The Last of Us: Part II Review: Trying To Forgive - TheGamer

The Last of Us: Part II puts players back in the beautifully-crafted and scary world almost as if they never left, which is both a good and bad thing.

The real reviews are finally pouring in

outsider16241829d ago

Just like in the user reviews. It was 2.9 last i checked. Now its 4.7 and climbing.

Thise review bombing sure helped bring the game down eh?

@generic

"..users that gave it low scores weren't xbox fans, they were fans of the first game."

Lmao! Yeah, keep telling yourself that. If not all I'm pretty sure most of them were OR just the ones who didn't even play the game.

Those with genuine low scores... they're just drowned by the excessive low scores.

I mean come on..you really believe that a game like tlou2 deserves a 0?? If you've played the game, you'd be crazy to say yes even if you don't like the story direction.

EmperorDalek1829d ago (Edited 1829d ago )

I mean, there's plenty of other PS4 exclusives that have great user scores on Metacritic, Days Gone even rated higher by users than critics. Are you suggesting Xbox fans are only interested in targeting TLOU2?

I don't get the arguement that anyone who hates it must not have played it. They clearly have legitimate issues with the story, that they would only know about by either playing or watching the game play out. It's also a double edged sword - who's to say that all the defenders have completed the game either? What makes their opinion more valid?

Right, 0 and 1 were BS and 10/10 and 9/10 were BS.

Most of these scores dont qualify for metacritic though... Meanwhile anybody can pretend to have played the game and give it a userscore. I think metacritic should be more inclusive of critic reviews and more selective of user reviews (a simple verification of game ownership via PSN user should be easy enough).

It's sad that people can't accept 10/10 scores these days. It must be tough being a hater.

Atom6661828d ago

It's equally as sad that people can't accept 7/10's these days too, right?

The review score wars always go the same way. Go back and look at some high profile games that netted some harsh reviews. Every other comment will be from people saying "I don't listen to reviews, I'll judge for myself." Or "Site _____ is bad at reviews."

Next time a game on their preferred system gets good reviews: "Great review!!"

Round and round it goes. Either accept that all reviews are subjective and will vary, or don't. The constant bitching and hypocrisy has gotten rather old.

Gatsu1828d ago (Edited 1828d ago )

@Atom666, You're right, but it looks like you kind of missed my point. I was referring to his comment about lower scores being "real reviews". As if saying that higher scores are fake or paid for. I'm okey with different kind of scores, but many can't seem to accept the fact that maybe reviewers have their opinions too and some people actually might think, that TLOU2 deserves all the praise to earn 9 or 10 for example.

Atom6661828d ago

No, I understood. And my comment wasn't wholly aimed at you. Just the hypocrisy on both sides, really.

More to your point - It's been awhile since I checked, but I was perma-banned back in the day at Gamespot over the whole Kane and Lynch controversy. While I don't think too many are paid for positive reviews, there's always going to be a stigma to some types of reviews.

When we see something like what happened with MGS5 for example, I'm skeptical. They fly people out to their nice set up for a week. Feed them. House them. Offer "assistance" from staff while reviewers play the game. Human nature has to kick in at some point, and people will maybe be a little less critical of a game when it's makers just treated them to some nice freebies.

Not saying that it happens all the time. Not saying TLOU2 doesn't deserve tons of great praise or high scores, either. I'm at a 9/10 at least myself.

But ignoring this game for a moment, general proposition: Two people review a product. 1 gets it free from the company for the sole purpose of reviewing it. 2nd buys it with their own money and reviews it themselves. If asked who might be more influenced to rate it higher, who would you say?

Must suck to hate on the best game of the generation.

Smashing sales records, boatloads of perfect scores, massive amounts of critical praise and easily the GOTY.

I feel bad for you

King_Noctis desperately looking for "bad" reviews for this game. Get over it. The haters have lost.

King_Noctis1829d ago (Edited 1829d ago )

So only "good" reviews should be posted on this site for this game? People with different opinions don't count?

And while we are on the topic of good or bad, since when is a 7 out of 10 bad?

averagejoe261828d ago (Edited 1828d ago )

Why do you only submit the low scores though? If you claim you're being fair, where are your high score submissions? You're not fooling anyone. What are you, like 12?

I hope you do the same the next time a new Nintendo game comes out. We'll be taking notice to make sure you play fair.

But who am I kidding? You're the biggest known fanboy on this entire site.

King_Noctis1828d ago (Edited 1828d ago )

“ Why do you only submit the low scores though?”

Which high score reviews for this game that have not yet been posted to this site? Give me the link, I’ll submit it immediately.

“ But who am I kidding? You're the biggest known fanboy on this entire site”

Ironic isn’t it?

jamesclark19911828d ago

My summary: It's a very good game with a underwhelmingly average story that they managed to execute very well. It's also frustrating that at 25+ hours long they didn't manage to explore some of the more interesting sides of the world, namely the Seraphites. I wouldn't disrespect Naughty Dog by slapping a score on this game, it's more complicated than that. But I would advise they hire a new writer.
