What Is The Selling Point Of The Xbox Series X This Fall?

For one console in particular, there’s one question that it needs to answer. Why should people spend $500-600 on an Xbox Series X this fall?

ArchangelMike1333d ago

Ooh.... I know this one... is it... Game Pass?

chrisx1333d ago

For non Xbox fans, there is zero, zip, nothing that stands out as a reason to get series x.

Mr Pumblechook1333d ago

I have an Xbox One X with Game Pass. If I spend, maybe, £500+ for an Xbox Series X there will be no exclusive games for it. I will be able to play some third party games like CoD and AC Valhalla over my Xbox One X. It will be a bit better but is really £500 better? Just ONE exclusive would have helped the cause.

This year has been hard on me financially and I'm not sure yet if I will buy both consoles. What I'm thinking is if I get the PS5 there will at least be Spider-Man, Ratchet & Clank and Demon Souls. I can then buy the Series X when the first exclusive like Fable comes out.

4U2NV1333d ago

This is definitely the issue for me. I like to own all consoles always have done since nes and master system days, but that tradition stopped with xbox one,
tbf i bought one not long after release then sold it, before giving them another chance by managing to get another pretty cheap only to be even more disappointed it. It never got used and the ps4 with its exclusives is what kept me occupied to the point i no longer needed it so i sold it again and have zero regrets. I no longer bother or care about the xbox no more which may sound sad but its all microsofts doing im afraid.

Sitdown1333d ago

Why do people take their opinion and try to state it as fact? Some people like to have the latest consoles available, and that alone is enough reason. Some console gamers want to play the Xbox games in the best available way. And believe it or not, there are some games that have already been announced only for Series X and PC.

Parasyte1333d ago

Especially if you already have a capable gaming PC.

bouzebbal1333d ago

The name is enough to make fanboys go crazy..
And xbox said it has a launch lineup of over 1000games..

fathertime44641333d ago

More power, better graphics, same shit different generation. Same goes for ps5. Let's face facts only Rachel and clank needs a next gen machine, and that's only for the ssd. Everything else could be played on a ps4. The only thing we're getting for either console right now is faster and prettier games

RgR1333d ago

I beg to differ.
I think even for Xbox fans, which I still am, if only hanging by a thread.

Unfortunately Microsoft hasn't brought any big guns to the series x lineup. Maybe halo but unlike with ps5 it has to work on previous gen hardware...the weakest hardware of current gen.

LoveSpuds1333d ago

@Mr Pumblechook
Sounds like a rational position dude. Sorry to hear you have been hit by all the problems 2020 has brought, hope you come through the other side quickly.

dumahim1333d ago

I've always gotten the Xbox right away, but this time around I'm just going to wait. There's just no point right now.

DarXyde1333d ago

You know... imagine that.

If you buy this thing at launch knowing you're not getting anything you can't get on Xbox One, you're basically buying an Xbox One X *X* that will eventually have its own games.

Assuming there are no other huge games available for launch (we don't know everything yet, if I recall) it would probably be a good idea to delay. I love PS4 and the game delays were at times difficult and frustrating, but I'm always happy to experience these games in their best form.

The decision to delay Halo Infinite is very commendable and I respect them for that. I would strongly advise delaying the Series models until 1 or 2 must have titles come around.

Unspoken1333d ago

Dumb question with even more asinine answers.

Here's a better question and analogy
What is the new Ford GT's selling point?

It looks better, handles better, and drives faster than the Honda Civic SI (PS5). Just make sure you put the right fuel (games) in it. :)

But no seriously the games shown already have my intrigued. If you are a PC owner then maybe hold off as the games are coming to Windows.

PlayStation owners are stuck with praising mediocre games in their echo chamber.

Rhythmattic1333d ago (Edited 1333d ago )

Unspoken....

Yep... your username says it all... just drivel......

darthv721333d ago

@chris, you dont have to be an xbox fan to appreciate the special feeling of getting new hardware. Its like getting a new car. You have to think, why do people buy new cars when their existing one does the same thing? You get in and drive from place to place but sometimes people just want something new. So... they buy a new car. And with it comes that new car smell and figuring out all the little gizmos and gadgets.

New consoles only come around every 5-7 years, not like cars which are every year. People have their own time frame of when they feel it is right for them to just buy something new. This is that time and I cant wait to drive one of these SX off the lot.

