Super Mario 3D All-Stars is Nintendo at its worst

Jeff Grubb: "Super Mario 3D All-Stars is Nintendo knowing that it can get away with less than the bare minimum, and I don't know how to stop it."

The only way to stop Nintendo getting their way with these cash grabs is to STOP letting them get their way.

Unfortunately there are misinformed parents out there that just assume the games will have been brought up to speck since the original launch, or that a collection of games would be complete. That trust is misplaced these days.

Unfortunately, there are also the sheeple that will just blindly buy and praise Nintendo, rather than calling them out and demanding better before parting with their cash.

Reviewers that don't mention the shortcomings should also be held responsible, in my opinion.

Well I bought the game for my kids. I know it's not the best but it's on the switch. They all wanted the game and they enjoy it. I don't think it should be a $60 game but it's my choice to buy it. The switch is a great kids console.

If you are in the US it went down to $50 briefly on 09/18/2020 so if you bought it from a place like Amazon or Best Buy you could have received $10 back.

Gaming4Life198141d ago

I bought the game cause i wanted to play mario galaxy as i skipped it on the wii cause the wii mote and motion controls was something i could not do.

This collection is a cash grab and nintendo should have fully remastered these games because i can emulate Mario 64 and sunshine better than this. I normally dont support nintendo on their cash grabs which is out of control on the switch but i wanted mario galaxy.

I agree its our choice to buy it but nintendo should get called out on it and not be given a pass.

Seraphim41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

I mean $60 for 3 games is not a bad price; that's $20 each. I haven't opened my copy but from what I have seen about these games I do think they should've spent time polishing these games up [especially 64] but for what it is, it's not a terrible package And making Mario 64 4:3 is mindboggling. That should've been widescreen or an option to play either widescreen of 4:3. Regardless I for one am just happy to finally play Galaxy since I skipped the Wii and Wii U. *update* actually $50 if you bought from Amazon. just seen I got a refund of $10.35*

Consider this. Nintendo or any other publisher could've put forth very little effort and released 3 games like this as standalone titles for $40-60 each. And I say $40 only because I'd be hard pressed to see Mario 64 priced at $60 standalone. Sunshine and Galaxy however...

@Seraphim They’re just ROMS running on an emulator. Nintendo have done literally nothing. So yes $20 each is incredibly expensive!

Nah come on! parents don't care about that crp. Do you think they care about specks? Maybe violence or sex in games, they care about getting a good value for their money. If they buy this it will be because it is a 3x1; if they don't buy this won't be because of specks or not having galaxy 2 or the menu being generic

JustTheFax41d ago

You can see it in the comments...god these nintendo fans are weak and pathetic. "They should be called out on this and not be given a pass, but I still paid for retail price for it anyway!" Yeah that showed them! haha

Germaximus42d ago

Really great article.

I think in a way it does make sense to offer older games on the new platform without updating it or "remastering" it. However, it would be nicer of course to get a real remaster. Still, people do miss out on games and it's nice to have them offered.

PurpHerbison41d ago

The originals should have been added in as a bonus along side remasters. I'm sure there is many examples of this but one that comes to mind is Street Fighter 2 HD Remix. You could play the new version with the updated visuals or you could play the untouched classic.

Silly gameAr41d ago

Nah. Anything Nintendo does is gold. Every shady thing they do gets swept under the rug. No one throws a hissy fit for days upon days about the mistakes Nintendo makes.

RosweeSon41d ago

That’s not true there’s always you guys here to tell us how shady they are they are doomed anti consumer and awful. If you keep banging the drum hard enough someone might jump ship with you. For everyone else they are obviously happy. Get over it. Zzz

Monster_Tard41d ago

"No one throws a hissy fit for days upon days about the mistakes Nintendo makes."
Sure people do, you're one of them.

All while defending Sony's mistakes in other articles over them deceiving people over pre-orders, PS5 exclusivity and charging $70 for some of their games.

JustTheFax41d ago

Oh you will love the $70 games once nintendo starts charging that much and you will use an excuse like "well it's ok because that means we get larger game carts because ROM chips are expensive and nintendo needs to cover the costs"

Monster_Tard41d ago

Cool story, but it isn't happening.

TheRealTedCruz41d ago

I was going to say exactly what Monster said; you defend and prop up Sony all the time. Apparently calling Nintendo out is fine, but leave your company alone on virtually everything.
I love both companies, but I have no issue calling them out on their BS.

franwex41d ago

Aren’t you throwing a hissy fit right now?

So no. People do realize that Nintendo does mistakes. People threw one at Pokemon too.

Now tell us something nice about Sony, please.

njitram200041d ago

How does no one see the sarcasm in Silly gameAr's comment? Also, wouldn't it make more sense that people who defend Nintendo's crappy practices will also defend Sony's price hike rather than the other way round? This is a matter of people's view on money rather than fanboyism.

franwex41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

I wasn’t sure if he was being sarcastic. But if he was-yes. I would agree with him that these Mario Articles are getting old.

TheRealTedCruz41d ago

It's not sarcasm being he's known to constantly throw shade on Nintendo/MS often, is constantly praising Sony, and always comes to Sony's defense when they pull something that is overtly negative, or objectively anti-consumer.

Tldr he's a known fanboy.

Kids don't care, which is what 99% of the Switch user base is made up of. There is a reason the Switch games line up is full of shovel ware, with only a handful of great games.

RosweeSon41d ago

Paper rounds must have gone up in wages since I was doing one. To be fair that was 20 years ago 😅🤷🏻‍♂️ 😂

keegamer8041d ago

I would really like to know the numbers of the user base. I think late teens to adults might make up 30% of the user base.

TheRealTedCruz41d ago

I'm a Nintendo fan, but this really was lazy. 3 games or not, they really should have put more effort into this for $60.

If this is a package for people to "celebrate" the series, maybe show more than a quick cash grab, yourself.

keegamer8041d ago

About a year ago I seen a nice remake of Mario 64. It was fan made using the Unreal Engine. It was awesome. I think at the very least they could've remastered Super Mario 64. I love the game but, it didn't age well

TheRealTedCruz41d ago

It's hard to justify repurchasing a game from more than a decade ago, at inflated price nonetheless, when emulation offers you better versions for free.

It's as simple as that.

I mean, I bought the 3DS remakes of the N64 Zelda series so I could have them on the go, but they still don't hold a candle to what I'm offered via the emulated versions on PC.
