If the jaguar CPU can make games look this good running under 2 Ghz, imagine what could be done with a Zen 2 CPU?

CPU literally has ZERO to do with how a game looks

Bruh1854d ago

Yes and no, CPU has direct correlation to the physics on display and the frame-rate. Both of which are part of the visual package of the game.

Very dated comment I'm afraid most people would agree with you in 2013 but over the past few years game physics engines are being expanded upon and games are becoming more CPU bound.
Look at VR a 6th gen i7 is a minimum entry point.
Also look at recent YouTube videos of rdr2 running with 3rd gen I series CPUs vs 10th and the difference is over 50 frames with the same GPU and ram.

Another aspect of games that rely more on CPU can be crowded environments. Games like assassin's Creed unity performed so poorly on consoles because crowded areas really packed as many NPCs as possible in one space all with unique cpu instructions and actions which hammers the Jaguar despite a slightly weaker GPU the base X1 handled this not fantastically but slightly better than the base ps4.

This influenced game design titles like uncharted 4 and it's doc have markets that are heavily corwded but you are given a path you must follow without making you feel like you're following a path and the NPCs are given more scripted animations.

Looking at most games this generation physics engines are just not competing with with the GPU can deliver making game worlds look nice but feel static diamond city in fallout 4 comes to mind it's exactly the same if you enter it at the same time of day.

Most RTS games are heavily CPU bound for example it's more niche but you doesn't mean as much to that genre. It's still your primary calculation point that decodes the instructions it's given and really it's one of the most important things to delivery of smooth gameplay

Tried to come in and be the know it all and was wrong... what happens if we have no CPU? Since you know it all I'll let you guess.

Well yeah but over the years I read a lot about the CPU bottleneck current generation consoles have. And here even with said bottleneck TLOU 2 tier graphics is possible. Wow.
