Spider-Man Miles Morales PS5 File Size to Be Smaller Than PS4 Version

The Spider-Man Miles Morales PS5 file size will be smaller compared to the PS4 version as per official Sony listings.

morganfell1306d ago (Edited 1306d ago )

It is a somewhat smaller game on the PS4. As regards the next gen version, with the speed of the PS5's drive and I/O system there is no need to duplicate assets 4 or 5 times across the drive.

This is huge news. Makes the storage space go that much further!

DarthZoolu1305d ago

THIS IS OLD NEWS! We were told games would be smaller by MS months ago! No body listened for some reason.

gamer78041305d ago (Edited 1305d ago )

We knew this games will be smaller in certain aspects . And miles morales is a smaller game.

SullysCigar1305d ago

^ Nice try gamer7804, but this is comparing the exact same game on PS4 and PS5, but with visuals and performance boosted and Ray tracing on PS5 version.

And DarthZoolu, if you can link to an article showing the same game running on current and next gen Xbox despite this level of improvement, I'd be interested to see it.

Let's not pretend the PS5 speed isn't more than twice as fast as series x. That's what is making this possible.

Audio files take up the most room in a game believe it or not, maybe the audio compression is better on ps5, the textures I would have thought would take up more room on ps5 as they will be higher quality to fill more main memory and better shader performance.
Compression obviously is much better across the board.

morganfell1305d ago (Edited 1305d ago )

I think the real benefits of the PS5s seek abilities along with their compression tech won't be evident until next year as developers really start to get a handle on the new hardware and software. In addition, Oodle is just now coming online for the PS5.

NOTE: Just realized my initial post should say smaller than the PS4 so it lines up with my second sentence ha ha. Damned autofill...

excaliburps1305d ago

Yes. Not a lot of people know how big audio is in terms of overall data size. Hopefully, Sony and MS have somehow planned better compression techniques for games AND patches. I mean, there is no way we should be downloadin 20GB patches for games unless they're full-on expansions.

Christopher1305d ago

1. @nirwanda is right about audio files
2. I think we should also realize that the size of the city might be much smaller as MM is only supposed to be protecting Harlem, which is about 1/5th the area of the original game. I'm assuming they'll stretch it out, but it likely won't be at all as big as the first as far as the game world goes.

nirwanda1305d ago

PS4/Xbox one game used uncompressed audio to take the load off the Jag CPUs so they had a job taken away from them.
Nope ps5/series X have dedicated audio chips and better CPUs audio can be decompressed without the same strain.
I think mm will be across the whole city, would make more sense doing the remaster if they have to remake the whole city anyway.

Cerny did say this could be the case, not as much of a need for duplicate assets. It's minor for now but i wonder if we'll see more larger differences as time goes on

morganfell1306d ago

Certainly next gen textures will be larger but offset by the need not to duplicate.

isarai1306d ago (Edited 1306d ago )

Also these new compression technologies are certainly going to make things interesting

Timzster1306d ago

Hopefully we can see that once the inevitable comparison videos are made.

Teflon021305d ago

I assume games like Modern Warfare does this which would be why the game is so big. Because I don't get it otherwise. So we should see how it is once CoD released on next gen. I am curious about how what it'll do overtime too though. Series and PS5 ATM aren't going to really take advantage but I assume the sizes will be better over time

Games1st1305d ago

It's a launch and cross gen game. They don't time to fully optimise file size.

This is what I’m hopeful for, Cerny said they are trying to make compression technology more wide spread. Even if that mean making a 50 gig game 40 gigs that still means you can fit an additional 2 games on a tb. Would be nice.

excaliburps1306d ago

Yes, exactly. This is what makes next-gen, "next-gen" for me and not just graphics. Better compression for games, faster installs of patches, smaller patches, etc. If that can be delivered, that's definitely worth a jiump for most people.

gamer78041305d ago

MS and Sony are both trying to make games smaller in certain aspects to help offset the increase in size of other assets. Whether through compression or less asset duplication. Don’t expect games to be smaller than before. This will just help offset.

Knightofelemia1306d ago

If I can't find a PS5 to enjoy Spiderman 2 I'll at least get to enjoy the game on PS4 52gigs not bad usually other games are like 100gigs for PS4. I just hope when I do find a PS5 I hope it will take an external HDD or SDD I saw how much the Series X external is it's like $300 Canadian I want next gen but not at that price for an external.

Nitrowolf21306d ago

they both handle external HDD the same way. last-gen are runnable, with next-gen (PS5, XS) only storable on them. The internal SSD or the card (XS) will be required to play any next-gen games. Least you can store them on the external though to help save download time

Bathyj1305d ago

Got a link that says next gen games are storable on external HDDs?

GoodGuy091306d ago

Only by a 2 gig difference lol. Yea...next gen will definitely still be huge in size and will be even bigger because obviously better visuals and whatnot. Demons souls is 60gigs and to kinda compare, dark souls 3 and sekiro are around 20gb each on ps4. Bloodborne around 30gb. And just to throw it in because its bluepoint, shadow of the colossus was around 15gb.

Lets see how much a difference the sizes will be for other cross gen games like valhalla and eventually forbidden west.

JackBNimble1305d ago

That's not even the actual size of the game, it's required memory on hdd/ssd.
You need like 10 or 15 extra GB's of free space just to download on ps4 and probably not much difference on the ps5.
The game is probably only 35gb's on ps4.

The 5 best games on PlayStation Plus Premium that make subscribing worth it

The PS5 is an incredible console, and if you're lucky enough to have one, or have just received one for Christmas then you'll already know there is a host of great games out there.

What you may not be aware of is that if you subscribe to PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium, you'll actually get access to a huge catalogue of titles to play at any time. Many of which you can stream without having to do any downloads. If you have a PlayStation Portal you could even play these titles from your bed.

Abnor_Mal108d ago

Damn the only one I’ve played so far is Miles Morales, although I do own Control and Rift Apart.

ChasterMies108d ago

Odd list. Where is Horizon Forbidden West? Ghost of Tsushima? Demon’s Souls? Returnal? And fun indie games like Superliminal? Where’s “A Plage Tale Requiem” and “Evil West”, the current PS+ Essential offerings?

Exvalos96d ago

Evil west is underrated I'm having a really good time playing it.

juniorpop108d ago

Like seriously? Those are games Extra Tier can get - so not worth upgrading to Premium
