Watch Dogs Legion will Run at 4K 30FPS on XSX and PS5, Ray Tracing Support Confirmed

Both next-gen consoles will run Watch Dogs Legion at 4K 30FPS

Jin_Sakai1679d ago (Edited 1679d ago )

Give us a 60fps option without Ray Tracing!

Cernunnos1679d ago

Just because it runs 30fps with RT doesn't mean it automatically runs at 60 if they disable RT. Other things can be bottlenecking it to a lower framerate than just the RT effects.

GameZenith1679d ago

Well give us the option to play at 1080p then.

It is sad that even with next gen consoles, the fight for 60fps continues.

Cernunnos1679d ago (Edited 1679d ago )

Their frame rate could be limited due to CPU usage, or memory bandwith for example, and then lowering resolution wouldn't make a difference.

With that said, just because 4k/30 is confirmed, that doesn't mean that there won't be a performance mode setting.

neutralgamer19921679d ago

Cernunnos

I mean these consoles are more like PC's now so why can't we the gamers given the option to pick performance over graphics? I mean some may take 60FPS at 1440P

I just want that option for gamers to pick instead of one setting fit all kind of thing

SamTheGamer1679d ago

But world’s most powerful console with 12 TFlops can run at 60 fps. Right?

Spartacus101678d ago

@ SamTheGamer
Why would you assume that?
Even PC GPUs which cost more than an entire PS5 or XSX wont run every next-gen game at 4k 60fps.
I think in the long run after we're passed the stage of being sold upgraded current-gen games as next-gen games, 4k/30 will be standard for most 3rd party developers (unless its a genre like racing or an arcade style game) on consoles but they will look smoother than the current gen and the previous gen where 30fps actually meant 20 to 30fps on a lot of AAA games so its still an improvement.

Dee_911678d ago

@GameZenith
if you want 60 fps you can throw another $500 for a gaming pc.
youre not limited to consoles

Computersaysno1678d ago

"Even PC GPUs which cost more than an entire PS5 or XSX wont run every next-gen game at 4k 60fps."

Yeah, they will. Because on PC you can choose individual settings to get the balance you prefer, and not the one the developer imposes on you.

That's why people like PC gaming. Ultimate control, Ultimate choice.

The_Blue1678d ago

Right. I also like the pretentious demand like ubisoft will agree

Bobertt1678d ago

While that can be true benchmarks for the rtx 3080 show a 40-50% decrease in fps at 4k with Ray tracing turned on. With ray tracing and upscaling on its more like a 25-35% decrease but we don't know how good the upscaling is on consoles. At 4k your less likely to have a cpu bottleneck, and being this early into the console i can't imagine they would be bottlenecking that would mean Sony and Microsoft both dropped the ball on their designs. Raytracing might not get you all the way to 60 turned off but it definitely would make a big difference. Especially since many of the ray tracing implementations i've seen don't add enough to a game to warrant the performance hit.

TakeTori1678d ago

"Other things can be bottlenecking it to a lower framerate..."

Yes. The resolution. Put it in 1440p or 1080p and turn off ray tracing, and 60fps is more than possible. There will be a performance mode for this game, and if not, I hope gamers will complain. It's time that console gamers stop accepting "cinematic framerates".

@jin

you have to also figure out if the game was made with ray tracing only. they may not have another.... oh wait a minute it's releasing on last gen consoles so it should probably have an option to turn it off, my bad

edit: all the people saying it won't magically work by turning off ray tracing is also not admitting that ray tracing affects frame rates for the most part or at least i've never seen a game where it doesn't

TheOptimist1678d ago

Ubisoft knows jack shit about optimization.

High end CPUs are required to run their shitty games at 60fps. So I dont think GPU will be the limiting factor.

As long as games strive to push the limits of hardware 30fps will always be the standard. Even on my PC if it's a game I don't feel the need to use a mouse in I have no problem cranking the graphics options and locking 30fps with a controller.

MadLad1679d ago (Edited 1679d ago )

I've found my nice minimum is 42fps. It still feels pretty smooth. Feels a lot better than 30, and a good spot if you're not getting a solid 60. My PC is no slouch, but it doesn't hit a straight 60 on most taxing games when cranked up. If I don't manage even that 42, I'm more than happy to drop a couple settings.

I only do 30fps when that's literally my only option - so the odd locked PC game, or applicable console exclusives.

Father__Merrin1678d ago

A lot feel 42 is just about right but I settled as 45 my last playthrough of creed origins there's no way you can constant 60 on that game so a 45fps lock in rivia tuner made it very playable for me, You get used to it after a while

obz1678d ago

Especially for open world games. People who know nothing about game development really do need to shut up and just play the game.

GaboonViper1679d ago

But Timdog said XSX will play games 4K60 without breaking a sweat😂, on topic though i would prefer 1440P upscaled and a 60 FPS mode, both consoles should go for that and have more overhead for effects and such.

