I have seen this articles for years and in the end it's always the same. Fishful thinking.
I never think of one replacing the other. I do think of them complimenting each other though. There are times i just want to play a portable / mobile game and there are times i want to play a console game. I think it's fair to accept both for what they are. Just extensions to each other.
TL:DR it's not.
