Square Enix Allegedly Demand Pan-European Rating for Avengers

In a recent blog post, Chief Editor of European publication GameReactor reveals that Square Enix have requested a universal review for The Avengers. The will require the same written review and score to be published by all of their European outlets, bringing into question the influence that triple A developers have on the editorial press.

UPDATE - Note that the blog post noting the behaviour from Square Enix has since been deleted. We have included a screen shot of the original post below, and a link to the google cache. Reader discretion is advised.

Square Enix cannot dictate how a publication handles its reviews. That's not how it works.

Uh that is exactly how it works. Square just has aggressively sunk its teeth into this game for some reason.

They can if they put out early review copies. They already do with embargo dates, which are practical a lot of the times, and not really meant to keep reviews out of the way. If the sites don't want to agree to the terms of the publisher, they can wait to buy the game when it releases.

Not that I agree with that, but that's how things are right now.

publishers have been doing this and getting away with it for some time now. Its quite silly because it doesnt influence sales very much at all. You want to influence people, pay streamers to pretend they like it, kind of like ARK.

A post to generate hits, got the wrong kind of attention and got someone in trouble so they had to delete it?

Because the game is tripe and they don't want to lose a bunch of money.

While we talk about unified european reviews....
I would welcome a none economy driven european rating system. One that puts an R-Rating on every game that includes any kind of microtransactions within the gameclient or the pure audacity to offer 99.99€ ingame currency packs.
