Herzog Zwei is a hard to get into but still a very playable classic that was fundamental in paving the way to modern RTSs; and it’s one hell of a way to close off the Sega Ages collection.
"It's mind-blowing that Herzog Zwei released over 3 decades ago as it holds up as an incredible real-time strategy game and playing it made me wish there was a modern remake that smoothed out its more dated aspects. I look forward to the announcement, Sega!" - A.J. Maciejewski from Video Chums
VGChartz's Evan Norris: "A console RTS that inspired several PC classics but still goes largely unheralded, Herzog Zwei is an ideal candidate for the final installment of the outstanding SEGA AGES line-up. Designed by Technosoft in 1989, Herzog Zwei combined arcade action with real-time strategy (RTS), a potent mixture that inspired games like Dune II, WarCraft, and StarCraft. Looking back, it also represents a very early precursor to the MOBA genre. The wizards at studio M2 have brought it back to life on Switch with all the usual SEGA AGES bells and whistles, plus an essential tutorial mode and, for the first time, online multiplayer."
Sega Ages is a failure in my eyes. They aimed high by saying Saturn and Dreamcast titles might be added. Here we are years later and they not only failed to deliver they killed the Ages line-up . Typical Sega. Shame on me for expecting more I guess.
