CD Projekt Red has commented on the status of Cyberpunk 2077 development for PS4 and Xbox One, calling it a next-generation game.
I think I read initially on DSOGaming, Edit: https://www.dsogaming.com/n... “This situation is different compared to previous changes to the deadline. The game for PC is ready and plays well on next-gen consoles and the company is finalizing the process concerning current-gen consoles.” The main reason behind this latest delay is due to the game’s current-gen version.
Yeah, that's great, but Cyberpunk was always planned for the current gen, so nothing has changed. It's not like halfway through development the decision was made to also bring it to ps4 and xbox one. Development for those consoles was always going to be hellishly difficult. But the numbers of gamers who own those systems make them a necessity for earning profits. I'm patient, I can wait. I'm waiting to play Cyberpunk and will do so when the fully optimized for ps5 and series x version is available.
I'm sure a game of this scope, with next gen in mind, that the base systems, at least, were hard to design around. I'm playing on PC either way.
Yep. Same here. Glad to see the PC version is ready to go. Wish they would go ahead and let us have it instead of making us wait for console.
Same; but I'm also deep into Disco Elysium and Greedfall, so I can accept it being pushed off for a little longer.
True....not like there is a shortage of games. I'm diving into Watch Dogs: Legion today with Ubisoft+. So the delay may allow me to fit in AC: Valhalla in a month's time and save some cash. I'd push both of those back for Cyberpunk 2077 without hesitation. I really enjoyed Greedfall. Felt like a Bioware game
Pretty much. I bought Greedfall at launch, but never finished it. It does feel like an early 2000s Bioware release, which is a good thing in my taste. Kind of like a combination of the mechanics/design of both Jade Empire meets Kotor, and dipped into a Victorian aesthetic. I've been a fan of Spiders, but this is easily their best game by a good margin.
Comment back if you remember and let me know what you think of legions, on the fence of getting it now that this shit is delayed again.
Just hopping in to join the Greedfall praise. Despite its lack of polish in some areas, it was such a fun experience. The story kept me interested even if it is a bit predictable, but the combat was just so satisfying. Hoping Spider continues to grow. I'm planning on going with Valhalla next too. Then I'll probably buy up a bunch of deals on Black Friday and Steam Winter sale to add to the backlog. So I'm cool waiting for a good while on 2077. I'm torn on when to upgrade my PC and when to upgrade consoles anyway. So I might just ride out the craziness for a while, and hopefully have a fully patched and optimized 2077 waiting for me next year.
I think many already thought this would struggle on current gen anyway, so not surprised. Was going to wait to buy it until I got a PS5 anyway.
Everyone I know who's buying this game either wants to play it on PC or next-gen consoles. Absolutely everyone. I'll be playing it on PS5.
Been as the current gen version gets a free upgrade to the PS5 version I'm fine with buying the PS4 version and then replaying the game once I get a PS5. If the best version of most games bothered me I'd be gaming on PC long before now.
I'll just wait for the PS5 version. Maybe by then there will be tons of new content anyway or free DLC
Same. I cancelled my PS4 version last week on Amazon. Which broke my heart because it was only $49.00. But, I'd rather pay more and not have to worry about playing an inferior version first, then downloading a PS5 patch.
Didn't they say it would be a free upgrade? It would be cheaper to buy it for $50 now and wait for them to release the next gen update instead of paying $70 later.
You're not getting it. I wouldnt be able to wait. If I bought the PS4 version, I was playing that bad boy. Now, I won't .
How the hell CD Project are getting this to run at all on base PS4, let alone the embarassing base Xbox, is beyond me. Give it up already. Make it next gen only!
Something tells me CDPR wouldn't exactly want to discard a market of 170 million potential customers, in favor of a fraction of that, just to push a bit more fidelity in their game.
Of course, I agree. It was just a throw away comment based on my own wishes. No way they are going to disregard so many potential purchases.
I mean, I get what you're saying b/c it would inevitably sell more next-gen consoles over time (no doubt), BUT... they be leaving all others out in the cold who have current-gen consoles and aren't ready to take the leap/investment for various reasons. Although, I've gotta say how surprised I have been with the fidelity they have been able to squeeze out of say the PS4 hardware with examples like God of War, TLoU2, FFVII Remake, and Ghosts of Tsushima to name a few recent and astoundingly gorgeous titles. So yeah, they may not be able to get much more than 30fps, but I think that's the balance to achieve some of the graphical fidelity.
What a stupid comment. Most folk will have current gen consoles and that's why this game is current gen too.
Loss of too many potential sales with the install base of PS4/Xbox One. That's why most games are going to be cross-gen for a couple of years. No way to recoup development and marketing costs and make a decent profit otherwise, until PS5 and Series X hit high sales marks.
i ordered my ps5 today and i feel im borned again .games of this gen are so orgasmic
I'd imagine most will play it on ps4 xbox one and pc. I hope it's well made for current gen consoles I used to own witcher 3 on the pro it was a solid game so no doubt ps4 and xbox one will have great games. Il be personally skipping this for now but might be goty nomination at least
I think this stems from CDPR being perfectionists. They could dumb down the game greatly on current-gen consoles and call it a day, however, they want everyone to get the same experience.
This. And they have all the capability to deliver on this promise. They know the game will still sell like hot cakes regardless of any major/minor delays. People are fickle and easily forgive/forget when it ultimately comes down to it so anyone that is sitting there saying they won't buy the game now b/c of this latest delay is all talk... they will at some point b/c they won't be able to stand the hype and the fact that all their friends are enjoying the game while they sulk about something that no longer matters.
But I thought it would have been as easy as configuring a slider down for making games work on curren-gen hardware?
They had issues with the Xbox One version the last I heard. Perhaps that needs more polish.
I'm not getting a ps5 at release because of short stockage, so PS4 Pro is my only option. Glad they are doing everything they can to make the game great for the consoles they were meant to be on from the start.
Man I’m glad I’m waiting to play this on ps5 . I was hoping to get it day one on 19th with ps5. I’m just going to hold out now for the full patch on next gen.
Garbage last gen conslows made nothing but money on that Ancient Design like Fkin Cell phones have more processing power now a days 💩💩💩 28169;💩💩
Should have kept it strictly next gen if that's the case. But noooo gotta cash in on the current userbase
Should have never been a current gen game to begin with. Likely gimped due to hardware limitations of the original consoles.
I have a feeling current gen versions are going to run like SHIT. Or it will be majorly cut back just so they can get this game working on current gen.
But I thought everything could scale?
Don't bute off more than you can chew. Should have been a solely next gen game.
Considering how long ago development started, there's no way they could ignore the potential sales of the install bases of current gen consoles. It's gonna be years before next-gen catches up to that. Why do you think BC and cross-gen titles have been so heavily focused on? It gives another reason for people to upgrade. I can guarantee many people have the mindset of "Well, these consoles are expensive, sold out, and there are very few games at the moment, so I'll stick to the giant backlog of games I can already play on my PS4/Xbox." This is probably going to be one of the longest transitional periods we've ever seen between gens. Without a shift in the philosophies of game design itself, we've kind of reached a peak in traditional gaming. What we're getting so far, instead of new experiences, is higher resolution, better frame-rates and ray-tracing. You could probably scale back any next-gen game at the moment to run on current hardware.
PC all the way, might as well play on the top platform :D But if the PC version was ready before the consoles they should have just released the PC version.
