"A continuation rather than an evolution"

So basically it's just a faster xbone... unless you had a xbone x and buy a series s then it's an xbone but slower...

bouzebbal1439d ago

Xbox have no idea.. They make a hardware that'll be obsolete in every way in a year.. Nothing futureproof..

GamerRN1439d ago

@bouzebbal

Wait, how is Xbox obsolete in a year, and PlayStation isn't? Please explain this to me how the more advanced, more powerful system is obsolete faster than the less advanced weaker system...

bouzebbal1439d ago

GamerRN

First of all, the power is something that needs to be proven.. PS4 exclusive wipe the floor technically with every x1x game..
What we saw of PS5 destroys everything we saw on xsx..
PS5 has VR, a high tech controller that'll allow you to enjoy the games differently... and this is futureproof..
Running after power ONLY never paid off.

crazyCoconuts1439d ago

@GamerRN maybe you mean irrelevant vs. obsolete? XSX will still have the power needed to run next gen games for as long as PS5 will. Why someone would purchase XSX vs. PS5 and will enough people purchase XSX to make it a true competitor to PS5? That's the relevance question.
XSS I feel will truly be obsolete in a year - that's going to die an ugly death

That's what almost all consoles have been... evolution instead of revolution. Only a few times has there been a revolutionary change in gaming. The shift from 2D to 3D probably being the biggest but other notable entries include creating interchangeable cartridges (which later gave way to optical media). And of course online capabilities revolutionized the way we play with others no matter where they are.

Everything else is evolutionary, continuing on from the strengths of the previous iterations.

purple1011439d ago

I agree. Except for Sony's new controller will actually move gameplay forward.

With what they talked about.. feeling the brake pressure in a racing game.

Feeling the road surfaces change in your hands.

Pulling a crossbow/bow and arrow back will get harder to press the more it's pulled.

Imroved Speaker and mic in the controller. (Can he used to dictate messages in ps app. Confirmed today.)

These sort of features.

sorry to prattle on as I am a PlayStation facts that my brother is an Xbox fan and we both play each others stuff. So I have a fair view on the Sony Vs ms saga.

nickanasty2061439d ago

Have to agree with you here. To purples comments below, we won't know how the Dual Sense will actually perform until we get our hands on it, to know whether or not its a game changer or a gimmick that devs will stop using or discontinue using over time. I am hoping the tension actually works like explained, but we can't say its revolutionary until we actually try it.

XabiDaChosenOne1439d ago

The SSD is a revolution, it changes the dynamics of level design.

S2Killinit1439d ago (Edited 1439d ago )

Except for VR, and the dualsense, possibly the Tempest, and the SSD...

Honestly, I started that sentence with only VR in mind. I really think that these days people cant tell a revolutionary advancements even if its happening right in front of them because of how fast everything moves nowadays.

343_Guilty_Spark1439d ago

Devs aren't going to use that controller. They didn't even bother with the DS4.

Sony 1st parties will...

PS5 is the only premium console releasing this year. Wifi 6, usb c, a unique cooling system, exceptional controller and what looks like a game changing UI.

So much effort has gone into every minute detail.

Let’s also not forget that ssd which is unlike anything else on the market

darthv721439d ago

Flash storage is not new. Every Ipad and Surface has flash storage but the real benefit is the CPU that handles the incoming and outgoing data. That is separate to the SSD and is what really makes things revolutionary in terms of data management. It compresses and decompresses on the fly and gets the data to/from memory. The SSD is really just the warehouse for holding the goods. The forklift/driver (IO CPU) is the one who moves it all around in a speedy manner.

S2Killinit1439d ago (Edited 1439d ago )

@Darth
PS5’s SSD is not a normal SSD, it has a customized compartment that allows it to do things better than an equivalent SSD. This detail was there when devs were first talking about it but it got lost amongst the general praise for the use of SSDs in consoles. At least thats what the devs were saying. They went as far as saying it will revolutionize SSDs in general.

As to your forklift example, what if the warehouse was designed in a way that allowed the forklift to grab items at a fraction of the time? Eh? Eh? See what I did there? 😎

@darthv72

Based on your comment, you have zero understanding about how the SSDs function. It is not merely NAND flash storage that you see in tablets or even other SSDs on the market for that matter.

