Assassin's Creed for a New Era?

During the taping of Bonus Round, Pachter let slip that Ubisoft would be changing the time-frame of the unannounced-but-inevitable Assassin's Creed sequel from 1191 to "several hundred years in the future" or more specifically, "sometime in the 1700s." While the time change was presented by Pachter as fact, he went on to speculate that the French Revolution could be a potential setting

They need to change something. Doing the same things over and over is BOOOOOORING.

Lucreto5679d ago

I enjoyed Assassins creed. It was one of my favourite games this gen.

I play a lot of games with random battles so I used to repetitive nature.

TheColbertinator5679d ago

@Lucreto

Same here.I look forward to the next AC game

Lucreto5679d ago

So it is set in the 1700 hundreds... could be interesting.

You are an assassin and a group of soldiers walk by and you hide in a dark ally and make a small noise. It gets the attention of a soldier and they investigate. They gets assassinated and you steal the uniform and rejoin the soldiers and use the uniform to sneak up on the target.

Or hide in a merchants cart until you get into town and escape into the alleyways.

SixTwoTwo5679d ago

I loved AC and I'm looking forward to AC2

Traveler5679d ago

I, too, loved Assassin's Creed and can't wait for the sequel. I think the plot allows them to take the setting almost anywhere they want. It would be cool if they took it somewhere completely different.

Bubble Buddy5679d ago

More variety for missions, better AI, different maps that you can interact with, PUT A SKIP BUTTON FOR THE CUTSCENES, and I would definitely purchase it

5679d ago
Dark General5679d ago

Couldn't agree more. The only things i can say for sure that they should do for the sequel. The A.I didn't really ramp up until the last 3 assassinations. Better variety in missions would be a huge welcome as well. But they need to keep the social commentary about the times in there as well. i think that might have been one of the most overlooked things about the side missions was the social commentary about the times back then.

I agree with you too arrrgh. People overlook quite abit about Assassins Creed.

Ice2ms5679d ago

1700s would be (cool muskets and stuff < knives though IMO) Really loved Assassins Creed got the collectors edition game and art book really loved the game..

Tomdc5679d ago

All I can say is...

Viva La Revolution!!!!

Danja5679d ago

wow I remembered when the game was 1st released the hate towards it on N4G was sickening...nice to see alot of ppl could look past the flaws and appreciate the game for what it attempted to do..

Im just really excited to see what become of Desmond...and how they can better the story and in what direction they take it in..

and better A.I...and more variety in missions and better battle system would be greatly appreciated...

shovelbum5679d ago

I loved the first game and actually never tired of the repetition but I understand how some could. I would hope for more variation in missions though in the next one. The game was a welcome deviation from the norm. If the sequel occurs during the French Revolution I'd say it'd revolve around the church and its failed attempts to keep power from transferring to the state. Like AC the possibilities are endless for the timeframe.

ThanatosDMC5679d ago

Jade Raymond will advertise this like free pancakes in the morning!

I liked the first one but i agree that it got boring and i became godlike with the dodge then one hit kill attack. I wish they added random quests that always pop out. Heck, even add money and buying items would be nice.

I did like killing that stupid lady that keeps on begging you for food or money since she gets in the way and will throw a rock at you if you climb a building.

Dark General5679d ago

I got tempted t assassinate her a few times.... Once i did though because she bumped into me while trying to do one of those flag speed runs. I was PISSED. I usually ended up pounding those retarded dudes into oblivion though.

morganfell5679d ago

Why should they limit themselves to Paris or even all of France. There were assassin's traveling all of Europe at that time. They could really go big and pick major cities of Europe rather than cities in on country.

InMyOpinion5679d ago

Or make it a franchise, like CSI. Assassin's Creed: London, Assassin's Creed: Moscow and Assassin's Creed: Hamburg perhaps?