Donnie811333d ago

Far superior versions of multiplats is a great selling point. If devs do their jobs there will be a BIG difference. Performance is gonna be a much bigger deal this generation especially with Sony bringing everything to pc. Anyone see this ?
https://www.rockpapershotgu...

Unspoken1333d ago

Now with the new RTX out there is no reason to buy either as it smashes both. Good luck and enjoy your games folks!

Xavi4K1333d ago

being the most powerful console for multi plats =) there I gave you a reason a valid one too

cloganart1332d ago

I have to agree. After Xbox 360 Microsoft had nothing to offer me personally. Now THAT was a great generation for Xbox.

Mr Pumblechook1332d ago

@LoveSpuds Thanks for the concern fella, I hope you're well too. It hasn't been the best year for multiple reasons, but everyone has their own challenges, things could be worst. I'm just looking forward to Autumn and then Christmas, hopefully with at least one new console.

chicken_in_the_corn1332d ago

@chrisx

I've always had Playstations but backwards compatibility is making me want a Series X

But you don't actually need an Xbox, not the newest one, to access Gamepass. Once they put it on iOS - maybe Apple considering them - their console is pretty much moot.

gamer78041333d ago (Edited 1333d ago )

That’s a bonus, like xcloud, but the main reason is that third party games will look better overall on series x. Can’t wait for cyberpunk!

XBManiac1333d ago

Asus RTX 30x0 Series X, do you mean?

BQ321333d ago

Even though the series X has technical spec advantage I am not convinced that will be the case at all especially early gen. It seems that the ps5 has catered everything with the ease of development in mind and there is probably a reason almost all next gen 3rd party gameplay has been shown on the ps5 to this point. It wouldn't surprise me at all if games actually run better out of the gates on the PS5

RgR1333d ago

You mean more or less and possibly.

gamer78041333d ago (Edited 1333d ago )

@SirBruce sorry should have clarified that talking about consoles, specifically xbox, for the big screen (in my case multiple same room screens), large scale surround sound in the living room.

ArchangelMike1333d ago

3rd parties... really? You do know that the 1X had the power advantage this gen as well right? How much good did it do Microsoft in the end?

You have to know that you're on the losing side of history, when your best argument is 3rd party multiplat games.

gamer78041333d ago

@archanglemike i have an X and it was like a generational leap. I had a hard time playing on my original xbox one or my ps4 after that. It moved some sales and third party purchases but not nearly enough to catch up to ps4 at all, but that wasn't my point, my point is the gamer experience, not the shareholder experience.

F0XH0UND9221332d ago

Sorry dude, the differences in multiplatform games will basically non-existent, just like with PS4 Pro and X1X

gamer78041332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

@foxhound there is a huge difference when playing on the X. Do you have one? I agree with the pspro there want much of a difference but I’ll come back and say I was wrong for sure if that’s the case , but we’ll see tangible differences again I’m sure of it with only a handful of unoptimized outliers.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen1332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

RTX 2060 - 2070 laptops run around $1000 right now. In less than a year, you'll be able to get one for $800 and it will perform on the same level as Series X and run Gamepass and every Xbox game for the next 7 to 10 years.

That's my plan so that I can enjoy more games on different platforms.

gamer78041332d ago

@igivehugs2nakedwomen great if that’s what you want to do, I need two consoles that would save me 1000$. That’s a lot and I’m doubtful a 1k laptop will let you play games at the same level. Also want to play on the big screen easily at 4K.

XBManiac1333d ago (Edited 1333d ago )

Don't think so... you can play the same games from Game Pass on your smartphone, Samsung TV with no console attached, PC... xCloud is included, remember. A winners combo can be to pay for a PS5 with exclusives and get that 1$ Game Pass for the games that you want to play, so you can have the best of both worlds... and, when the promo is finished, you only need to pay 1$ again for another promotion, with a new account. If you want your achievements, link it to your old one and... bingo, Game Pass cheap, legal and everywhere.

lelo2play1333d ago

I find it amusing that, nowadays, all Playstation gamers have powerful PC's to play Xbox games.

