PETA Wants Animal Crossing: New Horizons Players to Stop Catching Fish

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), the largest animal rights organization in the world, posted a TikTok video to its social channels, telling Animal Crossing players to stop catching fish for the museum.

Jeesh if you can't tell the difference between reality and something pretend then you're just an idiot and maybe you should be drinking the purple kool aid. PETA always has to pop off over something stupid that has to do with a video game and animals they just want to tell people we are still here don't forget about us. I hunt the shit out of animals on Red Dead 2 doesn't mean I am going into the bush to actually shoot an animal.

I am generally quite left leaning and have very strong feelings on animal welfare issues, but I have to say, some of the things that come from PETA seem quite rediculous.

I can get on board with behaviours becoming normalised if we see them frequently enough in mainstream media, for example, but I just don't see how this little fishing mechanic in a cutesy videogame could be seen in this way. I am pretty certain that someone with no interest in fishing would not go on to develop an interest in fishing, merely because they play Animal Crossing.

I do believe animal rights organisations have a vital role to play, but I think they need to be more selective in their actions, I would suggest that trivial things like this turn people away from supporting animal rights advocates.

Yeah man. It's legit. They admitted to it during a court case I believe. They're excuse was something like they don't have space for the animals, but it's better to euthanize them because they don't believe in pet ownership. They actually stole a kid's dog from their backyard and killed it.
