Has to be some major games if they expect to ship that much. I'm guessing RE8, Street Fighter 6, and possibly 1 or 2 Monster Hunter games. They could have a new one for PlayStation and Xbox while porting World to Switch or maybe they made a Switch exclusive one.

Abriael1873d ago (Edited 1873d ago )

Surely seems like that considering that the increase is basically all new games. And the interesting thing is also that they plan to have few SKUs. which means few very big ones.

naruga1873d ago (Edited 1873d ago )

RE 3 Remake should have failed and not give sales ...it was a terrible game ....i hope they dont release a RE8 folllowing the idiotic logic of FPS- RE7 and RE3 cheapness

Felix_Argyle_Catbro1873d ago (Edited 1873d ago )

@naruga

RE7 is great and RE3 is good, just not in a proper remake kind of way.

darthv721873d ago

I know Im in the minority here but I'd love to see them bring back Lost Planet.

Movefasta19931873d ago

Devil may cry 5 se, 3se came a year after 3 if I am not mistaken, another Onimusha remaster , and maybe a switch monster hunter game come to mind.

Abriael1873d ago

They made the most successful Monster Hunter game ever by putting it on the most powerful platforms available (and as many of them as possible), and you think they're gonna turn around and make one for only one platform, which is also the weakest? 🤔

Veneno1873d ago

A dumbed down weaker version of course. Not the first time Capcom would have done this.

Movefasta19931873d ago

What Venemo said, a witcher 3 esque port, smaller enviorments maybe, less monsters, I am sure they can squeeze it in there.

Sgt_Slaughter1872d ago (Edited 1872d ago )

The Switch has more units sold than the Xbox One, why would Capcom willingly ignore 50+ Million potential customers? It would be bad for business. A brand new Switch Monster Hunter is more than warranted at this point, whether you agree or not.

Abriael1872d ago (Edited 1872d ago )

@Sgt_Slaughter: the Switch doesn't even come close in installed base to PS4, Xbox One, and PC combined, even less so if we add next-gen.

A Switch monster hunter is absolutely not warranted when they can simply use the resources to make a cross-gen Monster Hunter that encompasses all the platforms that aren't too weak to deliver an experience comparable or superior to Monster Hunter World.

And there is just one of them. Thank Nintendo for putting itself in a completely separate power bucket compared to the rest of the industry. Third-party exclusives are dying and targeting the top to mid-end of platforms leaving behind the bottom is something we'll see more and more going forward from third-parties.

Lore1873d ago

Really hoping for a Monster Hunter Stories release for PS4/PS5.

execution171873d ago

If they do make a monster hunter game for the switch I hope it looks and plays more like world since gen u looked pretty dated when it came out and the quality of life changed world has made going back a little hard to get into

iNcRiMiNaTi1873d ago

Yeah I'd love another onimusha. I'd also like for them do another okami game

jeremyj29131872d ago

They already "celebrated" DMC5's anniversary back in March with a single tweet and nothing else. 😢

Sgt_Slaughter1872d ago

It just barely hit over 3 Million in sales, maybe they were expecting more. It's the most in the franchise but it came out on three platforms which means that's a pretty low attach rate.

jeremyj29131871d ago

@Sgt_
Has always been a niche series and sales were around what they expected.

Definitely exciting for me. They have so many IP's they can revive that would be so great.

gold_drake1873d ago

im only interested in resi8 anyways. ha. not much of a street fighter fan.

Agent751873d ago

Hate to say it, but it’ll be same old, same old. Power Stone 3 will probably never happen. Most of us love old school 2D games, so how about a new Forgotten Worlds and UN Squadron? MERCS? Yeah, I’ve pushing the boat out, but these games are not going to cost a bucket load to develop. Most CAPCOM memories for me go back to Mega Drive, SNES, PlayStation 2 and Dreamcast. After that, CAPCOM sort of started to fizzle. Never in my life did l think I’d see so many Resident Evil games. Devil May Cry is another franchise that’s been diluted. Wasn’t a fan of Dino Crisis, but would welcome a new game. Same situation with Onimusha. Maximo was pretty good on PlayStation 2 and who remembers Auto Modellista? Rezzzzzzzzzident Evil as some of us gamers call it.