Ausbo1679d ago

It’s easy to say just drop the resolution and up the frames, but there may be other variables in play. Maybe it’s the animations or maybe they are bottlenecked on the CPU because of the Amount of Playable characters and AI required. Who knows.

Maybe it’s not optimized great.

jukins1679d ago

I'd honestly be surprised if this didn't have a fps.

blackblades1679d ago

Lol timdog and the xdealer crew is a joke.

IRetrouk1679d ago

Entertaining though lol

Sgt_Slaughter1678d ago

I wouldn't use this game as the smoking gun to disprove that. It's Ubisoft, they're far from the kings of optimization and getting everything they can out of hardware.

JEECE1679d ago

Ugh. Cutting the framerate in half for slightly better lighting effects. I have a feeling that's going to be an annoying trend this generation.

goldwyncq1679d ago

Ray tracing isn’t “slightly better lighting effects”. Wanna see the difference, try comparing the console versions of Cyberpunk 2077 to the PC version capable of ray tracing and the difference will be night and day.

JEECE1679d ago

Thanks, I've seen plenty of comparisons (using PC games with ray tracing on and off, because comparing console to PC is stupid), and except for minecraft, they all prove my point rather than refute it. Massive framerate hit for a moderate improvement.

crazyCoconuts1679d ago

30 FPS for maxed out graphics isn't a new thing. Don't know why folks thought that was going away

JEECE1679d ago

I didn't actually believe it would, I'm just going to criticize it anyway. Also, the CPUs aren't trash this time around, so if there was going to be a gen where 60 could become the norm, this is it.

Sirk7x1678d ago

Yup, and if any less was acceptable, they'd push for that too lol.

Pandamobile1679d ago

Games that are heavy on the CPU don't just magically run at double the frame rate if you drop the resolution or graphics quality - especially games that have a lot of systems at play. Dense urban environments with several dozen civilians, combat AI and vehicles potentially on screen at once means that the CPU is going to have a lot to contend with.

Outside_ofthe_Box1679d ago

A lot of people don't understand this lol.

They think resolution or RT is the only thing holding back frames.

JEECE1679d ago

Yes, but consoles finally have decent CPUs, as opposed to last gen.

amazinglover1679d ago

This is the recommended PC specs for 4K while consoles can do more with less no way either consoles CPU is within spitting distance of a 9700k. So yes the CPU are leagues better there still not top of the line better which this game is asking for at 4K.

CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K 3.6 GHz, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or GeForce RTX 3080
Video memory: 10GB
RAM: 16GB (Dual-channel setup)
Hard Disk Space: 45GB (+20 GB HD Texture Pack)
OS: Windows 10 (64 bit only) (For optimal experience use DX12, also compatible with “DX11”)

Giblet_Head1679d ago (Edited 1679d ago )

They can do more with less because they're nowhere near maxing games out when compared to recommended settings on PC. Thermal stability is carefully taken into consideration when it comes to consoles, always has been. Due to their compact nature it's a limiting factor when stability becomes prioritized over performance.

Watch Dogs Legion Receives Mysterious New Update After Ending Support Two Years Ago

Over two years later, Watch Dogs Legion has gotten a surprise update on the day of The Game Awards.

northpaws532d ago

New ads? I kid I kid.

I do appreciate Ubisoft's keep making single player games, but hope they can learn from some of the best open world games in the industry and evolve, I don't really like their recent games, but I don't want them to go away either.

Profchaos531d ago

I hope they learn from wd legion don't build a fanbase then use that fanbase as guinea pigs to test out a new idea on a sequel.

Who am I kidding it's ubi the whole franchise has probably been put on ice because of this failed experiment

Hypnofear531d ago

Which is a shame because Watch Dogs 2 was actually really good!

Ironmike531d ago

If they just left with the Kames bond like char ter in the beginning I'd loved it

The entire WatchDogs series is 87% off and it's not even Black Friday

Holy crap, R&C Rift Apart is a huge score for those who haven't played it! It was so good.

just_looken744d ago

i agree though I don't have a ps5 but i will activate this when the prices get out of apple range.

outsider1624744d ago

Well lets hope its soon, because you never know when the game will leave psplus.

DivineHand125743d ago

I don't think it is fair to compare the PS5 to apple prices since an iphone hasn't been at $499 since the original iphone launched.

One thing I can say at your benefit though is that in gaming then longer you wait to buy, the better the deal, though if you wait too long your backlog will get out of control.

LordoftheCritics743d ago

Rift Apart is the best chill game I've played this gen.

System seller on PS Plus is a huge win.

roadkillers743d ago

I think you can redeem over your phone, no? When you get a PS5 you will have games.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 743d ago
MasterChief3624744d ago

A huge score for those of us that didn't just buy it literally one day ago and it's on the way now :'(
But I guess it's good to own it, as well! And I don't think I want to get PlayStation Plus right now, so it's not a huge loss. But it is still a little saddening.