RosweeSon1333d ago

Nah. Don’t like Xbox currently so why would I wanna PC pretty much same thing to play the games that don’t interest me hence I sold my Xbox S after 4 months this gen. I’m not about resolutions or upgrading my hardware every 12-18 months I’m about games and currently it’s Sony and Nintendo (ok Nintendo are MIA currently but they will be brewing up something, Pikmin3 and BOTW2 for starters) hence all Sony games are being lapped up on PC 2-3 years after launch. It’s fine enjoy them doesn’t bother me in slightest they go to PC I get them first on PlayStation normally a solid year before. Next Xbox is obsolete on arrival for me it won’t get used I got a 360 I did all the top Xbox exclusives this gen I wanted to (except FH4 and gears 5 but did FH3 and gears 4 so 🤷🏻‍♂️) not to mention being a series of consoles I give it literally 12-18 months max tho next gen proper games start arriving oh here’s the newer more powerful console 😑 already. No thanks. So no not ALL PlayStation gamers own a PC I’d say it’s barely 50% if the Xbox games start getting really good I’ll play through my phone or get a cheap current gen model.

ArchangelMike1333d ago

Nope, not true at all. You pulled that one straight out of your backside.

rainslacker1333d ago (Edited 1333d ago )

I'm a PS gamer, I have a PC, and I still don't really want to play Xbox games....either on my PC, or my X1. They just don't have that many interesting ones.

But that's just me.

I have the option there should MS release something I want....like MSFS....but beyond that, MS is just another software publisher to me nowadays, who I criticize because I brought into Spencer's BS when he first took over, and I feel he should be held accountable for the disappointment that he's brought this generation.

Unspoken1332d ago

I believe the Xbox is there is provide an alternative to non PC gamers. If you have a PC then you can play on Windows. So MS doesn't need to target PC owners with the Xbox.

I think people should talk about this and ask the question differently....

What is the most anticipated game this Holiday?

My answer is CyberPunk 2077.

I don't need to pay $499-$549 for a new console to play it because it doesn't have a version for the next gen consoles yet. And there doesn't appear to be a single GOTY candidate at new console launch.

I will pass on both consoles until there is some "must play" game on them.

rainslacker1333d ago

I heard its because the cloud will finally be a thing worth talking about in another 4-5 years.

Homushi1332d ago

you may joke about it but honestly Gamepass is absolutely the best value in gaming so far. hundreds of games you can just download and play for $5? can Sony match that deal? They haven't so far, but I hope they do. xbox has two really strong features going for it that will make it successful for the long term: 1) full Backwards compatibility of xbox games library which is really nice out of the box, and 2) gamepass which is as mentioned above, is amazing value for us.

now I personally won't be getting xbox series x because I have a really great gaming PC and gamepass, so all xbox first party titles, I will get from day 1 on GP, which is awesome. But I do wish the console games like NieR or KH3 could be included for PC gamepass too, because I can at least plug in controller to make it work.

Z5011332d ago

Value is subjective.
I see more value in owning my games then I do renting my games.

kreate1332d ago

The reason to buy the next Xbox is the same reason ppl bought the Xbox one, Xbox S, and Xbox X.

NEVMOR1332d ago

You don't need a Series X for Game Pass.

devsmith1011332d ago

Invalid reason when literally all you need is a PC with game pass. No reason for an Xbox this generation.

S2Killinit1332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

They are running a console business like its a insurance business. They need to focus on being a part of the gaming habitat and stop trying to find financial/strategic means of achieving complete dominance. They keep looking for a cash cow instead of focusing on creating content. Imo

Its bad for gamers, its bad for consoles, and its bad for MS, at least so far (thank god for that)

NeoGamer2321332d ago

To be fair the content is improving the 365 days.

Flight Simulator when it ships on XB is a 90+ game on PC
Gears Tactics when it ships on XB is another 80+ game on PC
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a 90+ game
Minecraft Dungeons has its flaws but it also has a lot of potential
Bleeding Edge was garbage
Wasteland 3 is 85+ for XB and PC (81 for PS4)
Outer Worlds Worlds is 85+ on Metacritic

Yes, you can argue about the exclusivity, who developed the games, and who published them, but they were all MS bannered and funded games so it doesn't look like content is much of a problem this past year of releases. Also, what I like about this list is that it is diverse. It is not just shooter games or action-adventure games It is a simulator, a turn based RTS, a platformer, a dungeon crawler, a RPG, and a MP brawler.

Just as people are unfairly living in the past and missing what Sony has done to improve PSNow, I think a lot of people are living in the past about MS first party games.

