Between 540p and 720p while docked.

Not gonna lie; That's pretty disappointing and bad.

CDbiggen1845d ago

Well actually Xeno 2 probably was much the same and I didn't have a problem.

CDbiggen1844d ago (Edited 1844d ago )

What, you never think twice about something?

Pughski1845d ago

It's pathetic really. It's 2020 and Nintendo is still using cartridges as if it's still the 90's. 720p shouldn't exist in 2020.

CDbiggen1845d ago

Well the carts help with the portability and definitely with the load times, that's not a problem at all. The resolution on the other hand is indeed a bit rubbish. I'm sure the Witcher 3 ran at 540 in handheld, so what is Monolith's excuse here?

jmtstan1845d ago

if you played Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on switch, you probably expected this. since the 2 games on switch was also 720 docked, 540 handheld mode. honestly it was quite a fuss back then, people complaining about the resolution. kinda understandable since the hardware limitation of Switch. but even then Xenoblade chronicles 2 still look gorgeous.

Neonridr1844d ago

yeah but that was XC2, not the first one. And this isn't 720p or 540p, this is less than that at times. I don't agree with this at all.

Nyxus1845d ago

Any word on the review embargo?

Fraggle19871845d ago

Heard the resolution goes below the wii resolution when undocked. This remaster has been a disaster.

Antnee5341845d ago

Why has it been a disaster?

Fraggle19871845d ago

Because the resolution is so low the graphics are very blurry. Remember there was xenoblade chronicles 2 on switch which looks vastly better so there was no excuse for the resolution to be this bad. It is an older game fter all.

It has definitive in the title yet it can look worse than the original. Thats a disaster.

Vegamyster1845d ago

Fraggle1987

It doesn't look worse than the original lol, those resolutions on a small screen are not the same as playing a Wii on a standard TV. Also Xenoblade Chronicles 2 also ran at similar resolutions in handheld mode, there was only a couple areas in the game where the resolution would dip that low though and it'll probably be the same case with this game.

VariantAEC1845d ago

@Vegamyster
Try playing GRID or basically any title on a Samsung device dating back to the Note 4 with Game Tuner ( https://news.samsung.com/gl... - now defunct) or Game Plug-ins (Game Tuners replacement).

If you set your phone hardware to output at 720p natively and adjust Game Tuner or Game Plug-ins resolution scale to 75% you'll see how bad 540p looks. Now this would be acceptable in my opinion if games at least ran consistently and for an extended period of time on Switch, but neither of those things is true regarding Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on Switch so this won't likely be a better situation with the remaster.

The problem is the game will look better but possibly run worse without any battery benefits too boot. At least when I choose to restrict performance in phone games I see appreciable gains in battery and thermal performance. I regularly get gameplay battery performance that bests video streaming and online browsing battery life... Let that sink in! I can and do play interactive 3D games longer than I can stream video or browse websites like this one on a phone (many sites with long text sections are taxing on mobile versions of Chrome). Limiting performance and resolution has that big of an effect on battery life.

Additionally what I was getting at is resolution being that low is pretty unsightly. Text in games like GRID get messy at resolutions under 720p.
Other games its not as much an issue, but aliasing is very obvious even in games with 4xmsaa (including GRID Autosport).

If this game is only looking better than it's Wii era counterpart but has terrible image quality and performance, then what was the point of remastering the title??

King_Noctis1845d ago (Edited 1845d ago )

“Has been”? Am i missing something here?

“ Remember there was xenoblade chronicles 2 on switch which looks vastly better”

At launch, Xeno2 on portable mode ran at 552p, 342p, and even 368p. They patched it and made it better. So who to say they won’t patch this game?

KeenBean3451845d ago (Edited 1845d ago )

I know it's a smaller screen and like mentioned in the article has sharpening but hitting 378p handheld is poor even for the switch. Expected more but hope it still looks good

1 - 3 are connected. Idk if X is connected since I haven't beaten the epilogue in X yet. X will probably be connected.

Nintendo of America never planned on bringing Xenoblade to North America despite announcing it at E3

These days Xenoblade is one of Nintendo’s bigger franchises – at least when it comes to RPGs – but that wasn’t always the case. The first entry came out in English more than a year after its Japanese launch, and that was for European fans only.

Would've been yet another whack move on Nintendo. I'm glad they did. It's one of the few games I got the switch for.

XiNatsuDragnel398d ago

Well nintendo if you didn't do that big l

Knightofelemia398d ago

I guess Nintendo forgets how boosting sales numbers work. Why lock a game to a certain region or certain regions? You want sales number then flood the market and release the game in every region.

Lionsguard398d ago

I just don't understand why companies enjoy locking software behind such specific things. Imagine if Minecraft was only available for Xbox 360 and only North America and never again on anything else..
