There can certainly be better practices and processes implemented to mitigate crunch, but that "final push" to meet a deadline will always be there, it's just part of any industry with deadlines, especially creative industries. The game industry is just one of the worst offenders when it comes to that, and is certainly something that needs to be addressed. And stress is just part of any job.