S2Killinit1332d ago

@Neogamer
I agree. I need to see them make a true commitment to creating and i would love it if they did a 180 and went back to keeping their games on xbox as long as possible. Focus on console gaming and the players will come back.

isarai1333d ago

I mean joking aside, convenience. Although there's not much there either since you can just buy an XBO/XB1X for a lot cheaper and play the same games, at least for the first couple years.

Otherwise there's like, the very marginal improvement it'll bring you over the X? Not sure if that's worth several hundreds of dollars more, but to each their own i guess.

fathertime44641332d ago

Not all the games are on xbox one/x. The medium and scorn are next gen only.
Man y'all people are so miss informed! There are series x exclusive games, they're just third party right now. And let's face facts its Microsoft, there will only be 2-4 games that are cross gen before they're series what ever only.
This whole narrative that you need next gen only is dumb as hell. The only next gen game is ratchet and clank. Every other game except for a handful of third party games could all be played on a ps4 and x1. Yes that includes the new spider-man

isarai1332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

I didn't bring 3rd parties into consideration because i figured everyone already knew so it didn't need clarification. Not to mention if we're talking 3rd parties, they're also mostly on PS5 aswell so still, not really a good argument in favor of the XSX.

Also there's already a few games that cannot run on current gen (like medium), and whether or not Spider-Man, Horizon FW, Demon's Souls, etc will be one of those that take full advantage of the new SSD/CPU has yet to be seen, so you have no substance to back your claim.

r2oB1332d ago

Spider-Man: Miles Morales has ray tracing, so you are incorrect in saying it could run on PS4, nice try though. Selling points for the Series X are also selling points for other platforms. Whether it’s next gen games like The Medium and Scorn that can also be played on PC, or cross gen titles that are also coming to XB1, or next gen multiplats which are coming to PS5. There really isn’t a single game that requires a Series X to play, for better or worse.

fathertime44641332d ago

@r2ob
Yeah the dev turns ray tracing off and BAAM spider_man is now a ps4 game.
Y'all ps fans are either just ignorant about how this crap really works, or you just play stupid just to justify your next 500 purchase.
I'm going to guess the latter because there's no way in hell all of you ps guys are as moronic as Y'all make yourselves out to be

r2oB1332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

@ fathertime4464

That logic is dumb, and can be applied to any game. Take out ray tracing, lower the resolution, lower the frames, use lower res textures, etc. and BAAM any next gen game is now a PS3/Xbox 360 game. Wait, let’s take out more features and make them PS2/OG Xbox games. The purpose of a next gen game is to utilize features not possible in prior generations. In the case of Spider-Man, it’s utilizing ray tracing and the SSD of the PS5 among other things, in order to enhance the experience.

You are either just ignorant on the matter or just playing stupid to justify your absurd argument. I’m going to guess the latter because there is no way in hell you are as moronic as you’re making yourself out to be. ;)

fathertime44641332d ago

@r2ob
Spider_man doesn't look any better than the previous one with the exception of the ray tracing.
You are the one making an obscure argument. Current gen wouldn't work like that with ps3/360 or the ps2. We're going from x86 to x86. Thats why its possible to turn off ray tracing and make it work on a ps4. It doesn't need the ssd to work its the same exact game design as the previous one. It only needs the ssd to make the fast travel fast.
The new consoles and current ones are just mildly custom PC's and due to that fact they have the scalability of a pc.
By your logic pc gamers would have to upgrade their rigs every 8 months instead of every few years.
Make what ever excuses you want, delude yourself all you need, but for anything other than graphics and frame rates the need for both next gen games really isn't there yet as far as game design with the exception of ratchet and clank and the medium

Christopher1333d ago

gamer78041333d ago

def a problem on both sides really, they are both holding prices and some games to the last minute in a game of chicken, makes it annoying for consumers unless we get lower prices out of it.

Review - Zombies, Aliens and Guns (Xbox Series S/X) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "Zombies, Aliens and Guns is probably one of the least ambitious and memorable games I’ve ever played, but oddly enough, it was far from being bad. It fulfilled its reason to exist, which was to distract me for about two hours in a Thursday afternoon, entertaining me with its accessible controls, easygoing level of difficulty, and easy achievements. I played it, beat it, had a bit of fun with it, and will now probably forget about its existence. There’s nothing wrong about being competent but largely disposable. This is the equivalent of grabbing a tasty but unmemorable hamburger on a discount in a fast food joint."
