The Last of Us Day 2020 Preview: Celebrate with New Limited-Edition Posters, Collectibles, and More

From Naughty Dog: "Hey everyone! It’s been a few months since we launched The Last of Us Part II in June, but we’ve been keeping busy. In August, we launched our free Grounded Update*, which added new features like Permadeath Mode, Grounded Difficulty, and other bonuses to the game. We’ve also been hard at work on preparations for The Last of Us Day, our annual community celebration, which kicks off tomorrow September 26. We have a lot of exciting content lined up, which you’ll be able to find on tomorrow starting at 9:00am PT, but we wanted to give you a little preview in the meantime. Let's get right to it!"

It's "Outbreak Day". Nothing is sacred against sensitivities anymore. :P

sampsonon26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

People are dying because of a Pandemic. Why do you care what they call their event?
I have been sick since yesterday and am concerned. Please stop being a tool and for once in your life be understanding.

It doesn't effect you one way or the other. But to people that went through or are going through this shit right now, it means a lot.

I hope no one in your family gets sick.
Take care.

Elda26d ago

Hope you feel & get better.

VerminSC26d ago

I work as an ICU nurse I see more covid patients and am more exposed than 99% of people. It still bothers me that naughty dog thinks we can’t differentiate between a real world pandemic and a fictional zombie outbreak.

OtterX26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

@sampsonon "A Pandemic", not this pandemic. I'm not downplaying Covid19 at all. Feel better man, and hope youre clear of it.TLOU has nothing to do w Covid though, and the word "Outbreak" shouldnt be banned or censored in unrelated material, IMO. I was involved in a near fatal car accident many years ago and was told not to have sensitivity to a recent car-crashing simulator where the goal is to maximize deaths and injuries to the drivers and passengers. I would understand if TLOU was exploiting this particular Covid pandemic. But anyways, feel better and the best to you.

@VerminSC Exactly.

sampsonon26d ago

@OtterX: thanks for the support.

"the word "Outbreak" shouldnt be banned or censored in unrelated material, IMO."

ND didn't ban, nor did they get censored.
They themselves decided to change the name, and they had every right to do so.
It sounds more like you are trying to ban and censor their decision to change the name, which totally contradicts your point.

sampsonon26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

@VerminSC: what bothers me is the hypocritical views people are using when a company decides, for their best interests, what they decide to do. Can't have it both ways.

RgR26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

As long as you don't have serious preconditions you should be fine.

I know plenty of people who have got it. Among them several older people including a 90+ year old and all of them are fine.

May also depend on which strain you got since this thing has already mutated.

Word of caution...unless you can't breath at all don't let them put you on a ventilator. ask instead for a non intrusive breathing device. Ventilators have killed the majority of patients with whom it's been used. It's intrusive and damages your healthy lungs. Unfortunately hospitals are incentivised for every ventilator they use.

Get better soon.

It's probably just to avoid confusion. If I randomly heard someone mention "Outbreak Day" I'd assume it had something to do with the pandemic, but "The Last of Us Day" pretty much does what it says on the tin.

OtterX26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

True. This is actually a really good point, Chaos. Makes more sense.

Rimeskeem26d ago

Are you not being sensitive to sensitivities?

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen26d ago

Naughty Dog is being sensitive to people's experiences during this pandemic and how they feel about SARS COVID 19, unlike some people in this thread.

OtterX26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

Tell me this, China has been fighting Avian Flu H7N9 for most of these years since the original TLOU was released, which had a mortality rate of about 30%. It did not however have the longer incubation period of Covid19 to spread much outside of China, however many within were devastated. Should Naughty Dog have self-censored their "Outbreak Day" title during those years to appeal to the Chinese who were suffering and allow TLOU to actually release inside of China? Do you believe in China's censorship/banning of outside media/games who are not appealing to their peoples' sufferings? Or does that kind of thing only matter when it hits the West?

I buy Chaos_Order's theory above, which is to believe Naughty Dog also changed the name to separate its identity away from Covid19, avoid confusion. A bit of both.

I was wrong to drop the word "sensitivities" I could have worded it better. I'm not downplaying the devastation of Covid19, however TLOU virus =/= Covid19, and is not similar in how it hits people. Activision could start self-censoring Call of Duty bc of all of the devastation wars have caused to individuals, both infantry and civilian. That brings into question a whole slippery slope. Where do we stop?

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen26d ago

The ORIGINAL Last of Us wasn't released in China at all, but it was released in Europe, Japan, North and South America.

Anything else?

OtterX26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

@IGiveHugs - Exactly. You think you're presenting news to me there? I noted China's censorship of Western media. They believe they "protect" their people from outside influence. Do you believe in China's censorship, or do you believe TLOU and other media should be allowed to have been released, regardless of how China or how SOME of its people feel about it?

PS5 upgrades?
and Factions?

OtterX26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

I hope that is a surprise announcement tomorrow! PS5 Factions at launch would be a bit of a mic drop. TLOU multiplayer was fun enough, but TLOU2 mechanics are just so fluid and may bring it's MP into more relevance in the gaming world. Things like leaping through the air, landing on your back and being able to shoot from that laying position will just be amazing in MP.

This quote from their post is promising: "We’ve covered a lot here, but we have a few other things up our sleeves for tomorrow’s The Last of Us Day festivities."

sampsonon26d ago

I hope they have a ps4 version of mp. The game was made and sold on the ps4, so it's only right ps4 users have the opportunity to play it. Remember, not everyone will be able to get the ps5 because there aren't enough to sell to everyone.

So true. I absolutely loved the original games MP so much, a bit too much lol. I can’t imagine just how much more intense, brutal & awesome the MP will be now. I’m so ready!

BillyG0AT26d ago

They'll make a day for anything these days.

sampsonon26d ago

The day has been around for a long time. Guess you're late to the party.

"The Last of Us Part II Abby Cosplay Guide"

Ohhh, I don't think people are going to like this lol

ZeroBlue226d ago (Edited 26d ago )

In fairness, it's probably easier to be a body builder when you're not in the apocalypse. Not sure how Abby finds the time.

sampsonon26d ago

guess you should have played the f ing game.

BillyG0AT26d ago

Probably inbetween the times they're more worried about calling people bigots in the apocalypse

@Birdhouse680: "Ya Abby size in the game was very unrealistic. All I’ll say without getting attacked by the left"

Here dummy.

Attacked by the left? Jesus you are a special case.

Rimeskeem26d ago

I would think the opposite, at least in TLOU2, it seems the only thing Abby had to do on off time was workout. No WWW, no electricity for the most part, may as well get that muscle.
