What Could We Realistically See At Today's PS5 Event?

With the upcoming PS5 event giving us our first in depth look at games on the PS5. Our editor Nicholas gives his thoughts on what we could see.

yeah....current events have already screwed up their timeline a good bit. I wouldn't be surprised if they pushed this event to two hours to incorporate the console reveal.

Yes, that makes sense, products entering production are prone to leaks. It would be wise if Sony reveals the console as soon as possible, depending on when the ps5 enters production that is. Do we have any solid info on that?

That is not confirmation of final assembly/QA production; its for various parts 9 (I know you did not imply that). So that tells me Sony might not reveal the console today but sometime just before all parts are sent to the final assembly site. That could be days or even weeks ahead.

In any case, hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised later today, fingers crossed!

Yeah that's true enough, I just dont see them making us wait any longer than we already have, it would be a bad move not to show it in my opinion(mixed with my own impatience) we all want games, but I still wanna see what I'm buying too lol.

All games will be aiming for launch or launch window (except Horizon tease, they want a nice install base, before they start releasing their big sellers / heavy-hitting AAA action exclusives).

GT7 and Demon's Souls are the big games for launch. I suspect GT7 to be GT Sport with all the content, with tracks and the premium cars remodeled for PS5 graphics expectation, with up to 4K resolution and aiming for at least 60fps if not 120fps (for VR support in the future). We've already seend the GT Sport demo in 9K for TV's, so it makes sense to use that as the target and scale the resolution down.

We've seen what Blue Point can do, so Demon's Souls is going to look great, and probably run in 4K @ 60fps.

@abiz, I would truly be disappointed if GT7 were not a true GT7 but instead a repackaged GTS like you described. Basically GTS complete edition renamed GT7 isnt going to fly with the diehard GT fans. As for Bluepoint... I'd much rather they remake Legend of Dragoon than Demon Souls. We've had so many 'Souls' games lately but we havent had any Legend of Dragoon.

I'll take a bloodborne 2 before a remake of demon souls. Housemarque... maybe a new shmup like they did with PS3 (super stardust) and PS4 (resogun) launches. Whatever is shown will be top notch. Im just not liking that GT7 route you described though.

To be honest, I think Sony can safely announce their price point and I think consumers will respect them all the more for not making everyone wait longer than they have too, why? People have to save money and plan for pre-orders.

The price of the PS5 is dependent on value. Sony can ask whatever they will for the PS5 as long as it's fair and consumers see the value in it, that's what Sony has to sell. They know what it's going to cost, they can't stop that but if they help consumers see why it's legitimately worth it, consumers will understand. (Remember, they're still angry at Microsoft and faces like Yoshida and Boyes helped build trust, it was like talking to your buddies rather than a suit and they lived up to what they said they were going to do.) What Microsoft did was treat consumers like they were idiots that didn't know better and then what made everyone angry was their wishy-washy stance, people don't want that, they want confidence in what they're buying. Sony have a strong relationship with consumers that's giving them momentum, so as long as Sony can justify it's cost and value, it'll be okay. People didn't see that with the PS3 until it was too late but Sony backed up their claims, still, with their software which helped as well against Microsoft in the end and into the PS4. Sony knows gamers because they behave like gamers. Microsoft still knows nothing, they're ignorant, out of touch, and they're suits.

Sony needs to just get it out there and put consumers minds at ease, it's going to happen. Microsoft has the money to undercut Sony not matter what, Sony just backs up their claims as to why the PS5 is worth consumers money rather than just watching TV and flailing their body around. Show VR, explain the controller more. The Vita was announced as a lower price point than the 3DS and the 3DS still destroyed it because Sony made poor decisions about the memory stick, Microsoft can undercut the PS5 but make poor decisions elsewhere. What are those expansion SSDs gonna cost, etc.

I agree. Momentum wise they can show the console and still keep the eyes on them without revealing a price, because more than likely they still are waiting on Microsofts next move.

The closer too release these consoles get I think it well become imperative for someone to reveal an actual price! Just looking at the landscape IMO Sony is in a better position than Microsoft as far as keeping silent as too price. Simply because the PS5 has already garnered more attention media wise.

Microsoft marketed the XboxSX months before PS5, in the process that interest died down and Sony swooped in and capitalized on it.

How much do you think the price will be?

I'm going for between £449-£549 (UK we get slammed for tax) for both consoles. Somewhere in that region, any more, you risk limiting your new console to the hardcore fanbase. Any less, you have mass market appeal, but will lose a lot on manufacturing costs.

If i remember rightly - PS4 pro launched at £349, xbox one x launched at £449. These are more than a midgen upgrade, so we could see a PS5 £399 launch, xbox series X £429 launch. I would not bet any less than that.

The question is how much either company can afford to absorb, in terms of losses.

If it's like the PS4 reveal, it'll be some tech talk, then games, probably a closer look at the DS5, and this time, maybe show what the console looks like, but not get into too many details about it now. They'll want to save some things for later. The tech talk will likely be minimal because they already did the deep dive, but I know there are a couple things left there they could talk about as well.

Chances are, they'll also talk more about their BC plans, because MS has been making a big deal about it, so they'll want to clear the air on that a bit.

Otherwise, i do think games are going to be more of a focus. People are asking to see them too much to provide the bare minimum, and while they probably would anyways, upstaging MS "game play" reveal event would be huge right now.

When people are hungry, you feed them, and right now, Sony has everyone's attention.

Never been big on KZ, but wouldn't mind Horizon 2. Maybe a JRPG although it'll probably be a souls type game based on rumors.

I think they will show the console and give details surrounding the console and its features. They will show games running on the console and some launch games as well as games coming next year. This 2 hour event will be a blowout of information on ps5 and they may even announce price and pre orders.

All I'm really hoping to see is horizon zero dawn 2 as a launch title.

I thought that early 2021 at best would be HZD2. But Sony does have to have something to go up against Halo as a launch title for XSX. So HZD2 is not so far fetched of an idea anymore. If not that then what? It should be something of a known entity. I don't think they would try to do it with a brand new AAA IP.

That's what I keep saying. 4k 60fps gaming is a steal at 500. Even at 600 it's robbery. Then some PC people keep saying , I can build a 4k machine for less than that. Death Stranding on PC won't even run at 60fps 1080p without a machine under 1,000.

Makes me wonder if PS5 will also have 2 SKUs of different power at launch.

I know people want to see the games but at this point I'm more intrigued about the power and price points haha.
