The Last Of Us Part II's Violence Is Too Fun To Feel Bad About

A lot's been made of The Last Of Us Part II's controversial (and, frankly, bad) marketing - especially in terms of its handling of violence.

It's about time that the age rating for games is taken seriously by ignorant parents.

Unfortunately when you see some of the crap people are saying about this game and then review bombing because the story didn’t fit in with their imagination is it any wonder people still think gaming is for kids? Most of the outspoken act like kids, talk like kids and stomp their feet like kids, this is what people see, which detracts from the maturity of the medium.
I think this is where the problem lies, this game is just to mature for some people, not just in violence but in its themes and understanding of those themes, hence why the fairytale life certain people had dreamt up of the main characters is causing so many issues.
You are right though, games for over 18’s should be for over 18’s and parents should be held account for allowing their kids to play them.

I was slightly taken aback by the violence when I scoped a guy in the face and his whole face just imploded and it looked just how it sometimes would in real life and yeah it did look funny, a goofy looking buck teeth imploded face, but it was very brief, im too desensitised to video game depictions of violence after 30 years of gaming.

It's all about disassociation. It's easier to do that for games that are marketed to be fun or have communities that don't take things seriously. And some people just never have empathy towards a game like they would real life.

what is this? i certainly felt disgust at times when killing mobs. that was one of the reasons i did stealth more than usual.

The fact that the dogs don't sound realistic when killed is great, im glad they went that direction cause most people wouldn't be putting up with that, humans screaming and gurgling is fine cause I know its a voice actor but a real dog pain sound has to come from a dog in pain and no one wants to hear that....except the Chinese.