Spurg1873d ago

You're waiting for those games while I'm here waiting for the next breath of fire game.

meka26111873d ago

God I would love if they revived that series.

CrimsonWing691872d ago (Edited 1872d ago )

I’d love a new Breath of Fire, but I’m conflicted after the last 3D entry. It’s for sure they won’t keep it sprite-based and I feel like they’ll ruin it somehow... but I was a firm believer that Square couldn’t make the FF7 Remake feel like the original and they shut me up pretty fast, so anything is possible, I think?

SinkingSage1872d ago

Devil May Cry has been diluted? Citation needed.
The gameplay has evolved exponentially with each numbered title.

It Shouldn't Take Expedition 33's Success to Remind Square Enix That Turn-Based Still Sells

TNS: Expedition 33 was the wake-up call Square Enix needed, telling it turn-based RPGs are still popular, but that shouldn't have been the case.

True, but if it does get it through their thick skulls, then that works.

Although, the Dragon Quest 1 + 2 HD remakes will be turn-based and (the worst kept secret) Final Fantasy IX remake should be turn-based I would imagine. Let's see if any newer games go turn-based too.

thorstein2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

DQIII HD Remake was turned based and very successful. Then there was a really obscure turn based game came Balder's Gate 3. I heard it might have done well.

Profchaos2d ago

I wouldn't be shocked if they switched ff to the vii remake combat system

PapaBop2d ago

It won't get through to them though, despite E33's success, they still won't risk going fully turn based for their big budget projects simply because they are still in the mindset that it needs to be action combat to appeal to the mainstream audience. I hope I'm wrong but don't underestimate just how stubborn Japanese execs can be

barom1d 20h ago

Ya'll are hyping up Expedition 33 too much. Reminder that FF XVI sold 3 million in a week and it took Expedition 33 approximately a month to get to that (33 days to reach 3.3 million).

While it is true that Sqaure Enix has moved away from turn based games compared to how they were in the past, there is a good reason for it.

Older gamers will know this but during the ps2 era, we were flooded with turned based games from Japanese studios and this created a form of fatigue back then going into the next generation.

When Square released FF13, they received heavy criticism for making the game turned based like every other FF game and not doing enough to innovate. This is why they made FF15, FF7 Remake and FF16 have real time combat. It gave the series a fresh spin and has brought in new fans to the series.

I personally would be happy with either turned based FF or the real-time combat version we see today.

Shane Kim2d ago

Remake and Rebirth have "turn based" if you set it in the settings.

Lexreborn22d ago

Dang wish I saw your post before I made mine because we definitely feel the same way lol

Profchaos2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Yeah hit the nail on the head but its like ww2 games we get hundreds of them then a decade of nothing and people start missing them i think we're going to start seeing them return

Claire, dragon quest even yakuza have seen turn based return

Runechaz1d 15h ago

Every Pokémon game is also a Turn Base RPG.. and selling millions

andy852d ago

Only need to look at their own game DQ 11 approaching 10 million to show there's a market. And that's not as big of a name as FF

Runechaz1d 15h ago

you can also look at the Pokemon game number

Tacoboto2d ago

Another article about Expedition 33 and Square Enix and turn-based games? This is starting to sound like propaganda.

The game didn't sell because it's a turn-based game; it sold and is enjoyed because it's a really freaking good game that released completed at a good price without gamer drama attached to it. No Mtx, no wait-until-it's-patched, minimal bloat, a self-contained story, no multiplatform BS. Just a solid original game that absolutely nails what it intended to do.

I was just about to say the same thing.

Maybe try actually listening to the fans who have supported the series for decades. This habit of ignoring your core audience just to chase people who were never interested in Final Fantasy in the first place makes no sense. And when that approach fails, doubling down on it is beyond baffling.

The battle system has never been the main reason non-FF or non-JRPG players stayed away. Gutting the series’ identity to chase a broader market doesn’t attract new players. It just alienates the loyal ones.

Keep going down this road and we’ll end up with Final Fantasy Fortnite abomination or a F2P Battle Royale game.. Oh wait…
