I don't think this story is better than the first game or some other games I've played. I'm not sure I'd go as far as a 6.5/10 as I haven't finished it and likely won't until I buy my own copy, but I definitely can't say it has the best story at about halfway through or so.

I am playing on survival and its brutal. So stop lying. You need to be good at that dodge spamming wont help you. Also enemies AI are more alert on survival. Ok guys, just finished the TLOU 2 and I can say it was awesome.

I’m not going to be a dick and spoil anything, but me personally I do not like Abby, but I see where she’s coming from and to answer the burning question that none of these immature/ignorant/sexist Youtubers are addressing.....no Abby is not a transexual.

The story is about revenge in the most savage way you can think of, so yes, there’s a lot of WTF moments, but at the same there’s some heartfelt ones too.

Another thing that not one reviewer or so called user is talking about are the new types of infected, which are f$&king awesome, you guys have to witness it for yourselves.

The combat is crazy fun and superior to every way to the first game, the way you can interact with environments to escape your enemies is second to none. If there’s another game that you can do this please let me know. For example, I was surrounded by group and I broke thru this random to get away from them and also I was fighting this one enemy that almost got the upper hand on me, with pure luck I shot him in his leg and he fell down to his knees and I grab my bat and bashed his freaking head in, which felt extremely good.

I really enjoyed this title, it’s a solid 9 for me. I’m going to play it again and try to get everything.

Visually stunning. Animations are fluid. I loved running through environment and just watching Ellie's hands quickly pick up and stow items. Combat is an improvement over the first game, but won't win over anyone who didn't like it in the first game. I like the addition of the workbench.

Exactly. I wouldn't be surprised if there was more of this happening. I felt Nintendo games for instance in the last 20 years, while good overall have been getting a lot of free 9s and 10s despite making games that give off the same outdated game design focus. Sometimes they do take risks like say Botw, but there are a LOT of legitimate issues in that game that get a free pass with a full positive outlook and not even a nuanced sense of critique. There's almost no criticism in the reviews to this game's inventory and item break system, which in turn makes a lot of the items you get feel unusable or that you'd never use them because they'd break so easily, thus your reward for exploration has been diminished. That's really bad since exploration is this game's central focus. Or the general sense of while it can at times feel good traversing the open world, there are a lot of times where it just feels like the open world is getting in the way of a more engaging sense of progression. So few real dungeons and so many small one-and-done dungeons too.

SMO has a depth issue like many mario games. It's good for what it is, but the game feels outdated as hell. Not saying you can't enjoy good simple fun. But we're talking revolutionary level scores here in the mid 90s and above range. RE4, Half Life 2, and Metroid Prime are games in the mid to high 90s that actually feel like they deserve to be there because they really broke new ground or took huge risks that not only paid off but had consistent amazing game design. It seems like ever since around 2010 or a little past that some questionable reviews have been going on.

You could easily say that ‘youtubers’ have a lot more to gain by being controversial than journalists. Many of these youtubers are chasing views and have been ploughing out related videos for weeks because views have gone up.. It’s no different when they review the game.
It’s interesting though that even though it’s obvious people still choose to trust them, this is primarily because people only believe the reviews that fit in with their narrative, be it journalists or youtubers.

Refined gameplay, sick graphics, and a good story. They really make you feel loads of emotions. I look forward to a third if they do it.

The draw for me was always the story if you take away the story while a competent game it isn't that amazing, I didn't play this for the game play believe it or not I played for the characters and the stories involving them and they destroyed that dynamic early on.

I have completed the campaign twice and I'm heartbroken over Druckmann's $h!t show narrative.

With that said, however much I loathed certain aspects, this game absolutely reeks of the quality of a 9 to 10 score.

For me it's clunky, especially in combat. The stuff out of combat is buttery smooth like Spiderman, but when a combat situation arises, I'm fighting a multitude of controls as well as enemies. I know I can change it, but have stuck with it, but I hate & struggle with L1 to run & at the same time dodge. I have died numerous times over, battling the control scheme, rather than the enemies.

