Daav Valentaten from NoobFeed writes - Elitism is narrowing the worth of a game, to the point that a sale is becoming more insignificant. Just increasing the amount of times discounts happen isn't even making a difference anymore.
Just when i thought articles on N4G couldn't get any worse.
How can something like this even get approved? I can't believe people are complaining about getting DEALS. Now I've officially lost all hope with this site.
People are not complaining about game sales, just this one wanker.
Maybe we can just consider this comic relief to ease all the tension? Surely this can't be a serious thing to complain about.
Complaing about game sales really.
How dare they give value to the consumer!
Oh no! The people wanting us to give them money are asking us to give LESS for MORE! HOW DARE THEY!
I actually agree - but ONLY because the sales are meaningless. Its the same shit, being "marked down" each week now. And honestly I feel like the prices on these games havent changed in years. Most PSN sales are fun to scroll thru once, realize I own all the games I care about - and verify that everything else was on a different sale last week, for the same price.
This is a pretty good point. Every time a game goes on sale on Steam it gets marked down to the exact same amount, year after year. It's insane.
Welk it sounds lije your like me and buy alot of games so of course the games on sale you already own. I only check sales for certain games now as i own everything i really wanted but thats because i but so many games. Who cares if the sale prices are the same over & over because a cheaper price is a cheaper price. I honestly see different prices on all platforms for games from different sales but again who cares its still a deal.
Thats my point, rather than have a more impressive sale occasionally, I feel like its different sales literally each week - to the point where things aren't actually marked down anymore. The same game that is showing as 85% off at $7, was still $7, 3 years ago lol. Ultimately - I dont care either way. But I just see N4G thrashing the author for an opinion in typical fashion, and I can semi-agree with them in that most game sales are kinda useless now/just noise.
So, it's basically like every other product out there which is on sale from week to week, so they can make it look like a better deal? I can't remember the last time I've seen a full price appliance or TV, even when they're just released. Only time that happens is when the manufacturer controls the pricing. Sales aren't there to save you money, they're there to make you THINK your saving money. It's a perception thing. If the products are always that price then you don't get more perceived value for your purchase.
isthereanydeal.com is likely the biggest reason I still game.
I always visit there before buying PC games. Even if I find a good deal on a site, I check if there's a better one on isthereanydeal.com first, just in case.
Since I have a huge backlog of games I probably will never get around to playing from steam sales and Ps+ I have the freedom to not waste top tier money on games that aren’t worth anyone’s time but still somehow get 8’s. This is also why game pass is doing well. But you’re noobfeed so you don’t know any better. Toxic Elitists reeeeeeee
I still go for games I want but skipped over in the past when I see them cheap enough.....usually the $5-7 range or less. I have a rather extensive digital collection of a lot of the Japanese niche games from later of last gen, and this gen, as I stopped buying all those games day one like I used to. I may never get around to playing them, but I would like to, and never know when the itch will hit me. I'll also pick up physical copies of games I want when they're cheap, but those are typically used from clearances at stores, or garage sale type things.
Slow day, eh?
They have to spice up our Monday morning with a lil bit of trollage
Not from Nintendo
The switch E-Shop is a disgrace. Its so bad that developers have put "sale" prices on their games of a 15cent saving just to keep their game on a splash page for the last 6 months straight. It needs a complete overhaul
This is stupid complaint. Goes to show, some people always need something to complain about. Shame on whoever approved this. I'm going to say this is satire just to troll us.
There Are Way Too Many Opinion Articles.
...who complains about that?
Ley me guess, game sales are now anti consumer because people don't have enough money to buy all the games on sale, so they end up missing out. Not fair to the people that wanted a game but couldn't afford it because they bought another game, now that game isn't on sale anymore and that's not fair to the consumer. Fkn idiots. Just like how exclusives are now anti consumer because the phrase turned up in one sound bite not too long ago. Now people want all games playable across the board. PC heads wanted or rather celebrated hearing that HZD was coming to PC, but since release I've not read one person say anything about the gameplay, seems they only play specs. The times they are a changing.
Some people do get upset when they buy a product, then it goes on sale later. Also true outside games. One advantage of physical games though is that most stores will honor a sale price within a certain date of the original purchase if you paid more.
Yeah that has happened to me too, bought a game and then it went on sale. It happens, you can keep waiting on a sale that may never happen or just bite the bullet. Also true for other things outside games, but to complain about there being too many sales, regardless of this sale price is the sale as last week's sale price is just crazy. Agree about physical games which is way I buy all except tlou2 and GoT as physical disc. It's only due to store closures cause of the corona virus that my last two exclusives were digital, I'm thinking of still buying the physical when possible. Third party games I buy when the price has been reduced and then when on sale, usually after a few sales. My mindset is if I can wait for the game to drop to twenty dollars from sixty, then I can wait some more and see if it gets a lower sale price down the line. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, but I never complain. Sorry for the gibberjabber.
I feel the same. While I'm always willing to spend less, if something is a price that I'm willing to pay, I just pay it and forget it. If it comes cheaper down the line, then it is what it is. If it's something I can price match, I will if it's worth the trouble.
Too many game sales...? That should be a great thing.
