With the PS5 release almost here, I thought now would be the perfect time to tell you what PS4 games will be getting free upgrades to PS5.

Without a doubt any game from PS4 should be upgrade free to PS5. Negativity is increasing in Sony land, with always connected, always online, 70 euro games. IMO Sony must think wisely what will be next gen.

It's nice if a company wants to give away a better version for free which is by definition "cross buy". I'd love if all of it was free. But gamers aren't entitled to it. And developers shouldn't be expected to give it away all the time.

BC that makes a last Gen game look better is a courtesy to gamers. Not a right. A reworked game that's built to take advantage of a newer console and given away is a courtesy. Not a right.

If a developer puts in more work, more time and more money, they deserve compensation.

Agreed it's an bonus and not something we are entitled to. If I have already paid and played god of war than SSM are not required to give their next generation upgrade for free(using that as an example)

TBH we need to find a middle ground how about these developers charge a small fee of $15-20 for true next generation patches(not simple high res and FPS)

I agree to some degree, but not all upgrades are equal. If it's just specs and resolution tweaks as seen in early Pro games, that is absurd to expect you to buy the game again a second time. On the other extreme, it would be absurd for me to expect Bluepoint to provide me with a free copy of Demon's Souls because I bought it on PS3; they weren't even involved in that version of the game and certainly did an extraordinary amount of work on the remake. The difficult, murky area is where a significant amount of work has been put into upgrading a game but not what you'd expect for a 100% new game. I could see some expectation of a fee to pay for their staff a hefty sum to do that type of work, which isn't cheap. The amount that is merited for that isn't entirely clear to me.

Wait, so you believe companies should pay their development teams to create free upgrades for everyone? That's a pretty entitled idea.

This whole concept of free upgrades is new to the gaming space and there's no reason any developer should feel pressured to do so at their own expense. Yes, it's a wonderful thank you to your fans and I applaud those that are doing it but I'm not going to shame those that aren't.

bloodborne might be a bit tricky considering the game was capped at 30fps....I heard, so it may require some reworking.

It's true that the game logic was based on 30fps, but a modder found that there was also support buried in the code for logic to follow 60fps so once he enabled that and did some tweaking, he got the game running (mostly) fine at 60fps. Given From has the source code, it seems they could probably knock out a 60fps patch that worked better in pretty short order.

Spiderman is going on 3 years old. I'd expect tlou2 and ghosts ps5 versions/patch to have been worked on alongside the ps4 version.

All that article is stating is that Both Ghosts and TLOU2 are going to be Backwards Compatible with PS5... It does not state either will receive an update to be better on PS5.

Witcher 3 is receiving a free upgrade for the new consoles and it as a lot older than Spider-man. To me, as a thank you to gamers for games that sold really well (let's say anything over 2 million in sales) on the current gen consoles the developers/publishers should take the small amount of time to do simple things like improve the framerates, and improve the graphical assets for the games. These changes are simple to do if the game was developed properly. Witcher 3 is doing it, so everyone else should be able as well.

Again with bu) shit jabs at Sony. There isn't anything confusing. Microsoft's smart delivery is not builtin. The publisher/dev has to choose to use it. Not all Xbox games will support it.

In fact, that is what's wrong with modern society, entitled people making a fuss on social media is almost always blown out of all proportion, and this is no different.

You can play your existing Spiderman on PS5, for example, so nobody is being forced to buy the remaster. There is a remastered version that took thousands of hours of developers time to make, that is available to those who want it, why should entitled people get that product that cost money to make, get it for free?

I think Ubisoft are trying to win back credit this year, they've gone all out on the free upgrades and also keeping their prices lower, so I'm backing them. I've got Watchdogs and Assassin's Creed PS4 versions preordered both for £85 with the intention to just play them on PS5, which is a bargain when you look at some of the £70 priced games.

That's the whole point, these people creating a stink can choose to play their original PS4 version on their PS5, nobody is locking them out of playing the original game. That isn't enough for them though, they want something that took thousands of hours of work for free, as if their original purchase didn't already deliver enough value to them.

The fact like articles like this exist is an indictment on Sony's ability to communicate anything leading up to this launch. I was lucky enough to get a preorder, but it would be nice if Sony would actually act like they were launching a new console in 4 weeks.

The one game on this particular list I will play upgraded for sure is the Witcher 3 . Great game and it could use the extra power . I’ll play Bloodborne if upgraded or not it’s that good . I’ll also play GoT upgraded or not but I think it will get an upgrade.
