Nintendo Is About to Have a Really Bad Year

KeenGamer: "Even though Nintendo has been doing well this year, a lineup made-up of old ports and niche sequels could make this the first drought since the Switch was launched. While we may be getting a new Paper Mario, a two-game year is not a good look for Nintendo."

First drought? Have you been under a rock?

Switch has had droughts before

badz1491434d ago

Unless you guys stop buying the damn MK8 Deluxe, not a chance. Nintendo is holding back this year because they know the PS4 and Xbone (LOL who am I kidding?) are not gonna sell that many units anymore due to the imminent next gen releases. Next year will be the true test for the longevity of the Switch and they are preparing for it. I'm even willing to bet at the very least, they already have the SM3DWorld Deluxe already being worked on and ready for release early next year alongside BoTW2...and maybe MK9 also coming.

RosweeSon1433d ago

Not til next gen I don’t think. They’ve never released more than 1 a gen previously and while MK8 is a very good port I think that’ll be it for this gen from them. Mario kart smash bros are once a gen games ✌🏻🤓

Catherine: Full Body
Trails of Cold Steel 3
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
Borderlands Collection
Xcom Collection
Bioshock Collection
Paper Mario
Doom Eternal
The Outer Worlds
Bravely Default 2
Minecraft Dungeons
No More Heroes 3
Blair Witch
Empire of Sin
King's Bounty 2

....and that doesn't include unannounced games for the 2nd half of 2020. Some drought huh?

thesoftware7301434d ago

I see 6 games on that list that I will own.

So yeah..not really a drought.

DEKUX121433d ago

90 percent of ps4 Nd xbox games are ports cut the crud

indysurfn1433d ago

i'm gonna go MAD if Bravely Defailt 2 is not soooooon! Have you guys played the demo? Octopath who!? This game is going to sell GREAT. I heard 5 high end addicting music themes on the demo already. Not to mention the gameplay and strategy they have already built into the game revealed in the demo. I'd buy a SWITCH for this game alone.

I didn't mention trails of cold steel 3 because I already beat it 3.8 times already. (easy, Normal, and Hard. 80% done with playing it on nightmare).

Father__Merrin1434d ago

Almost all of those are old games. Switch is just a cash in port console. Bioshock "on the go" lol

thesoftware7301434d ago (Edited 1434d ago )

Thsts one of the games on my list lol.

LOGICWINS1434d ago (Edited 1434d ago )

If the Switch is a cash in port console....then I'm curious about your opinion on the PS4 and Xbox One.

The top selling game on the PS4 and Xbox One is GTA V....a last gen port.

Kabaneri1434d ago (Edited 1434d ago )

8 of those games are old ports and Minecraft is multiplat. Other than Xenoblade and Paper Mario that list has hardly any exclusives that are relevant. Looks like a drought to me.

Shiken1434d ago (Edited 1434d ago )

Have not played Bioshock Infinite, Borderlands 2/presequel, Cold Steel 3, Outer Worlds, DOOM Eternal, XCOM, or King's Bounty 2 on the 3rd party side. And that is after playing the hell out of Trials of Mana and not even touching up on exclusive games like Animal Crossing (which was a suprise because I never expected to like it, let alone love it), Xenoblade, Bravely 2, Paper Mario, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions earlier this year (which was new to me).

Droughts are in the eye of the gamer and their needs, and for me they are just not there on Switch. Choosing to play games on a hybrid gives me more time to enjoy PS IPs, REmake 3, and FFVIIR as my time tied to a TV is limited to the weekend or very early morning.

Also if Paper Mario has taught us anything it should be that going forward due, to lack of directs from COVID, a new game or update could be dropped on us at any day instead of being saved for a direct. And that, is quite exciting TBH.

thesoftware7301434d ago

Why do games have to be exclusive to be good?

King_Noctis1433d ago

Bravely Default 2, No More Hero 3, and Deadly Premonition 2 aren’t relevant?

....ok.

WickedLester1434d ago (Edited 1434d ago )

Why in hell would anyone buy any of those Old 3rd party "Functioning Editions" when they can get way better versions on PS4/X1?

Shiken1434d ago (Edited 1434d ago )

As someone who owns a PS4 Pro and buys all multiplats on Switch, it is because the hybrid nature of the consoles doubles my playtime. My limited time tied to a TV is used in either docked mode or playing the few 3rd party games I feel I must play that don't come to Switch like REmake 3 or FFVIIR. I also love PS 1st party IPs so there is that too.

In the end, most of my game time goes to Switch, and by doing so I can more effectively enjoying more of what gaming has to offer.

Hope that answers your question.

thesoftware7301434d ago

For the huge part of why the Switch is so good...

You can take it anywhere..dismiss it as you may, but the people have spoken.

LOGICWINS1434d ago

That's like saying....

Why in the hell would anyone buy earbuds for their smartphone when they can get way better sound quality by casting their music via bluetooth to a surround sound system?

.....do you see how silly your question is?

indysurfn1433d ago

Dang Logicwins. That was a STRAIGHT line perfect illustration. Im not talking about the slam you threw in there, at the end. But the illustration was sweet!

GTAV, Last of Us, Uncharted Collection, GOW3 , Halo collection rare replay. They all do it and that’s before the 3rd parties drop their collections. Luckily the majority have been top quality games and no one actually forced you to re buy the same game you could have always just played your original.

Ratchet751434d ago

Doom eternal on switch?
When does it releases?

LOGICWINS1434d ago

No official release date yet....but I'm excited for it nonetheless.

indysurfn1433d ago

lol....You bet it is..the last doom was on switch too. You may want to check it out. It had bugs but it is fixed now https://youtu.be/4-tRmswefP...

Profchaos1434d ago

Definitely some great games coming

46player1434d ago

Ports and remasters mostly.

LOGICWINS1434d ago

Works for me as they are ports and remasters that I haven't played.

indysurfn1433d ago

We get it....Sony has ports and remasters and sequeals and you want to make it look like it is just Nintendo. Because Hippocratic. Weee get it.

Steppenwolfmother1434d ago

As an owner of all 3 platforms it’s hard for me to get excited about 3rd party games coming to switch that are double (sometimes as much as 4x) the cost of the PS4/Xbox version and also play/look worse.

Pughski1433d ago

Nintendo sure is greedy $$

indysurfn1433d ago

Its hard for me to get what freaking game your talking about that was 4 times?! or even TWICE! Unless your one of those guys that point at the regular game on one system and point to the special/collectors edtition on the other in order to fool one out of 10,000 people.

meka26111433d ago

Yea was thinking the same, where do these fanboy articles keep coming from??

indysurfn1433d ago

People that use fanboys to get there viewership up. It makes them ad money.
