Cant wait to get my hands on it, Im most looking forward to the adaptive triggers, racing games are gonna benefit from this, the feeling of breaks and accelerator should convey well through them, also haptics will probably be able to convey grip loss etc tyre sequel from the speaker maybe? Looking forward to seeing what devs do with it.

darthv721430d ago (Edited 1430d ago )

Thats what im looking forward to as well. The rumble triggers were a neat touch in forza but these should be even better. If racing in the rain, you feel the car slipping and can quickly adjust so you dont spin out. Thats gonna be cool.

IRetrouk1430d ago

Yeah there is so much that can be done with them, I just think of racers automatically because they are my fave game type lol, we just need devs to commit, it's a crying shame more devs didnt copy forza, the impulse triggers were fantastic at giving you a sense of what the tyres were doing and what surface you were on.

Drew3451430d ago (Edited 1430d ago )

Fortnite uses the touchpad, and it works better than any simple button, too. More than 50% of games uses it for menus, so it's not useless. And besides, this is only the first iteration of the touchpad in the controller. It will only get better with every evolution just like everything else in the controller. Just because every feature doesn't get used in every game doesn't make it worthless. It just gives developers a bigger tool box to work with

As for sixaxis, there is a huge number of VR games that uses it, including those like Fire Wall. If it were never implemented into the controller, the experience would be incredibly dull to the Move experience.

1430d ago
RangerWalk2671430d ago

If it's anything like the DualShock 4. All the features of it will fizzle out. They were used a TON at launch and somewhat used in the Sony produced games. Admit it, the touchpad is nothing more that another button now. And barely any games use the gyroscope anymore. Infamous Second Son had the spray paint feature. That was cool. I don't see 3rd party developers using any of these features at all. Same thing happened with the haptic feedback in the Xbox triggers. Only Microsoft produced games use it. I hope I'm wrong.

crazyCoconuts1430d ago

I'd add that some VR games used the gyro since the controller is fully VR enabled. Also, both the touchpad and gyro can be used as input methods for typing across the system, both methods far superior to using dpad and/or thumbsticks. But directionally I agree that 1st parties make the most use of the proprietary tech. Obviously, the mute button and microphone can benefit all games.

roadkillers1430d ago

Sounds like a lot of bull. I'm a Sony fan, Xbox, and Nintendo. The controller looks cool, but sounds like another gimmick. The people making the true step forward is motion controllers in VR. Hoping to see the PS5VR system and I hope it is better than the Valve Index (Very quality device).

ifinitygamer1430d ago

We all said that about the haptic feedback in the Joy-Con until we basically felt marbles rolling around inside them. Nintendo hasn't used the functionality much, but if Sony and its dev partners do, haptics could be a big game changer for this gen.

shiva11430d ago

If there is no turn off filter then the first request would be to have a feature to let the consumers turn off that feature same like the light on ds4.

FinalFantasyFanatic1429d ago

The Joy-Cons have haptic feedback? What games? I've never come across one, but I've only owned the console for less than 6 months.

xenz1430d ago

I guess you thought rumble was a gimmick aswell 20 years ago lmao

Father__Merrin1430d ago

No other controller like this it's going to be extremely fun to use. Those that buy a Ps5 or a series X will have that new gen feel. This is something you don't get on pc you just buy parts

Hawk1986661430d ago

Probably be a feature i will instantly turn off like vibration

shiva11430d ago

Exactly. It will be at max one hr before that fizzels. One would search settings for sure.

Cupid_Viper_31430d ago

"Probably be a feature i will instantly turn off like vibration"

Press X for doubt.

You couldn't even "instantly" stay out of the comment section of an article discussing a feature you "supposedly" don't care about.

SyntheticForm1430d ago

Same.

That's the first thing I look to do when I boot up any game initially. Though I will give the haptics a try to see if I enjoy them, standard vibration or rumble just irritates me. Rumble adds nothing to the experience for me. I don't feel more immersed in an in-game quake, or missile barrage because my damn controller is vibrating.

Yui_Suzumiya1430d ago

I can't play a game without vibration 😂

I have the Cobalt Blue controller and it lasts twice as long as my launch white controller did out of the box already.

Profchaos96d ago

Yeah I got the black controller and it's been way better than my launch ones also. I had to return my launch one cause of stick drift and the replacement had the springs snap in the L2 trigger then that replacement got drift again then I finally tried the black controller it's been flawless so happy with it

dumahim95d ago (Edited 95d ago )

My original didn't last a year before stick drift took over. (edit: actually, don't think it made it 6 months since I first experienced the drift in AC which I started playing around January after the PS5 launch). I bought the black one as soon as it came out. Now it doesn't last a day's worth of gaming.

