What Nintendo Needs to do for The Legend of Zelda 35th Anniversary

With the release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, I've spent some time wondering how the 35th anniversary for the Legend of Zelda would be.

They won't do remakes probably, is too time consuming. They should be focusing their resources on a new Zelda game (and future Nintendo games and even console). When Nintendo remakes a game they do it with a single title, they won't do a collection of remakes.

In my opinion, in the case they decide to sell a collection they shouldn't update the originals themselves, they should hire Japanese studio M2, the best in the business for these kind of things. I don't know any other studio that can handle old IPs with the love, respect and care as M2 does. Huge fan of their work...

meganick1312d ago

Nintendo’s remasters and remakes are always handed to third party devs. The main Zelda teams at Nintendo don’t work on those so it wouldn’t slow them down at all with new games. Twilight Princess and Windwaker have already been remastered nicely on Wii U, so it would be easy to port those to Switch. They could also remaster the 3DS versions of Ocarina and Majora easily.

Sirk7x1312d ago (Edited 1312d ago )

Wind Waker HD was developed by Nintendo. What I'm wondering is, if BotW 2 is coming out next year, how many other Zelda games would they feel comfortable releasing as well? Last Zelda collection was on Gamecube, and that was four games. I mean, there's LttP on the SNES online, but we're still missing the Oracles series, Minish Cap, Link Between Worlds, N64, both of the Wii U HD remasters, and a Skyward Sword remake is missing. I'm not counting DS ones or Four Swords lol. I doubt original Link's Awakening will be considered either. Regardless, that's alot of Zelda. I wonder what they're going to do.

FinalFantasyFanatic1311d ago

I only expect a collection of remasters, although I think if we do get them, it'll be similar quality to what Super Mario 3D Allstars was. As long as it looks decent, and plays fine, I'll fork out for it, I really want OoT, MM, SS and TP in a collection, alot of people mention Wind Waker which I'd be fine with too.

Greatball19871311d ago

Time doesn't mean anything in business. They can just hire another company to handle the remakes; the Demon Souls remake seems to a decent remake, all things considered. Nintendo has already done with before, look at Metroid: Samus Returns. Don't make excuses for them. I don't see why they should hire M2 at all, if they're hiring another company for a collection then put the money into it to be true remakes, OoT deserves it (so did SM64 but...). It isn't like they can't afford it as the richest company in Japan.

As for a new Zelda game, they're just re-using BotW so we're not going to be getting a wholly new Zelda game for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a BotW 3 right afterward. Nintendo loves coasting and Zelda gave them the perfect opportunity to do so with BotW. I don't see a good excuse not to at least remake OoT and MM considering these facts.

LG_Fox_Brazil1312d ago

I won't lie, a Zelda collection with ports for the Switch would make me buy the console in a heartbeat

JBlaze2261312d ago

If they do a remastered I hope they do Twilight princess, Skyward Sword, and Wind Waker. Ocarina of time and Majoras Mask already have remakes and ports.

SpeedDemon1311d ago

And if they do, id hoped they would port the remade versions and not the originals like they did with Mario 64

JBlaze2261311d ago

ok but I want to play skyward sword that game is good I dont know why people give it flac

Greatball19871311d ago

No good reason not to include both since they were just ROMs anyway.

SpeedDemon1311d ago

You would think, but Nintendo can be weird sometimes.

TitaniumExposed_VIP1311d ago

Wind Waker on the Switch and while you at it give Metroid Prime trilogy some love as well.

Zelda a link to the past using links awakening updated graphics is all i want.

FinalFantasyFanatic1311d ago

I hope this does happen eventually, that games needs the Link's Awakening treatment.

Sirk7x1311d ago (Edited 1311d ago )

I'd like to see a complete re-imagining of LttP's story in a Breath of the Wild style. That would be something else.

Greatball19871311d ago

So an empty open world with nowhere to go, nothing to do, nothing to see, and a handful of enemies, all with no dungeons like BotW but with LttP's story?

No thanks, leave BotW to BotW.

Gaming4Life19811311d ago (Edited 1311d ago )

I loved breath of the wild but i like traditional zelda games with dungeons and items to find to beat the dungeon and boss. Breath of the wild in in my top 5 zelda games but is more like 4 or 5 on the list.

Breath of the wild had an amazing world but the whole shrine thing with no dungeons was lame imo. When i first saw lightning strike the ground and light the grass on fire i was amazed, probably the only moment in the last 10 years of gaming thay shocked me lol.

Greatball19871311d ago

I hope they don't use the same weird art style for LttP, that game was darker than LA so it wouldn't fit at all. They can use the same engine or whatever but the art can't work.

Gaming4Life19811311d ago

I was only talking about the graphics engine i dont want anything changed just an upgrade to modern graphics like links awakening.

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno77d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic108d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast108d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul108d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.

I like it would also be cool if some created Dragon Caesar in the game I would love to watch the two going at it.