I got my PS5 today, actually! Been wanting to play Rift Apart for so long. And I played Astro's Playroom at a friend's house, and that was when I was like, "I NEED THIS." Such a fun little game with so many wonderful references to Playstation stuff!

Anyways.

lukasmain744d ago

You could just re-sell your copy that is coming in the mail. But it's up to you. Rift Apart is so damn good. It blew my mind how good it looks and plays.

Dirty_Lemons743d ago (Edited 743d ago )

I hope you love it, dude. Nothing beats a shiny new console, and the PS5 is 👌 May I recommend Returnal, challenging but not Soulsborne-level challenging, and extremely good making use of those new haptics you're going to be playing around with.

Tapani743d ago

Hey I'm a relatively new PS5 owner here, but how does this new PS Plus system work? So if I go in at the Premium level for a month, it would mean I can play Horizon 2 and Ratchet & Clank just like that, right?

closed_account743d ago

Yea, you don't even need to sub Premium if those are the 2 games you're after, they're included on PS Plus Extra.

Premium just adds the legacy library of PS1, PS2, PS3 titles that are on the service.

Played and platinumed Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart at launch. Loved it so much. 9/10

Am I going to download and play Bus Simulator 21? You bet :-D

lukasmain744d ago

Was just thinking I wish Bus Simulator was PSVR 2 compatible. Imagine looking over your shoulder at the passengers you pick up? Haha

*turns head around while driving*

"Shut the Fk up back there!!!! You want me to crash the bus?!?!?!?!!"

Davros69744d ago

haha, you sound like an Aussie

MrNinosan744d ago

Have to download it as well. Is it compatible with wheel?

lukasmain744d ago

Yeah apparently it's compatible with a fair few wheels. Game has been out a while.

just_looken744d ago

Yeah the vr experience on playstation continues to be crap compared to pc sadly.

Bus sim 21 vr on pc
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

And do do that well its on pc duh crap $700 console should do vr on alot more than select titles

lukasmain744d ago

PS VR2 is actually really awesome man. I have one. It's only new, so maybe I will wait for Bus Simulator 21 to get a VR update then. Judging by that video, the game looks fun in VR

just_looken744d ago

I doubt it will look at psvr 1

Dandalandan117744d ago

Will definitely download Bus Simulator as well.
My son will surely have a blast with it.

crazyCoconuts744d ago

For a lot cheaper than the other guys even

102 games aww that's cute 🤭

Petebloodyonion744d ago

Well technically the best deal remains by far EPIC games free offering since well it's free but aside that it's a hell of deal :)

andy85744d ago

Its funny, a few months ago this would have got so many down votes but it probably is now, the Extra/Deluxe service is flourishing. Even a day one game this month is added

andy85744d ago

@phillyDonJawn that's games added, not total. PS sub has more games on it than Gamepass but keep reaching 😂

Seriously didn’t even realise how good the PS offering was.

I’m on the highest tier but the only things I gravitate toward are the two monthly games.

It was only recently that I found how to properly browse the PS+ section on the dashboard and there’s a ridiculous amount of high quality content on there.

I own a good amount of them either physical or digital but still a great selection.

Crows90744d ago (Edited 744d ago )

Yup. Ps extra is cheaper than gamepass ultimate as well...until those quality Xbox 1st party start actually kicking in ps+ is the most affordable and highest quality service.

I'll be trying out legion and humanity for sure.

MasterChief3624744d ago

So how does it work? Are these all available now? Or is it a rotation system? I literally only got my PS5 today and am a bit of a newb of this console generation.

lukasmain744d ago (Edited 744d ago )

These are all available right now I'm pretty sure. But I will post the actual lists of games. You will know in advance if anything was to be taken off this list too. A good time in advance.

PS Plus Essential (lowest price) - is the normal PS Plus and you get games every month. Here are the games for this month...
https://www.pushsquare.com/...

PS Plus Extra (mid price) - Is same as essential, BUT has all these extra games from this list, except for the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games, (there aren't that many). More releasing every month. Here is all the games from PS Plus Extra
https://www.pushsquare.com/...

PS Plus Premium - same as essential and extra. But has all the PS1 and PS2 and PS3 and PSP games. More games releasing every month. Here is the list of games from this one...
https://www.pushsquare.com/...

Glad you got a PS5. It's a good investment. So much to play and so much to come. Have fun man

Ps5conehead744d ago

These are available may 16th

meanmallard744d ago

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Is fantastic, I can't recommend it highly enough.

Even though you have never heard of it it went on to sell well over a million copies.

meanmallard744d ago

If even one person reads this and plays it and has half as much fun as I did I'll be super happy.