FPSRUSSIA97d ago

never had a problem with the battery life or stick drift good to know that they improved it.

isarai97d ago

This is the 1st controller I've had stick issues with unfortunately, took it apart and cleaned it even though it already looked clean, but the drift came back after couple days. Kinda bummed about it honestly cause I take good care of my stuff

EvertonFC96d ago (Edited 96d ago )

Same fella, never had a problem with previous gens but this one I'm on my 3rd already and I take very good care of my controllers and tech in general.
I've put it down to GT7 and rocket league 😂🤣

Profchaos96d ago (Edited 96d ago )

Same I'm on my 4th since launch 2 with drift and 1 with the springs snap off if the trigger all warranty replacements but it's still annoying.

This is the only generation I've had an issue since the duelshock on PlayStation 1,2,34 PSP vita in fact all of those are still going strong and I've not even had drift with the switch joycon which was apparently common.

I definitely feel the launch whit controller was a lesser build quality perhaps rushed to meet launch date while the coloured revisions are better quality they have thicker trigger springs at minimum.
When I called it out in here that I was a bit disappointed I had three break I was called a liar

CrimsonWing6995d ago

Same here, even my replacement controller for the one with stick drift got stick drift. Third times the charm though, haven’t had issues yet.

I’m also extremely OCD careful with my stuff. Making sure dust doesn’t get in the hardware, keeping things clean, not being rough on the controller. I’ve just never had the stick drift issue until these PS5 controllers.

EvertonFC96d ago

After 6 hours of gaming I'm normally walking the dog, or making something to eat or take a break and listen to a podcast while battery charging.
Had a couple of drifts though

frostypants95d ago (Edited 95d ago )

The early gen controllers almost universally go wonky. all three of mine did (two white, one black). Every controller made since they released the galaxy series of colors has revised internals. The SKUs changed accordingly. The fact that they are actually calling this new one "V2" makes me think it's a pretty big overhaul because they've already quietly made changes to these.

GoodGuy0997d ago

I was thinking all it really needs is a battery upgrade and there ya have it. Hall effect sensors would be great too but this is a good upgrade.

darthv7297d ago

i didn't think battery life was much of an issue. Stick drift though....

blackblades96d ago

Me either and I think it wont solve the issue cause some people will still B* about it or something

CobraKai96d ago

I got the drift on my launch controllers. I dont play games long enough in one session for the battery to be an issue. I usually charge my controllers once every 3 days.

Profchaos96d ago

Same it's not amazing but I've never one been stuck unable to play. Drift is a far bigger problem

Abnor_Mal96d ago

I have no problem with battery life, but what I would have liked on this new version would be back buttons/paddles.

BlackDoomAx95d ago

They have the Edge for that. Or you could go the cheap way and install an extremerate, it's easy and nice.

Abnor_Mal95d ago

The Edge is not worth the price if all I want is the back buttons, all the other bells and whistles the Edge can do I’m not interested in.

The PS4 back buttons were a very inexpensive solution that could have been added to the DS

Sony Appears to be Working on a New Version of the DualSense

Sony seems to be working on a new version of the DualSense that would improve on the PS5 controller with some extremely helpful features.

Jin_Sakai137d ago (Edited 137d ago )

Pretty awesome. Hopefully they add a bigger battery to boot.

“The button hints would also be spelled out on the controller's touchpad, which would actually double as a display. This is not the first patent indicating that the DualSense 2 might feature a touchscreen instead of a touchpad, as another such IP filing emerged online back in September. As for the concept at hand, the controller that it describes wouldn't just be capable of lighting up its buttons, including its shoulder triggers, but also both of its analog sticks.“

_SilverHawk_137d ago (Edited 137d ago )

Sony needs to make a controller that can work on ps1,ps2,ps3,ps4 and ps5.

Mr_cheese136d ago

Surely you understand that that isn't feasible or warranted

Profchaos136d ago (Edited 136d ago )

Sony won't but there's manufacturers out there that do make that. Brooks is the one I have and can use my DS3,4 and duelsense on my PS1 and PS2 almong with Xbox controller and switch pro etc.

Note it feels better than a original controller however you still have the same controller functionality so most shooters play better with R2 as shoot but during the PS2 R1 was the standard as we didn't have triggers yet so the games feel sometimes unnatural to play

They have adapter's for most systems even modern ones want to use an Xbox controller on switch. For some reason they probably have something for that.