Bigbangbing5679d ago

:"(

i want my old Altair with the Awesome Outfit :"(

not Altair "wearing a powdered wig and being all “sacrebleu!”"

hay5679d ago

Lol, bubbles for the laughs mate

The Matrix5679d ago

Assassin's Creed one of the greatest storylines of all time. I loved the ending as well. People are used to getting what they want but AC had an ending that is yes a cliffhanger but leaves a ton of room for your imagination. Now would we still be remembering AC right now if they had given us a cotton candy conclusion? No, the ending was awesome no matter what anyone says.

ThanatosDMC5679d ago

Love the ending too... it was completely different from what i had expected it wasnt cliche and it was the best FU of all time. Different that was very well done.

bokharij5678d ago

Maybe they'll make it a costume. Or maybe some how because of the peaces of Edin Altair will be the main character because he now lives forever. Come on the box art had Altair written all over it, he should definitively return with his original outfit or it won't be a proper sequel. Altair was Assassin's Creed and it was awesome.

Wasnt the timeframe actually like 2050 or something? I mean using a computer simulation that displays a few hundred years later still doesnt make the game actually take place in that era.

We know the AC game is Sci-Fi based, so setting the game anytime before the present is acceptable. However, I could've sworn that I heard something about you controlling Desmond in AC2, but with Altair's abilities since Desmond was able to sync 100% and gain Eagle Vision.

Food for thought.

Dark General5679d ago

See that's the thing i don't think he's synced %100 yet. I think it'll be a gradual thing and by the time the (inevitable) 3rd game in the series comes out then you'll be able to play as desmond himself. My guess is that abstergo (or however you spell it) will try to find the remaining missing pieces by further following Desmonds lineage. Some other big plot points will unfold etc leading up to increased syncing with his past relatives.

You guys do remember that he KNEW he came from the assassins but he didn't want to follow how they lived. Which is why he broke free and lived by himself in the beginning. I think things that's happening will only inspire him to maybe try to change things whats happening around him. Information control etc.

the first AC was based around 2012, keep in mind the timeline in the game takes a turn from our own. its like the FMA series what if this happened. ya know. the myans said the world would end *the 13th world i think*. well the thing is that he needs to stop these people from collecting the artifacts. if they get a hold of the one altiar "master" had they could control poeple. they also have a satilite system going up right on the date of the myan calander ending*give or take a day or two*. so they plan to use the artifact to brainwash the people of the world and have complete control. a perfect sociaty.

Can We Finally Admit Assassin's Creed 3 Deserves an Apology?

AC3 was released during a turbulent transition period for Ubisoft and the Assassin's Creed series. It ventured into uncharted territory, narratively and mechanically, which caused it to receive mixed reviews. At its core, though, it's a damn good stealth game.

Nope, I hated 3, connar was bland, literally the most flat character in the entire game. Not to mention to myriad of bugs, camera issues, and that annoying thing where he automatically ditches his weapon you payed for for the sake of a cool finishing move forcing you to trek back to your base after almost every encounter just to re-equip your own weapon. It just didn't work as fluidly as the others like 2 and 4

Samonuske247d ago

The series peaked at AC3 for me. It’s been my favourite in the series. Connor will always be one of my favourite video game protagonists.

Becuzisaid247d ago

No. Game was BORING. Connor was really dull. Environments, while impressive, because of the geographic location and time period were not really exciting to be in. I would love some kind of game set in there colonial American time period, but a game like AC that back then centered around parkour and vertical traversal really didn't fit those environments.

-Foxtrot247d ago

Nope

There was a lot of issues but mine is how they handled the war

They told us Connor was not going to get involved, that the war was more of a background setting for the real story and it wasn’t going to be one sided

They lied, even the cinematic E3 trailer showed Connor emerge from the Colonist side and slaughter the red coats to get to his target, inspiring the Colonists to fight back

I just thought it would have made more sense lore wise that the red coats were mostly compiled of Assassins fighting the Colonist templars who wanted to take the new world for themselves.

Since the Red coats lost the war, it would then explain how the Templars started to gain the upper hand and how on the future the assassins were mostly killed off and the Templar’s had pretty much taken over everything.

Instead it just felt like they didn’t want to p*** off the American audience

Even Haytham was cool, he should have been an Assassin through and through and should have been the main lead.

toxic-inferno246d ago

The game even seems to lack the humour of the other games. It almost seems as though the idea of even slightly making fun of American history wouldn't be acceptable.

