The unit being hot to touch is normal for computer hardware. If you burn yourself touching it that would be a problem but there haven't been ANY reports about this. So until there are reports of people hurting themselves then it is way too premature to assume there is an issue.

azedean1296d ago (Edited 1296d ago )

It has been confirmed in a french video games news, on jeuxvideo.com, the journalist "KEN BOGART" confirm that the series X runs very hot. He also said that he can't talk too much because of the NDA

galmi1296d ago

yet he did speak 😂😂

potatoseal1296d ago

"If you burn yourself touching it that would be a problem"

--- In a separate video, Giant Bomb co-host Jeff Bakkalar said his pre-release console was emitting a significant amount of heat even when in standby mode, and even appeared to burn his hand on its storage expansion during a live stream.

“Here’s what’s crazy… this was just plugged in in standby mode behind me and you guys, the entire thing is a little toasty,” ----

morganfell1296d ago

They aren’t saying it’s warm. Keep that in mind. They are saying hot...toasty.

bouzebbal1296d ago

Let's wait for first owners heat diagnosis.. But doesn't sound good.

Army_of_Darkness1296d ago

Let's hope it doesn't turn out to be another RROD fiasco.

Profchaos1296d ago

I'm incredibly concerned about the power consumption while the unit is in standby if it's hit just being in standby that's very concerning for my energy bills

blackbeld1296d ago

The return of RROD? Let’s wait and see.

DJStotty1296d ago (Edited 1296d ago )

@potato

"In a separate video, Giant Bomb co-host Jeff Bakkalar said his pre-release console was emitting a significant amount of heat even when in standby mode, and even appeared to burn his hand on its storage expansion during a live stream."

You mean the live stream where he claimed it was "hot", but then held it to the camera for around 2 minutes? that one?

"“Here’s what’s crazy… this was just plugged in in standby mode behind me and you guys, the entire thing is a little toasty,” ----"

Did he disclose how long he had been running the system? I keep my one X on for a long time (12 hours min) and it is very warm at the back, standard for electronics

kneon1295d ago

internal components may be hot to the touch, but if your computer feels hot then you've got a problem.

My main pc has six 140mm case fans so it can blow a lot of air. I've been running it non-stop for almost a week with the cpu, gpu, and memory constantly at 80-100% utilization and the case isn't even warm.

Bathyj1296d ago

Are you suggesting it was an old build?

SullysCigar1296d ago

One source says they had pre-production hardware, but multiple other sources (including GiantBomb) have said their Series X was hot to the touch and was blowing out hot air even in standby mode.

How much power is this thing going to use in standby mode if it's producing that much heat and having to run a fan to blow air constantly? Be good to get some answers on this. Anyone know when the NDA is up?

RaidenBlack1296d ago

"old build"?
touché 😄

crazyCoconuts1296d ago

@Sully - hot air during standby is very odd. If that's true it would make me think MS hasn't finished working through all the OS features with the new hardware, so it's not in a true low power standby - just faking it. Consoles do perform more during standby than PCs do - like updating and such, but that should still be performed at a significantly reduced clock and power level. I guess long story short the heat during standby *should* be addressable via firmware changes at least i'm guessing

CaptainObvious8781296d ago (Edited 1296d ago )

Oh man, that was absolutely savage.

I love it.

bouzebbal1296d ago

Yeah from September 🤦‍♂️

Guess they should have called it the Xbox350° hiiiyoooo

Bullshit they would not showcase a prototype this close to launch

smashman981296d ago

Agreed I could believe OS is pre-release (because it is) but it's far too late to change any hardware on this thing.
I do know SSD's get hot so that doesn't worry me but the system getting hot worries me for sure. Although I would hope MS is not dumb enough to have another red ring situation on their hands

Bathyj1296d ago

Xbox gamers are going to be buying working betas on launch day.

DJStotty1296d ago

@bathyj

"Xbox gamers are going to be buying working betas on launch day."

But the Series X is getting reviewers hands on with the console, are you not suspect that the PS5 is not getting the same so close to launch?

Atom6661296d ago

For now, but expect it to be the same at retail. For what's in these boxes, they're going to generate serious heat. Their ability to dissipate that heat is what's important.

I don't doubt that the SSD add on got damn hot too. People overlook that. My Samsung 960 was clocking close to 50C/120F. I bought a $15 heatsink to drop it down a bit. It's not a compact little external either.

potatoseal1297d ago

I'm sure the Xbox Series X will be fine. They would have done loads of testing on it.

If it gets incredibly hot running OLD games, imagine how hot when it runs with TRUE Next Gen games. Keep it away from paper and curtains lol

Jin_Sakai1297d ago (Edited 1297d ago )

And give it plenty of room to breathe in you entertainment stand. I also read somewhere that it was running very hot in a standby mode. That shouldn’t be happening.

Gamingsince19811296d ago

@Zeref

No it wasn't lol , there have been a few people saying it now along with videos.

SullysCigar1296d ago

Just what you want, to have to open up your console a couple of months after purchase to apply a decent thermal paste. Hopefully it won't come to that, but I'm pretty sure these news outlets that have the console aren't playing as long and hard as gamers will be this holiday season, so I guess we'll have to wait, see and hope.

Maybe they'll offer a USB fan add-on as an extra, like they're doing with their proprietary storage?

DarXyde1296d ago

Ignore Zeref. You could have an Xbox explode in your hands and he'll argue that you're responsible for buying a combustible console.

I think the heat is expected given the power it has, but it is giving me a bit of a YLOD vibe. Time will tell.

NeoGamer2321296d ago

To me the most important thing for consoles is noise. My PS4 Pro I have to turn the volume up a few notches to hear games properly. Same with XBO X when it is playing a game that pushes the machine.

I like that both these new consoles are paying attention to console noise.

All I care about is noise and power consumption. Hopefully both new consoles are good on that.

I live in a place where console heat doesn't matter much. But, I can see how that could be a problem in climates that are closer to the equator.

XiNatsuDragnel1296d ago

@Zeref

Nii san there's credible for this.

frostypants1296d ago (Edited 1296d ago )

This is good advice with all electronics. Many media stands are designed by people who give no thought to air flow. Buy a stand that is as open as possible.

CaptainHenry9161297d ago (Edited 1297d ago )

Hmm Houston we might have a problem in the long term with next gen games 🤔

@Chris12

That wasn't a nice thing to say. I just don't want it to be the Red ring of death part 2

SatanSki1297d ago

Doesn't matter whether game is old or new, but how much processing power it utilizes. Old games are brute forcing their way to gain better performance, perhaps utilizing hundred percent of cpu ang gpu in the process, thus making system run hot. Better wait for more tests with new generation games, before judgment.

gerbintosh1296d ago

@potatoseal

Red ring of death says hello

1296d ago
bouzebbal1296d ago

Yes like they did with 360.. So much testing

kayoss1296d ago

Same way they did "load of testing" on the Xbox 360?

anubusgold1296d ago

NO that was the EU making a last minute changes to the laws about lead in computer components that started that.

Games1st1296d ago

Maybe there are true next gen games made only for Series X, I certainly hope so. Majority won't be true next gen and limit game design to work on pc and series s.

RedDevils1296d ago

Fine as in melting whatever it is left of it, yep it will be damn fine.
