How Is the Xbox Brand Adapting For the Future?

The gaming industry has changed massively in recent years, and the Xbox brand is changing to embrace that focus on services.

I personally think the first year or 2 will be rough for MS. Once their AAA release and hopefully get 9 scores with gamepass things will look much better for them.

Pretty sure it's focused on their subscription model plans, though they are spreading themselves a bit thin by trying to cover all bases. In the end, it will be based on what peope prioritize. If Games as a Subscription takes off and they can canabalize from the MTX/DLC market, they're great. If it isn't, they might end up where they have been since 2013.

They don't seem to worried about the console part all they are focused on is Gamepass and the Cloud stuff.

Which is forward thinking for it allows Microsoft to save hardware costs along with shipping costs😃 It gets triple the audience. In the end PC may end up as the only hardware device😁

You're doing that thing that Xbox fans do where they assume that whatever MS is doing singlehandedly defines where the industry as a whole is heading. Meanwhile, back and Earth, Sony and Nintendo don't seem to be transitioning their brand towards being a service. Sure, their consoles have services, and will continue to do so, but they're first and foremost about selling hardware with top-notch games. Why can't MS grasp that concept?

I agree. Nintendo does have Saas, but it is in the form of a retro console. I believe cloyd is the future. Where it takes 4 hours to do a Modern Warefare update, cloud is needed. Pretty soon Gamepass or services like it will be built into tv's. It might not be the only way, but it will be where the majority of ppl flock. ppl enjoy convenience

By continuing to convince gullible people that they singlehandedly define the future of gaming, and putting more of their eggs in the service basket to augment their bottom line in lieu of at least a good half of the hardware sales that their competitors enjoy.

Microsoft is not defining the future but what they are doing is what Netflix started and succeeded. When it comes to TV shows and movies 80-90% stream it. E-books are all the rate right now. Microsoft realized it was foolish to continue with console hardware for it will never catch up nor on par with PC hardware. Second, smart TVs hardware is as good as a console. The idea of a service on every hardware device is very appealing to Microsoft.....

I'm sure it is. Xbox consoles do ok in sales, but they're probably not doing as well as MS would hope. They probably see more dollar signs elsewhere. But, that they don't see much of a future in consoles can be largely attributed to the fact that they themselves can only achieve so much success and revenue from them.

They're absolutely justified in trying their hand at new options that open up, but let's be clear that it's first and foremost the future of their brand that they're setting the stage for, not that of the industry as a whole, which includes two other console manufacturers who have had far more success and don't seem to mind the console market so much.

Ok, let's just say you are correct. There can be no argument that Sony "beat" Microsoft in this last console generation. Are you suggesting that they just lay down and do the same thing this gen? That doesn't make any sense. If you are getting beat at something, you go back to the drawing board and try to figure out a different way. That is what MS is doing. Will it work? Time will tell. I just don't understand all of the hate towards them trying something new. If you don't like the model they are proposing, by all means don't buy it. Most of the negativity thrown towards MS (I am not necessarily including you comment in this) comes from people who long ago made up their minds.