-Foxtrot246d ago

Exactly

It just felt super safe

“Better not make the colonists look super bad incase people boycott our game”

jeromeface246d ago

someone missed the whole point

-Foxtrot246d ago

There was literally no point

What I've just said above would at least make sense lore wise and why the Assassins start to loose their war, die off and how the Templars are in control in the future of almost everything....what they did was just, pointless

CrimsonWing69247d ago

I’m one one of those weird people that liked Ass Creed 3, but to be fair I never got around to finishing it.

GhostScholar258d ago (Edited 258d ago )

I disagree that max is unlikable. Chloe is infinitely more unlikable in my opinion.

gold_drake257d ago

omg chloe was awful. i really hated her at the end haha

Cacabunga257d ago

Abby was absolute trash protagonist in every way..
Tidus was so meh to me..
On villain side, the one i didn’t like wa Micah, because they wanted him to be that way and it was brilliant👍🏽

Rancegamerx257d ago

I agree, I liked Max, Chloe was a horrible friend and a bad influence.

Cacabunga257d ago

Everyone agrees on chloe, I’m sure even ND do.

H9257d ago

Both are horrible, granted Chloe is infinitely worse, it feels like Chloe is just fanservice for people who too over the edge and wasn't written to be a character that makes sense

GooGobbler258d ago

What about that Forspoken Tw*t

MrChow666257d ago

exactly I was expecting it to be a the top of the list

ravens52257d ago

Ye I was expecting her too. Guess they actually played the game. Unlike you and whoever agrees.

gpimlott256d ago

I played through the whole game and think she is one of the worst character Ive ever played as

ravens52256d ago (Edited 256d ago )

gpimlott. How?

Stanjara246d ago

Why would I payed and played the game if the whole internet is making fun of a character?

-Im here to kill Chaos...are you Chaos?

Yeah, I didn't play that game either.

Christopher257d ago (Edited 257d ago )

She's actually not bad. It's the writing itself that is bad overall, but she's fine overall. She's no worse than Miles Morales IMHO. Both thrust into a spotlight and receiving both praise and blame and dealing with it.

Forspoken is a bland game because it's 75% bland, boring, repetitive going through the motions and diversions that add nothing of the value with purposefully gated memory moments that don't feel organic or like you're discovering things but waiting for others to reveal things.

ravens52257d ago

Exactly Chris. Even though I liked the game. I kno u played it. People who actually played it and went thru her dream saw she was a good likeable person who really just acted out due to being alone and unloved. I think your problem is it was open world, I think if it was more linear you may have liked it better.

savedsynner257d ago

Oh no she's bad. Very unlikable even before you add on the bad dialogue. The game could have been quite good with a good protagonist

ravens52256d ago

For all the people like synner. Shes actually half white lol. Inferior complexity is a hell of a thing. You'll be ok.

Nerdmaster257d ago

Most of these aren't even that bad. Especially comparing to others like Squall "Whatever" Leonhart, Forspoken's Frey, and the guy from Atomic Heart.

-Foxtrot257d ago

Squall is one of the best developed main FF characters so...

People talk about his "whatever" thing thats at the start of the game, not the character he eventually becomes in the end.

Nerdmaster257d ago

No amount of "character development", (especially the ones that for me feels sudden and undeserved like Squall's), will justify him being a d**k to my girl Quistis. Even if he found the cure for cancer, from that moment on, I would never like him.
The article is about being unlikeable, and he was indeed unlikeable for at least half of the game.

BrainSyphoned257d ago

Squall is the best protagonists in FF so you can go whatever yourself.

H9257d ago

My good sir, I need to steal that "you can go whatever yourself" because it's gold

BlaqMagiq1257d ago

Except Squall has actual character development.

gold_drake257d ago (Edited 257d ago )

the "watever" is only present in the english localisation.
so your argument doesnt rly ... stand imo.

Nerdmaster257d ago

Good for you that you could enjoy the japanese version. That's not the case for me and the majority of people here, though.
