"The fifth game in WayForward's Shantae series, Shantae and the Seven Sirens, originally launched as a timed exclusive on Apple Arcade, later appearing on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Steam in 2020. Seven Sirens recently received the free “Spectacular Superstar” update that improves on the overall experience, so here we are with this review," says Co-Optimus
Shantae and the Seven Sirens has revealed a "Spectacular Superstar" update with many new features.
Shantae and the Seven Sirens is the 5th entry in the metroidvania series, and this may be the best one. Find out why in Jason Capp's review!
I certainly love me some Shantae, and this one is definitely one of my favourites in the series. It still falls a bit short of the Shantae I'm really wanting, but it's a lot closer than previous entries. For starters, I hope later entries ditch mobile so we can have full VA. I'm not counting on it, but screw mobile for that. Secondly, as much as I enjoyed the new forms here, I miss the originals, so I kind of want a return to Sequin Land.
If Shantae is to embrace a Metroidvania future, which is one I wholeheartedly support, I hope for there to be an increase and improvement in map icons so it's clear where key areas are, making it much easier to find them after backtracking, and especially after setting the game aside for a bit and coming back to it.
Otherwise though, Seven Sirens is a step in the right direction, especially after the more disjointed experience that is Half Genie Hero.
I'm all for smaller publishers helping get smaller games a physical edition but this one really should be with a company who can put it onto store shelves, like Leadman Games or XSeed Games like 1/2 Genie Hero was.
It's the fifth game in the series and there was already a Shantae game in stores three times before (Shantae, Pirate's Curse, and 1/2 Genie Hero) so it's a shame this is going to be so limited.
Limited Run games would put these physical versions on Xbox One if Microsoft weren’t so strict with the quantity of copies each game must print
Is the entire series available on current gen consoles? I know some of them are but I'm not sure about all of them.
