Swery Says He Will 'Fight With The Producer' To Work On Deadly Premonition 2's Awful Frame Rate

From Nintendo Life: "Game director and writer Hidetaka Suehiro, known as Swery, has commented on Deadly Premonition 2's frame rate situation in a live stream. Here's what he had to say, via a translator:

"There will not be a patch released in time for the release date, but Swery's going to take everyone's opinions and points into account, and he's going to fight with the producer to get something done at some point after the game's release".

Huge fan of the first game but considering all of the technical flaws it had it's absolutely ridiculous that the sequel was even released with this many issues. To add insult to injury they weren't even planning on making a patch until there was backlash.

It must have been made on PC or PS4 and ported to Switch. They shouldn't have made an exclusivity deal if they couldn't even get it to run. Clearly they just took the money.

CyberSentinel1815d ago

I had to cancel my preorder because of this.
I wish it was releasing on another platforms, then at least I would of had a choice.

TheProfessional1814d ago (Edited 1814d ago )

This series doesn't even have any ties to Nintendo. Why did they even bother doing a switch port? And now he has to "fight" with producers for a patch?

It is honestly a little disrespectful to the fans that he would release the game this way after all the problems with the first game that had to be ignored. Why wouldn't he go out of his way to make sure this game had better performance?

King_Noctis1814d ago

“This series doesn't even have any ties to Nintendo. Why did they even bother doing a switch port?”

Maybe it is the same situation to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.

“ It is honestly a little disrespectful to the fans that he would release the game this way after all the problems with the first game that had to be ignored.”

You’re right, it is ridiculous that the game is released this way. However, Rising Star (the game’s publisher) had confirmed that a patch is indeed in the work.

Shinox1814d ago

Why would they develop the game mainly for Switch if the final result gonna end up like this holding the game back
WTF are they thinking .. the first game was horribly optimized and they further make that mistake on this game too

Razmiran1814d ago

Probably because nobody wanted to put the money for a sequel except nintendo
Tends to happen

Amplitude1814d ago (Edited 1814d ago )

Just bought it lol gonna start it now and see how bad it is. I managed to beat the first one on PS3 where the frame rate was hell, and again on Switch where the frame rate was slightly less hell, and again on PC where the frame rate was solid but it was locked to 720p lmao

Long story short, im going in with extremely low expectations regarding performance but the first game is such a masterpiece that its worth it.
Imma definitely heed these warnings though. Hopefully overclocking the Switch helps it a bit but if not then whatever ill tough the bad frame rate out

TheProfessional1814d ago

Please post an update after you play it, really wondering if it is unplayable or not. I mean I want to support it but damn..

Felix_Argyle_Catbro1814d ago

I wish every console dev would fight to have their games run at 60fps and above instead of 30.

COG Considers: Why Are There So Many Games About Killers With Split Personalities?

This week on COG Considers, we tackle one of the most tired and unpleasant tropes in horror games: why games--and every other pop culture avenue--are so determined to paint people with Dissociative Identity Disorder as murderers.

Surprised killer7 isn't mentioned. This was the central premise of that game

KDblack1716d ago

Killer7 was mentioned, but only for one sentence because it's the central premise of the game. There wasn't really a need to go into detail.

gamerben1715d ago

Oh woops didn't catch it. Sorry mang

mastershredder1716d ago

Are they? You are fixed on Japanese games that are anime based/fashioned. Perhaps if you were not playing games that are similar to the animes that inspired them you would have more/different experiences.

When Cliche and Troupes are the building blocks, you can’t expect much. Just like you cannot expect good case study when the tester/observer has practically no variance in test subjects.

Sooooo many horror games out there... you really gotta explore some more.

KDblack1716d ago

I am aware! But games like Outlast or Remothered aren't really doing anything different, either--the most you could say is that Outlast hammers in that not all mental patients are dangerous. Just some of them. It really isn't just anime-inspired games that are doing this, even if you're counting Deadly Premonition among them. Bendy and the Ink Machine did it with Alice Angel, Krieg from the Borderlands games is this but played for laughs, and Dog/God from Fallout: New Vegas' Dead Money DLC is another example of both murder and weird, unrealistically rapid closure. This article was inspired after seeing one too many indie games on Steam with the premise 'discover the inner world of this tormented killer with DID.' Trust me when I say I'm exploring all kinds of horror games, and even outside those boundaries, because this is a really wide-reaching pattern.

That said, if you have any recs for more interesting/less stereotypical usage of characters with DID, hit me up.

Paper Mario: The Origami King – 8

Really Edge? I've seen you call better games out for the smallest things

RpgSama1784d ago

Totally, Ghost of Tsushima got a 6/10, and with this I'm not saying GoT is a perfect game, but compared to THIS Paper Mario, it definitely doesn't deserve to have 2 points less.

Nintendo games unfortunately are judged on a different scale.

-Foxtrot1783d ago

Literally...

It's a bad Paper Mario game where Nintendo hasn't learnt AGAIN

Sticker Star, Colour Splash, and this...

Yet "Ah it's okay here's an 8...you little cuties"

Question_Mark1783d ago (Edited 1783d ago )

Or maybe, and this is just a wild thought, they actually liked the game? Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean that everyone else shouldn’t or can’t like it, too.

Question_mark
People don’t realise that a review is just somebody’s subjective opinion! They need their 9s and 10s to justify their purchase instead of just making their own minds up!

King_Noctis1783d ago

Or maybe it is actually a good game? Let not pretend like Paper Mario got only 50% or 60% on Metacritic.

No it's just even Nintendo's worst is better than most.

DefaultComment1783d ago

Edge is one of the very few reviers that I trust, they don't give away high scores cause why not. They are strict with their grades and hence why I trust them.

Dark_Overlord1783d ago

People still treat EDGE as legitimate reviews? XD

RosweeSon1782d ago

Like any other reviews, its subjective.

The worst crap ever released this generation.

Imortus_san1784d ago (Edited 1784d ago )

Have you seen the digital foundry video about the frame rate? The game running at 5fps lots of times, and most of the time at 15~20, damm, this is a 1/10.

Razmiran1784d ago

If you think this is the worst game this gen then you must have played around 8 games this gen

King_Noctis1783d ago

Worst? Are you saying Fast and Furious Crossroad, The Quiet Man, and Life of Black Tiger are all better than this game?

Imortus_san1783d ago

They have not got the bad frame rate this one has, so yet, this is worst.

That frame rate makes the game unplayeble.

King_Noctis1783d ago

"They have not got the bad frame rate this one has, so yet, this is worst."

I see. Your criteria for bad game is framerate, not gameplay, story, or graphic. Alright.

Imortus_san1783d ago (Edited 1783d ago )

Lmao, there are frame drops that are tolerable, like a game is 30fs, but drops to 25, if the game drops below 20 all the time that's very bad, if a game that goes 15 and below, holy shit that shoud have never been lanched for the console, that's crap not worth the plastic. This one its 5fps a couple of times.

Bad frame rate = bad gameplay in all it's manners, if you have frame drops you have input lag increase, the same happens with shuttering that cause more input lag.

Bad gameplay > broken gameplay (this game and many others).
