Death Stranding PC Review: a Great Port We Can’t Recommend Right Now [The Mako Reactor]

The Mako Reactor says: “ Unless you’re a dyed-in-wool Kojima fan who can’t budge from the PC we can’t recommend Death Stranding at its current price tag. It’s a fantastic game, but there are better ways to play it right now.”

ive just flossed over steam sales and tbh this and horizons is far better quality than whats on offer. pc only really is missing out

MadLad1754d ago

That's normally your opinion. You're telling me the handful of games the big 3 push out each generation; millions and millions of dollars spent on development, results in a high quality product vs indie devs and AA developers?

Who would have thought?

There are a lot of good games on PC as well. But there is also a lot of trash which tends to fill the store fronts. Console games, the higher quality games tend to take more attention among the community. If you go to more PC gaming centric forums, they tend to focus on more of the quality games like we do, while ignoring those that aren't quality, or don't get enough marketing to get attention.

FinalFantasyFanatic1753d ago

Steam has always had the issue of wading through trash to get to the good stuff, I think they tried to crack down on it too at one stage.

rainslacker1753d ago

It's the same on mobile markets as well. When you have open platforms and store fronts, it's really hard to manage content curation, because as a storefront, you don't want to seem like you're showing preferential treatment. Steam tried to get rid of the shovelware, which is different than trying to manage a high profile title vs a low profile title, but both titles are still what would be considered quality within their own scope. Steam doesn't have much which filters out the big from the small, which is why it seems like markets are flooded with almost nothing but shovelware, and make discovery extremely hard without paying the extra money to do so. In the mobile market for instance, you don't even get reviewed if you don't pay the publications to do so. It's a racket that isn't likely to go away, because the store fronts don't care, and the publications which handle that stuff are the primary way to market such games.

This was tested on an Asus TUF FX505DT laptop with Ryzen 5-3550H and gtx 1650 @1080p. They complained that their test system only got around 24-30fps at MAXED setting..

They did no testing with DLSS and bother with any other settings with different hardware. Why write an article when you so limited on hardware or testing methodology?

Guru3D did a much better job and this site can learn a lot from them.

That's not proof, it's your opinion
which means you are lying, or you are a writer for a living who doesn't know what "prove" means
which is it?

anast17d ago

Content writers have to be hyperbolic.

Bwremjoe17d ago

On n4g, I frequently get so annoyed by comments that I take the time to login so I can downvote someone. Today is such a day. What a pointless comment…

jambola17d ago

that's pretty pathetic
Can't believe you're talking about pointless, and bragging about downvoting someone lmao

I logged in just to downvote as well, and even took the time to comment to make them aware of the fact lmao

Got the Director's Cut platinum a couple of hours ago.
Ready for DS2 now.

Storm2332d ago

I have been slowly working my way though this game for months. I keep playing other games in between but I want to finish it before DS2.

Knushwood Butt32d ago

I ended up with over 140 hours on it, but I wasn't exactly rushing. Ended up seeing to it that all roads were rebuilt too.
There are still a few Half Life missions left that I think I'll do.

lukasmain32d ago

Man I love this game. Platinumed it and played through it a 2nd time just for fun. I'm day 1 with bells on for the sequel

anast32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

In still drop in this world from time to time. I just played it yesterday.

Video Games Proud To Not Be For Everyone

Plenty of games have made a name for themselves as being proud of the fact they’re not to everyone’s taste over the years.

If you make something for everyone, you please no one.

mkis00790d ago

I mean I can do without nintendo games if given the choice. They are not nearly as mature rated as the average.

Yui_Suzumiya90d ago (Edited 90d ago )

Yeah but I use my Switch OLED primarily for anime booba style games (visual novels and JRPG's) and ultra violent FPS's. Far from kid friendly, lol

JohnBLZ89d ago

The problem with that line of though is that games have never been as much "for everyone" as in 2025.
The only thing that's not for everyone in gaming lately is the gatekeeping. Devs will try to appeal to as many people as they can, but if you dare have your own tastes and prefer something a bit more obscure, then you have "L takes" because at the moment, popular opinion equals right opinion.
So devs should simply own the fact they water down their games and go Hollywood to please everybody. Then indies will go back to being trendsetters that are different from AAAs, instead of being roguelike and gacha copycats.

Okay, but "games I'm not meant to love" means I won't play them.
Games are for fun. They're their own art, it's a disservice to reduce them to interactive stories. You can focus on making your audience entertained on a positive way and still stand out.

jznrpg89d ago

No game is for everyone. Some games are more mainstream or casual friendly but there is always someone who won’t like it. Same with anything else
