People are still going to buy PS5 due to brand loyalty and for their renowned exclusives. The only big hit Sony would take from this is losing ES6.

CorndogBurglar29d ago

Are they losing Elder Scrolls 6 though? Didn't they confirm that any game already announced for Playstation would still come to PS? I thought they already said ES6 will be on PS.

Thing is they just bought them. Paid billions for them. You would think if they was keeping it off playstation they be shouting from the roofs that elder Scrolls 6 is pc and series s/x only so pre order now type thing.

I believe ES6 will most likely be multiplat, but the profits will go to MS, similar to Minecraft..

The teaser for ES6 was at E3 2018 (if i remember correctly) with no platforms given.

They can not do that until the acquisition is complete, which will be mid-2021. Once the deal is completed, they can do and say what they like.

"Microsoft expects the acquisition to close in the second half of fiscal year 2021 and to have minimal impact to non-GAAP operating income in fiscal years 2021 and 2022."

Fiscal year, my friend.

Q1 fiscal year 2021 started 1st of July 2020. We are currently in Q2 FY 2021, it ends this December.

Microsoft didn’t spend 7.5 B to release games on the competition’s console. What’s funny is that if it was Sony who bought Bethesda, we wouldn’t even have these talks of them releasing the games on Xbox.

@Dirty

"Additionally, the deal is expected to close by the end of June 2021, which is the end of Microsoft’s fiscal year."

Source : https://www.thesixthaxis.co...

The deal is due to end "IN THE SECOND HALF" of fiscal year 2021 which is Q3 - Jan-Mar or Q4 Apr-Jun, it is literally right there in the quote.

Again the Quote :-

"Microsoft expects the acquisition to close in the second half of fiscal year 2021 and to have minimal impact to non-GAAP operating income in fiscal years 2021 and 2022."

And i am quite sure i said the deal would be done by mid 2021.

"They can not do that until the acquisition is complete, which will be mid-2021."

Neither Starfield or TES VI have any announced platforms. So considering Spencer's comments, those games will be Xbox/PC only.

Of course they will but this time Microsoft got something to offer instead last of generation .

GottaBjimmyb29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

I don't think this move had much to do with Sony and Playstation, feel like it was more a move against Amazon and Google because MS has a pretty big lead in the streaming and game service market and Bethesda games historically are very popular, but also are not going to suffer as badly from latency.

They still have a big uphill battle to Match Sony on software, doubt this does too much, definitely huge, but doubt it is going to dissuade many from buying PS5.

Firstly Jin, Sony isn't the only publisher of AAA games, Some MS games are just as well known. Secondly, I believe you are being somewhat naive if you think the market isn't undergoing a transformation. And finally, I do believe you are correct that people will follow PS5 out of brand loyalty, at least early on in the generation, but as the market evolves that will almost certainly change. An example may help my point. Early on, PS5 will supply it's usual first class titles, but by mid way through the generation MS will have surpassed the number of AAA titles Sony can produce AND it will still have gamepass,Xcloud, PC,console and BC. Sony? Well, they have exclusives.

jairusmonillas28d ago

Most people play Elder Scrolls on PC.

Obz28d ago

Elder Scrolls 6 will not be on Playstation.

PS5 is still going to dominate the market worldwide. If Microsoft release Bethesta games only on gamepass, they will not be able to regain that investment of 7 billions.

You really think they're going to be "only on Gamepass" lol. You will still be able to buy physical copies 😂

gamer928d ago

Halo and Gears were not system sellers like they used to be. Halo, Gears, Elderscrolls, Starfield, Doom, and Fallout - now that sounds more like a system selling lineup

jairusmonillas28d ago

It will be like Mixer. Buy Ninja and Shroud only to shut down after a few months. lol

Eshaun28d ago

If half of Xbox members have game pass at $15 Xbox will make that back in 2 years. So that’s 25 million users times $15. In 24 months that’s $9 billion.

Probably won't have a huge impact. Would have a bigger impact if they came out and said every Bethesda game will be exclusive to Xbox, but we all know MS want the software sales on PS5/PS4. A new Fallout single player is the one I'd miss the most if it wasn't coming out on PS5.

FinalFantasyFanatic29d ago

I agree, I don't think this buyout is going to have the impact that people fear it will, Microsoft wants that money back and those games probably won't stay Xbox exclusive.

Obz28d ago

Microsoft does not want the short term money back of selling to Playstation, they are a 1.5T dollar company you moron. They'd rather have people buy into their ecosystem and subscribe to game pass.

gamer928d ago

Sony was rumored to be trying to get Starfield exclusive a few months ago. Xbox came over the top and bought the whole parent company. You think they spent 7.5 billion to share profits with Sony? The only thing they want is to get people on gamepass and rake in the money. Getting some AAA system selling exclusives to go along with same old Halo/Gears, that's a good bonus too. I wouldn't be surprised if all Bethesda games were now Xbox/PC exclusive

Obz28d ago

Upcoming bethesda titles are next gen only so no need for PS4. With Xcloud availability to billions of android devices, MSFT does not need to put their acclaimed games such as Starfield, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Doom on competitor's consoles.

Bathyj29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Haha. No it doesn't. It means Microsoft can dangle that future games carrot a bit longer but even Xbox gamers are going to wake up eventually if they don't start getting some quality bangers.

Then again....

Short term it means very little as I thing their games will be mostly multiplat as MS needs to make some money on this deal. Long term they will leverage that studio and maybe keep some exclusives but I don't think MS really care. They want to make money and this was just to keep Amazon or Google from doing the same thing.

CaptainObvious87829d ago

PS4 and xbone exclusive support this generation has been night and day, and coming into the start of next gen MS doesn't have a single exclusive.

If xbox gamers haven't woken up by now they never ever will.
