Putting out the "trash"

Screen Play: "South Australian Attorney General Michael Atkinson labeled the Interactive Australia 2009 report "absolutely bogus polling" and "trash" last night on the ABC's Good Game program, but its author has hit back.

The Bond University report was conducted on behalf of the Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia and released last month. It found 91 per cent of Australians support the introduction of an R18+ rating for games, including non-game players, and that the average age of Australian game players was now 30 years.

On last night's program, Mr Atkinson insinuated that the research was worthless because it had been paid for by the interactive industry, a claim rejected outright by the report's co-author, who says the research was done impartially by international firm Nielsen and the statistical analysis was performed "following the highest standard of research ethics"."