SonyStyled136d ago (Edited 136d ago )

You can use a DualShock 4 or Dualsense on a PS3. You can use a PS1 and 2 controller on a PS3 with an adapter.

What you are asking for is a wired Dualsense, or a wireless receiver for a Dualsense to play on PS1 and PS2. Everything else is already compatible out of the box.

MrNinosan136d ago

Why would they do or need that? 🤔

_SilverHawk_136d ago

some people take their fanboy allegiance to a degree that logical ideas are hated. i play on all consoles dating back decades ago which is evident by my profile wallpaper and not just the one or two consoles some people can only afford. i like playing older games or retro games on original hardware but id prefer to have more ergonomic and durable controllers with modern internals that can play different generations of gaming consoles. i prefer not to fiddle with adapters to use uncomfortable controllers when playing retro games and would like it if sony had one controller akin to the dualsense that can play all generations of sony gaming consoles. there are a lot of uncomfortable controllers from the past made by nintendo so it would be nice if nintendo had something like the wavebird that can play all nes consoles or microsoft with a duke/360 controller to play all xbox systems. it probably will never happen because i can see a lot of people crying about the controllers not being cheap because im quite sure those controllers would definitely be more expensive

Cool

Hopefully any upgrades and the like are kept for the PS6. If we start wasting things on mid gen consoles then the next gen isn’t as “wow” worthy compared to holding out and seeing a massive difference from something released 8 years ago or something.

purple101137d ago

Totally agree
Good point.

Would make it much better to have these things for nex-gen, with games that tie in on release

Sony have many weird patients, they are sony after all.

I remember one, with sweat sensor and the obvious heart rate monitor of course.

-Foxtrot137d ago

Yeah it’s just I feel like if we didn’t have the PS4 and the like we’d have been a little bit more blown away with what the PS5 / Xbox Series X could have done at launch

VenomUK137d ago

The touchscreen may or may not be useless.
If it is just repeating info on screen it may end up being ignored like the colours on the DualShock 4.
However if it can provide actual useful information, guidance for play that complements what is on screen, eg showing how to perform a move, or accessing inventory, without having to go to the menu, then it might work.

However, Sony must get it running with multiple games so they know if it actually provides a benefit beyond the cool sounding concept.

Tody_ZA137d ago (Edited 137d ago )

I agree with you Fox except about the PS4, as it was one of the best generations for PlayStation so I'm absolutely glad it exists. Perhaps the PS4 Pro could have been skipped, but I was glad to play God of War at 60fps ;)

Stanjara137d ago (Edited 137d ago )

It wasn't 60. It was all over the place... around 45-50. I couldn't do it and played at fidelity 30.

badz149136d ago

I just want them to introduce the back button attachment like they did with the DS4. I love that thing and would definitely buy them for my controllers without having to buy the Edge.

HICK136d ago

Look into the mods you can do. I just did one and it was easy. RISE4 eXtreme Rate is what I did but you can do one with just 2 buttons.

PCgamer98136d ago

Back buttons should have already been the standard for default controllers. I can't believe we're still using the same controller layout from decades ago.

victorMaje136d ago

Agreed. If the revisions sell it may become a yearly thing which I’m not sure how to feel about.
Dualsense blew me away. If there are revisions the wow factor may get lost.

Vits137d ago

Honestly, I would dig a screen on a controller. I always liked the Dreamcast implementation of the VMUS, which could be simulated by something like this. The buttons lighting up could be cool for some accessibility-specific scenarios. Still, for general usage, I can't think of any potential uses that can't be achieved by ordinary buttons.

That said. If they are going to make a new controller, I would love them to invest in more repairability. Modular sticks, easier access to the battery, etc.

__y2jb136d ago

The vmu was a good idea, very badly implemented and went totally unsupported.

gold_drake136d ago (Edited 136d ago )

no no no, a screen on a controller is a bad idea. really really bad idea.

1. battery life lol
2. the amount of times my controller fell down somewhere because i either didnt see it is or it just slipped.pffmof something is alot.

Vits136d ago

1. Just put a decent battery on the controller. If Flydigi manage to do it with their Apex 3, Sony can with their devices as well.
2. That is a "you issue", stop having lettuce hands. /s

darthv72136d ago

They could just enable 2nd screen support for the portal.

Vits136d ago

Honestly, I find it bizarre that is not a thing at the moment.

RonnySins137d ago

Hopefully the battery would be bigger this time.
