In hindsight I think this would have been the smarter move. As much as I enjoyed the Wii for what it was--it seemed to have put Nintendo in a game of catch-up with Sony and Microsoft, especially in regards to graphics and online gaming. Despite the success of the Switch (a system I really like), Nintendo still hasn't caught up in those two areas.

Double_O_Revan1481d ago

Nintendo are so behind in online gaming only because of their own stubbornness and lack of caring to integrate into an online world. They don't even try for the most part. As for graphics, Nintendo stopped trying to compete years ago and would rather make unique experience games that don't rely on heavy power. The Switch isn't that powerful, but it's a great piece of hardware. They wouldn't be able to make it portable or as small if they tried to make it stronger.

cyclindk1480d ago

Well, they could easily make a top notch powerful portable console, just not for 300.00...

Nintendo gave up on the top end tech after N64 once ps2 happened Nintendo went a different route hence GameCube launched day1 for £130!! 😍🙌🏻 28514; wii was underpowered still done them no wrong tho their first console to clear 100 million think they’ll be alright with how it’s gone. Wii U did Dreamcast numbers but now switch is smashing and gonna do wii numbers again so 🤷🏻‍♂️🤓 ✌🏻😂 agree the online needs to catch up and Nintendo are old school but they in their own battle always innovating always got time for Nintendo 🤓✌🏻😜

Edgelordsupreme1480d ago

The GameCube was considerably more powerful than the PS2.

Sirk7x1480d ago

Gamecube was much more powerful than the PS2.

RosweeSon1480d ago

Edgelordsupreme and Sirk7K I never knew that haha. Shows how much I care about the power side of things I thought they were on par but yeah GameCube slightly faster. Still was a cheap console they weren’t going for top end tech.

RaidenBlack1480d ago

Yeah ... I was put off by the motion controls and low resolution output of the Wii .

whitbyfox1480d ago

Nintendo are so far ahead that it’s funny to read the other 2 comments claiming otherwise.

RosweeSon1480d ago

Nintendo introduced for the mainstream. Shoulder buttons, rumble, analogue, touchscreens, motion controls yeah soooo behind. Not being 60 FPS doesn’t make you behind it makes you lower resolution. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷 🏻‍♂️😂

Nintendo always innovates, everyone else follows

DON'T FORGET virtual boy yes it was TOO early tech could not do VIRTUAL reality 25 years ago but they tried and it cost $549 in old money ! OUCH that was like 1200 now. Recently though they are behind yes a SWITCH is 888 gigaflops and xbox 360 was only 240 gigaflops. But now PS4 base is 1,420 gigaflops (or 1.42 teraflops) SWITCH is behind current gen. But if they ever go back to the arms race (and they can with 30 BILLION dollars in cash on hand). They have Nvidia and ARM behind them. Can you imagine them in the arms race again with Nvidia? They would not even need a rtx3070 they can win with the rumored even lower end rtx 3060 GPU card..

Knightofelemia1480d ago (Edited 1480d ago )

Was hoping this was for a Gamecube Mini

Inverno1480d ago

I would've bought that faster than the switch tbh. An even smaller Gamecube? Maybe palm sized would've been the coolest thing ever. Would be the kind of tech you take around with you to show off. There are youtubers that have shrunk the Wii to the size of a gameboy, and I think thats just flippin amazing

Italy's Crackdown on Counterfeit Retro Consoles Highlights Industry Failures in Game Preservation

Even if they do crack down all a person needs is an Everdrive and a regular old school machine. Or modify a disc based console that has a dead laser to boot off an SD card. Some of those illegal devices look neat and some of them are just plain crap.

XiNatsuDragnel8d ago

This won't stop it unless you have a great service.

Inverno7d ago

What a stupid thing to be wasting time, money and effort. Aren't these guys literally drowning right now? Maybe y'all should focus more on that instead trying to stop people from playing old games no longer being sold.

Inverno7d ago

Pretty sure I've read and seen parts of Italy experiences/ing pretty bad floodings. Id argue that's more important than trying to prevent the sale of emulation devices.
