Amazon Luna servers will run Windows games directly on Nvidia T4 GPUs

No need for Stadia-style ports to Linux.

That is interesting. So know we have Luna running the Windows versions of the games, Stadia that requires a specific port to Linux and Game Pass that currently run from actual console boards.

I think Stadia runs on AMD GPUs whereas this uses 8TF Nvidia GPUs.

An interesting point I read...

"While the T4 is based on the same TU104 GPU that powers the GeForce RTX 2080 Super, a measure 70W TDP could mean a poor 4K experience relative to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X."

Vits1728d ago

That would be correct. While there very few gaming benchmarks about the T4. It should theoretically be in the same league as a RTX 2070 - only a bit higher.

And that is most likely the reason why there will not be 4K on launch.

the only way amazon would get me to use their service is if it comes free with prime which it doesn't so i see no point
edit: also realized i don't have a fast enough connection to use it anyway. Sticking to game pass where i can download them onto my hard drive.

Wow… Nintendo is champ in Japan, but the speed of sale is remarkable.

Proves that console gaming isn’t dead yet not by a long shot.

gold_drake20h ago

not surprised, the switch is relatively cheap in japan.

I guess the resistance against always online and digital only consoles is BS. The people have voted with their wallets.

NotoriousWhiz18h ago

What are you talking about? Switch 2 is neither always online nor digital only.

DivineHand12517h ago

Nintendo can literally block your Switch 2 console from accessing their online services at any time. When that happens, it becomes a brick. You won't even be able to play those games that use game key cards that are not installed on the console. Some users who have been blocked tried factory resetting their system, and when they tried to boot it up with a new account, they are stuck.

Speaking of game key cards, the majority of third party publishers have opted to use those instead of loading their full game on those cartridges. Imagine having a library of game key card games and going on a long trip but not being able to play a particular game because you need to connect to Nintendo servers to download the game first. It is not like the old days where you just plug in and play.

Game key cards make sense for large games like GTA, Red Dead, or COD, but I don't see why publishers who have games with sizes less than 32 GB need to use that option.

If you try to mod your system it could get banned from online play like every single system since the ps3 and xbox
