppers is a wonderfully goofy beat-em-up brawler that combines enjoyable mechanics with a suitably silly anime story to strong results. It’s a bit rough visually, but fans of shonen anime especially will find a lot to love here."
TSA writes: "If you look into the current work of Japanese game developer Kenichiro Takaki you’ll see some impressive projects. Joining CyGames in 2019, Takaki has served as an advisor on Granblue Fantasy Versus and upcoming action-adventure Granblue Fantasy: Relink, alongside a producer credit on another seemingly major upcoming adventure game titled Project Awakening. Before becoming such a prestigious talent at CyGames, though, Takaki was responsible for a totally unrelated series over at Marvelous and Honey Parade Games – Senran Kagura. The source of the quote “Tits are life, ass is hometown.” has worked on a wide breadth of Senran Kagura spinoffs and original games during his time at Marvelous, but they all circled back to the same sort of hyper-sexualized, pervy adventure that some will love and others will despite."
Today Xseed Games and Marvelous Entertainment finally released their brawler Uppers in the west for PC via Steam.
So pissed that Sony wanted to censor it so the publisher just canned the PS4 version. Oh, but Cyberounk won’t be censored. Makes sense.
WTMG's Leo Faria: "In short, Uppers could have been a fairly decent brawler if it wasn’t for its borderline idiotic creeper factor. It does feature a nice art style and a really good combat system, but they just had to shove in a ton of gratuitous and disturbing content that does nothing to improve the overall experience. It’s just one of those unnecessary games that practically force you to play it with your room door’s closed and windows shut. Because let’s face it, you really don’t want to be seen motorboating a Vita-era anime girl whose breasts jiggle more than a waterbed."