First of all you are incorrect in stating the CPU fetches the data from the NAND flash and compresses/decompressed it. The CPU requests the data from the flash controller, which in turn gets the data from the NAND flash (by the time the CPU gets data it is already decompressed BTW), passes it to the CPU, then the CPU translates it to the GPU (for example). Don’t get me wrong, the CPU is important, but you are mistaking it’s functions.

Second, technically the SSD is just a “warehouse for holding the goods”, as you put it. However, there are significant differences between the “forklift”, as you put it, of the PS5 SSD and the XSX SSD. SSDs lose anywhere between 50%-80% of their advertised speeds (due to bottlenecks within the process of getting data from the SSD), but Sony was able to eliminate these bottlenecks. What that means is that while the XSX SSD will most likely see speeds lower than the advertised 2.4 GB/s (raw), the PS5 SSD can perform at its advertised 5.5 GB/s (raw). Also the PS5 SSD has 12 channels vs. the XSX SSD having 8 channels. More speed and more bandwidth. How does this translate to games? Well, since data can be transferred from the SSD almost instantly there is little need to store that data in system RAM. That means less of the RAM is idle (just storing data that may or may not be used), and more RAM is active (actually being used for game purposes). The SSD in the PS5 is not just about how fast it can load things, but because it can move so much data, so quickly and efficiently, that it opens new doors for game design and choices (for example Ratchet & Clank). Not all SSDs are created equal, and the PS5 SSD is unlike any SSD on the market currently (obviously that will change in the future).

Futureshark1439d ago

It's a $500 retro gaming machine!!

Probably the best one if that's what you are after, eh Xbox fans!

GamerRN1439d ago

And the PS5 is just a faster PS4 by your logic

Minute Man 7211439d ago

PS5 and that "Dynamic" 4K might as well call it PS Pro 2

30-35 mins to install a game and that doesn’t include a patch, same as last gen he said . That’s disappointing

darthv721439d ago

There will always be limitations based on the source of what is being installed. Either from disc or from the web. But after its installed is where the benefits kick in.

Fishy Fingers1439d ago

Exactly, the install speed is limited by the BR read speed. You cant write data faster than its read.... :/

Nintendo Accused of 'Bullying' in Weak Patent Dispute Over Palworld

The article discusses a claim by an intellectual property (IP) expert that Nintendo likely does not hold patents strong enough to prevent the game developer Pocketpair from creating Palworld, a game that some believe resembles Pokémon. The expert suggests that Nintendo's legal challenges against Palworld could amount to nothing more than corporate bullying, as the patents Nintendo might be relying on are not robust enough to stand up to legal scrutiny. The situation could be seen as an example of a large corporation trying to exert undue influence over a smaller competitor.

Crazy how far they are willing to go over nothing rather than tell Game Freak to get their shit together and sort the quality of the mainline games out.

Personally I'd drop the two game bullshit, make a full on complete game, and take their time making the best game they can without relying on a silly battle gimmick they'll ditch after one game. Gimmicks out of battle is what they should be focusing on, beauty contests, berry making, secret bases, the underground, Seasons, events during day / night and post game content like travelling to a new location or something.

porkChop1d ago

That's the thing, this is why we're now seeing more serious competitors in the genre. Game Freak has just been coasting by, doing the bare minimum in innovation for the last 20+ years. They need to get with the times. Hire more devs, give more dev time to foster creativity, etc. But now that they can't get away with that bare minimum they're trying to sue their competitors out of existence. It's disgusting.

gold_drake19h ago

been saying this since sun and moon.

gamefreak just isnt used to, still isnt used to, the console market. they did well on the handheld space but as a complete 3d developer z they fail miserable

the last two pkmn gens look like gamecube games. not to mention the bugs at launch.

but uve seen the ridiculous anount of copies sold at launch too.

Profchaos3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Realistically though palworld Pokemon with guns featured so many themes and concepts that Nintendont
There's no way they would make a game where you could use realistic weapons or have pals slaving away.

They're not the same genre at all they just feature similar characters

FinalFantasyFanatic55m ago

I pretty much agree, two editions of the same game shouldn't even been a thing at this point. The foundations are solid, but the lack of content and having a lived in world really let the latest games down.

posting articles from msn.com now seriously?

The article is actually Gamesradar's. MSN just used their page like a URL shortened link.

It's straight up bullying with mooney and using the government laws as a tool to do so. They should be fined.

Neat little collection. The majority of Ataris games don’t hold up that well but there are some arcade/console games that I still enjoy. I’ll definitely get this and I’m glad I waited as I wouldn’t want to buy digital DLC for the first collection