There's nothing at all wrong with that, the more sales the better.
Gamers today, never fucking happy "noobfeed" says it all really.
Exactly new age gamers are never happy and just complain about everything while im over here loving gaming on all platforms. I guess im old and just enjoy my hobby.
Been gaming since 1981 and I've never moaned at a game I bought which disapointed me or when game prices went up etc, yet here I am 44 years of age reading a article about too many game sales ffs. Lockdown, protests around the world and now too many game sales wtf has happened to us, we're all doomed haha
noobfeed is actually the dumber version of gamingbolt, and are well known at really trying hard to be like Kotaku and Polygon with their nonsense, but failing more miserably than both those other sites do....which is really a impressive achievement. I've found it kind of hard to fail completely and utterly across the board constantly, so anyone that manages to do it I feel is doing it on purpose, so it becomes impressive in it's own way.
Like really? 😒 fml
"Elitism is narrowing the worth of a game..." What?
Aren't we always complaining how expensive games are, and didn't we all get in an uproar over the idea of games being only $10 more expensive? So then how are game sales bad, now?
there are so many game sales because they sell the games triple the price and when game sales come they sell the games with the actual price, its a scam.
I wouldn't say scams. They're marketing to get you to buy something. I've never seen a sale price that didn't reference the MSRP to say how much your saving, even if that product routinely goes for that price anyways no matter where you go.
Let me fix the headline. We have way too many crappy video game articles.
I got Root Letter, Gal*Gun: Double Peace and Gal*Gun 2 all for dirt cheap during the PSN Summer Sale so I'm not complaining at all
Really liked the Gal*Gun games. Really dumb premise, but rail shooters are so rare nowadays. Think there is a VR version of GG2 now. I think I got the first game for like $5 a long while ago, and ended up buying the 2nd not too long ago for around $15.
“Elitism is narrowing the worth of a game, to the point that a sale is becoming more insignificant.” WTF did I just read? let alone that quote. There are too many noob feeds. Seriously, Please don’t be another one of those.
Too many sales but not for the games I want to play. I would like to see a sale on crosscode, divinity 2, dragon ball fighter pack 3, etc
And this is why game journalism is a joke.
Uh wait what. I guess to get next level, we'll see an article "There are way too many good free AAA games"
I have such a large backlog of unplayed games I don’t pay much attention to the sales
Some of the game sales are not very good. Modern warfare might sound good at 50% off but the base game is almost £50 on PC
These game sales are a blessing to my bank account. I think this entire 8th generation (PC/PS4/Xbox One/Switch) I've only bought maybe 6-8 games full price and everything else has been sales. A lot of games now are also time consuming too which is good because I want to get my full value out of it. Keep in mind standard game prices are going up next generation with PS5/Series X ($69.99), etc. so you now have to be even more picky with the games that you do pick.
You do know you dont have to buy any games on sale what a thing to complain about
Gamers will complain about anything these days. Worst part is, this isn't the worst thing i've seen gamers complain about
So I wonder what the writer prefers...let me guess...no sales and price increase... Lol
That is why we have a gaming Queue. There will always be something to play on one system or another. Get over it.
They are beating the used game curve. And if you are like me, I might start out with a physical copy and then buy the Ultimate Addition digital version heavily discounted later on. And trade or sell the physical copy. At any rate, they make more money selling more copies and DLC.
Who would complain about this!? Are you trying to ruin things for sensible consumers?
Could be because of the pandemic and the increase of sales on indoor entertainment, personally I'm fine with it because it means I don't have to worry about when to buy a game if it comes on sale regularly.
Nope . I like sales . I don’t buy much digital but sometimes I’ll grab a game that’s really good and a few dollars
I don't see this as a problem.
Next article: There are too many porn on Pornhub.
There can't be enough sales, I love them.
I would like to know the processes behind this. I mean all the things that led up to this point...
What an amazing
Australia's EB Games has a perpetual "sale" going on, they cover their stores in ghastly posters to advertise it, yet their "sale" prices always end up higher than JB Hi-Fi's standard prices, especially newer games that they'll advertise for $99 "on special" when JB has it for $69-79. Older games are somehow worst, their default prices almost never go down from the original RRP, they just put it back on "special" again, which once more, is still usually above JB's. It seems the digital industry is following in EB's steps where everyone keeps old games on high original prices & supplements it by frequently putting it on sale instead of steadily lowering it's actual cost. I used to get excited about Steam sales once upon a time, now it just feels like the same kind of ghastly EB sale (I don't even like how they've continually changed the interface).

Imagine being upset that people want to save money. This is what journalism has devolved to.
First World problems. I can't even comprehend why someone would even think about writing such article. Seriously, did game sales hurt the author (except financially)? What's next, «Keyboards have too many buttons and that's a big problem», «Why i still have to use the mouse, it's 2020, people!», «I'm getting extremely tired of pressing the POWER button every day!!! (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻» and «Why is breathing still a thing?!»
Dafuq!? Yeah I hate sales and like to pay full price, I'm elite. Lol what kinda shit is this?! We need more sales not less. If you hate sales, Nintendo has you covered with their 1st party always full price lineup.
This is stupid