I had the same problems with controlling Red Dead Redemption 2. Although I'd say Tlou2 is way easier and smoother to control than rd2.

The value of the score is dependent on the site or reviewer itself. There is no real standard across the board. Some sites say average is 5-6, while some sites use 7-8 to say its average. A 10 is almost universally thought of as an excellent game, and is used to much nowadays.

Anything under a 7 for last of us 2 is realistically seriously deluded. I’ve seen sequels of worse games within a year get a solid 7-8. This game is a sequel to one of best from last gen. Scores are a huge factor in many facets of game development. They are linked to sales, popularity, sequels, and depending on what was criticized in the game can be fixed in the sequel. They used to pull this stunt where they would tie meta-critic scores to whether developers got paid a bonus if it reached a threshold at one point but thankfully that doesn't happen. In this case, the score is just way for people to reinforce their own opinion.

Im playing for 12 hours now... And i can say this. When y review a GAME first of all you must not be paid from some one too trash the Game with weak excuses like some sites.
Now when y review the Game y must score It based for what It is... And not for what y want to be.
First you must score the Game play for that is what makes a game great..
The Lou2 has statue of the art ANIMATION, COLLISION DETECTION, AI, CONTROLS, PACE, and many other elements like puzzling, platforming, exploring.. Etc. its never gets repeatitive like many games out there.
Graphics right now is a tecnichal achivement with 98% of the time with NO frame drops besides 1 with 2 frames there in 4k.the atmosphere is phenomenal and y Will feel like y r actually there.
So what remains is the story..... For me It has the balls to Do some very serious twists and show y that real life many times sucks. But this is my opinion for the story and must not let my score be based to my personal opinion about the story.
Show my score for this video game not a movie, not a benchmark engine, not a painting in a museum but a video game is 9/10 because nobady and nothing in the World is perfect.

I finally had the time to sit down and play some of this today, I started the game and didn't realise that just over 7 hours had passed by the time I had to make myself some dinner.
I've still got a fair bit too play, but so far it's awesome.

The supposedly controversial story elements make perfect sense given the events of the first game.
The gameplay, tension, AI and overall presentation are very well crafted.
I would say if you like/loved the first game then this is a must play.
If you don't want anything bad to happen to the characters then don't play the game, but if you like TV Series like The Walking Dead or games like this then you'll be sorry you didn't play this, it's amazing IMO.

The only part I have liked about the game so far is Ellie getting stoned and the wicked gorry violence ... unless it improves dramatically through the rest of the game I can't see myself playing it anymore than once .

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but some opinions are not worth listening to or taken with a grain of salt (that works both ways obviously). I think you can easily hate some parts of this game on a personal level(such as sections of the story and pacing), but to offer it a 6.5 seems to appease the narrative of the haters out there not happy with the perfect scores it has been receiving and comes across a bit hit hungry for the website. If, as a reviewer you feel this game only qualifies as a 6.5 in the grand scheme then perhaps think of another occupation as your opinion comes across jaded or has an underlying motive rather than taking what's presented at face value. You do gamers and your readers a disservice with this review which comes across as attention seeking.

A well written review that seems overly tied up with the dislike for the story/characters which although is a big part of the game, the reviewer totally bypassed the gripping gameplay (exploration, combat, boss fights and stealth mechanics) offering little words to describe these elements in any meaningful way. If you feel guilty killing people in video games just because they have names then look elsewhere for an occupation. You can always play smart and try and stealth past enemies if you're not up for getting your hands bloody. And, just like vultures (not sure if they are cultured) more like flies to shit, all those people who disagree with the perfect scores it received elsewhere congregate and congratulate the reviewer for "being honest" in the comments which says a lot.

I mean, playing a game knowing the location of enemies, as with The Last of Us series, takes away the realism and is a form of cheating (should be an option to turn it off). It was always going to be the same as the first game, so why this is never taken into consideration with reviews is a mystery, but what else can be do with any game? Why get sucked into the hype? These days, it's virtually all about the graphics. Most of the time, you're that busy playing away, the visuals whizz by, massively so with racers. Still, I'm waiting for the PS5 version.
