I love haptic feedback but just FYI the 3D audio is basically like Dolby atmos. (Which honestly I don’t like the fake effect so I usually turn it off ). Dolby atmos supports hundreds of simultaneous sounds which Dolby corrected Cerny when he tried to claim that it didn’t.

Can not wait. Bring it Sony. I have always been hyped for the next Sony Playstation, but this one feels even more so. I cant explain it but it kind of feels like the first time I saw playstation in 1996, just super excited to own one. Wish they would revive the "U R not (red) E" slogan.

The 3D audio Sony is developing is not basically Dolby Atmos. Atmos is not binaural or even intended for headphones. Atmos is not fake either unless you are applying it to stereo speakers (not headphones).

I think Cerny was saying they could not Atmos because out of the available receivers most can only support up to 32 sources and he needs to full support. Also the binaural rendering is in its infancy of development and Sony needed a custom approach.

Look at the TLOU2 and ghost both on any other platforms would have been delayed go release alongside next gen but Sony knows how to close generations. Ps2 got GOW2, PS3 got TLOU and PS4 the games I listed above. Sony can break click and views record by simply tweeting a picture of a controller

I understand all that. And if there is a significant price difference, that makes a lot of sense. But regardless of intentions about who the devices are for, if they are only $100 apart, many of the people who would have purchased the Series S will say, "well, I only have a 1080p tv now, but maybe I'll get a 4k tv later, so I may as well get the 4k capable version, especially since it has a disc drive (assuming that rumor of XSS being all digital is true)." Or kids whose parents get them the series S are going to be resentful when they're friends all have series x and they so how much better it is and realize it was only $100 more.

If they were going to hit $399 with XSX, the Series X is a waste of resources (unless they go fully insane and price it under $299). At $399, it would be low enough for the people who already have 4k setups and those yet to upgrade.

PS5 Digital needs to be $100 cheaper than the standard to be compelling. If it's $50 cheaper, everyone will just buy the standard except at launch if it gets sold out and they are "stuck" with the digital version as the only option. And the "well the disc drive costs about $50 to Sony" argument is the least compelling thing I've ever heard. The price difference needs to reflect the perceived benefit to Sony (they need to entice people to all digital so that they get more money from new game sales and the user cannot buy used games, which is worth way more than $50 to them) and the perceived loss of value to the consumer (consumer is not going to care about the cost of parts, but the loss of features represented by the absence of the disc drive). In other words, Sony gains enough value by pushing people towards digital than just the cost of parts saved, and it will be worth it to incentive people as such; meanwhile, the consumer is going to perceive a greater loss in value than the cost of the parts, so they will want to see that reflected.

You have the realize both consoles have the same specs besides a disk drive so no it won't be $100 cheaper in my opinion. They have to look at data and software attach rate. Each console has to sell certain number of games to make profit and not everyone buys games like us core gamers

at the end it mentions random things that the average customer won't know about you mean? Because they didn't explain any of it is the reason for all the fancy stuff before it. I think any casual customer besides people who already have been following this in the news won't even get the message. They barely showed any screen time to the actual tech words and never mentioned them or linked what they can do. A customer who watches this will think it's a ps5 add and assume they mean better things because it's a ps5. Not because there's haptic feedback that simulates surfaces, not because of 3d audio to hear sounds better, and not because of adaptive triggers to feel tension and impact. If they had mentioned those things during the action trailer part at the same time it would have sent the message home.

I understand what you are saying but you have to remember, for the most part, system launches are geared towards early adopters. People like you and me who know we are pre-ordering as soon as we can. It's not intended to target the general population. It's intended to get the Sony base pumped up. In that respect I think it has succeeded. It's a primer for the big news (release date and price).

No one will associate this with the PS5 other than the fact that it says PS5. Sony has always done commercials like this and they are always extremely popular.

Unlike Microsoft with their terrible naming - Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series X ... which looking at the names alone... you'd have no clue which one is a generation leap.

Sony makes it quite clear by keeping it simple. PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5. It isn't hard to know when the generation has changed.

I mean, you'll essentially have a broken version of almost every game you buy, considering basically every game now requires a significant day one patch to get it to its proper state. Days Gone was a pretty notorious example of this, but far from the only one.

I understand this but I like how I can insert a disc, it installs and I can play a single player game while the update downloads in background. My internet speed is sub 5mbps. On Xbox I can’t play a game regardless if it’s a online game or not unless it’s been completely updated.

Nothing pisses me off more than going to play a game and I start it and then it’s like oh you need to update. Oh wait while we download this 15GB update in 2 days.

There are still many people in rural areas with this issue. And with everyone pushing even more 4K I can imagine the downloads and updates will only get bigger in size. They say 5g will change all that but I promise I won’t have 5g at my house for 10 years at least.

usually when there is a game that releases a new update while you are playing, a notification screen pops up that tells you a new update for the game has been released. It gives you an option to download the game now and restart the game or you can download it later. I think.

People will buy the XSX for the slightly better looking multiplats, like with the XB1X. It's not my thing, but I guess it works for some people. But yeah, it's easy to forget that there will be no games that take full advantage of all those teraflops as once MS finally ditches the forced cross-gen tiles, they'll still need their exclusives to run on the XSS, and preferably not "run" on the XSS like someone attempting to bike uphill after months of not doing any kind of cardio.
