Battletoads Incoming! Anarchic Amphibians Arrive August 20 with Xbox Game Pass - Xbox Wire

It’s been quite a while — 26 years, in fact — but at long last, the Battletoads are ready to morph, leap and smash their way back into the limelight for an all-new adventure helmed by Dlala Studios and supported by series creator Rare, a partnership first teased during the Xbox E3 2018 Briefing. The […]

This was actually a really good trailer! Was not expecting to care about a battletoads game but this looks like some good couch co-op fun.

Sciurus_vulgaris12d ago

The gameplay looks to be much faster than what was shown last year.

darthv7211d ago

It does look much improved over the previous trailer. Love the hover bikes and shmup sequences.

Ron_Danger11d ago

They sped up the movements from the last trailer but that “Flash game” art style is so ugly. Hopefully it’s fun for you guys to play but for me personally, this looks like something 2 guys developed in their basement as a proof of concept. After waiting like 25 years for a new Battletoads why does it look like this is launching 15 years ago?

I know considering Microsoft are so anti-couch co-op, that's usually Nintendo territory while Microsoft has to sell you Xbox Live.

This looks like a total blast compared to what was shown previously.

Looks like it's made in the spirit of the original. My only problem? Frogs with teeth. Always creeps me out.

The classic one was fun and this one look like it’s a fateful to the original as it can be.

Ouch. Rare was teasing a Battletoads announcement of some sort on their Twitter. Some people were getting excited that maybe they're finally making a proper Battletoads game for next gen. :\

Tacoboto11d ago

"Proper" for a franchise that's been silent for 26 years? Did those people forget that this game's been announced and coming for quite some time?

OtterX11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Well it needed to be used in a big way is what I'm saying. 26 years later, to honor the franchise. This isn't what I was hoping for from one of my favorite childhood games, as is the case with many people. This is fine I suppose while we wait for something better down the line, but the artstyle looks like a fanmade NewGrounds project in my opinion. Hopefully the fun factor will supersede the graphic style. I do hope to see a bigger budget Battletoads game some day.

Tacoboto11d ago

Good luck waiting till 2046 to be satisfied then

darthv7211d ago

I dont know about next gen but this looks fun AF!!!

GamerRN11d ago

Well considering it's on Xbox One I wouldn't call it next gen

343_Guilty_Spark11d ago

The thing about fun factor is it transcends gens...I'm playing FF9 . Amazing game!

gleepot11d ago

What did you want? Some photo realistic 3rd person action cover shooter starring the battletoads? This looks fantastic, and it captures everything about the original games that made them great.

FlavorLav0111d ago

Well, they did put a 3D battletoad character in Killer Instinct. That kinda hinted their might be something bigger than another side scroll project. What perfect time to reimagine the franchise then after 25 years?...

Knushwood Butt11d ago

Some folks want the full 12 terra flops.

Kribwalker11d ago

I thought it looked great and extremely polished and as a huge fan of the OG series i’m super pumped with the direction they went it.

To each their own i guess

OtterX11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Yea, I guess the gameplay itself isn't bad, actually looks pretty fun. It was the cutscenes themselves that is throwing me off. I don't particularly like the character designs and animation style, but it looks better zoomed out in the game, just not up close. I'll give it a go on Gamepass, been meaning to resubscribe for a while.

I hope it retains the insane difficulty!

JustTheFax11d ago

Definitely looks like a mid-2000's flash game!

343_Guilty_Spark11d ago

Is that how you felt about Castlecrashers?

JustTheFax10d ago

@343_Guilty_Spark Yeah actually. I can't get into any of those games with that kind of art style. The ones where they look like posed & stretched skeleton models instead of actual animated frames. I definitely prefer the pixel aesthetic of the mid-90's but of course that is just personal preference.
