Why A Final Fantasy VI Remake Should Have Happened First

Make no mistake: the SNES version of this game is beautiful, but this game could gain so much from a remake. A modern reincarnation of FFVI has a good chance to be superior to FFVII. Here’s why the Final Fantasy VI remake should have happened first.

How why should the remake for FFVII be put off for a FFVI remake? It’s not like Square Enix would ever put the production value of FFVIIR, which is on par with a mainline title, into remakes of their other classic games.

The better statement should’ve been that Square Enix should make 3D remakes of FFV & FFVI like they did with FFIII & FFIV prior.

And Trials of Mana released on SNES before FFVII came out, yet the latter got a remake released before the former so that logic doesn’t hold up.

Square Enix even released remasters of FFX & FFX-2 before they did so for FFIX. Plus those titles along with FFXII received remasters before they did for FFVIII, so that logic really doesn’t hold up.

You really asking why Square Enix doesn’t put in the same production value going into FFVIIR on a remake for FFVI, especially when FFVIIR is such an undertaking that it’s being released in multiple parts? This “treatment” as you call it isn’t something they’ll just apply to any multitude of titles.

If Square Enix were to release a FFVI remake it’d be on the production scale of Trials of Mana, Octopath Traveler or any of Tokyo RPG Factory’s titles. It’s ludicrous to think Square Enix would treat such a remake on the same scale as FFVII’s remake, or that they’d even put off FFVIIR for such a reason.

ninsigma1838d ago

Not sure that there is a first. I think it's ff7r and only ff7r. No remake of any kind would have happened if ff7 wasn't so beloved I think. I can't see the same resources being put into remaking the other games.

Nyxus1838d ago

Maybe if FF7R is a big enough success. But it's logical they went for this one first.

smashman981838d ago (Edited 1838d ago )

Based on what we know about ff7r now that we've played it I don't think a remake of VI makes sense the in the same vein as ffvii

Edit: to be clear I'd love to see a remake of 6 but I can't say why it cant be like vii for reasons.

-Foxtrot1838d ago

If this makes a lot of money they'll do the others

Now would they do 3 or so games? Probably not but I could see them doing a standard straight up remake for VIII, IX and VI even if it's just one game or two.

Poopmist1838d ago

Well ya 6 is the better of the 2

averagejoe261838d ago

Not according to the majority of FF fans

Imalwaysright1838d ago

And how do you know that? There are many FF fans that agree that FF6 isn't just better than FF7 but that it is the best in the series.

JWave1838d ago

I personally think 6 is the best Final Fantasy in terms of plot and score. I think 7 is more popular simply because it reached a wider audience at a pivotal point for gaming.

Atom6661838d ago

Majority of younger fans, maybe. VII gets a bump because of the huge marketing and push it received on PS1, but VI/III will forever be the stronger title imo.

DragonWarrior191838d ago

What? It's pretty widely agreed VI is the best. VII varies from fan to fan.

goldwyncq1838d ago

Yeah, it's only the vocal minority who thinks VI is better.

Neonridr1838d ago

I will admit that I enjoyed both titles immensely. But for me, the winner is VI. And that's no slight to 7. I just enjoyed the story better. But you can't go wrong with either title. I'd love to see a proper remake to 6.

Rocketisleague1837d ago (Edited 1837d ago )

Far I've seen the complaints of ff7 have story normally come from those who don't even understand the story. Used to hear complaints about jenova being the main villain and not sephirith. Stupid stuff like that. Kefka isn't a mommies boy etc.

Ff6 I've tried to play many times but I can never bring myself to finish it get a extremely slow.in the middle. Ff4 I have finished. Ff8 was my first one..ff7 is the best one imo. The world and variety of gameplay are tops.

Neither ff6 or.7 have the best musical score that goes to 8 or 10. Not saying much as all.ff games.pretty.much sit on top of.the industry there

6 "invented" a lot of the stuff that 7 would eventually use, but I can't think of anything that 7 didn't do better.

Materia is a better Esper system. Sephiroth is Kefka but with an actual backstory in the main quest. The world of FF7 has 10x the amount of diversity of biomes compared to 6's 10 castle towns. Etc.

Imalwaysright1837d ago

"Sephiroth is Kefka"

No, he really isn't. Kefka is the Joker of Final Fantasy games. A literal psychopath that was far more cruel and sadistic than Sephiroth and he actually accomplished his goal: becoming a god wich had as a side effect the destruction of the world. His hobby after the destruction of the world? Torturing the few that survived. Kefka makes other FF antagonists look like children and he is one of the most villanous antagonists in gaming history.

Exvalos1838d ago

Whatever your smoking I want some.

DafunkyRebel1838d ago

VI was a masterpiece and so was VII but I think it’s better to rebuild the love for the FF franchise after XV ruined it. People might ignore a VI remake if they fee jaded by Square but a VII is a sure sell

phoenixwing1838d ago (Edited 1838d ago )

I like the new and the old final fantasy games, xv with the dlc is a good entry in the series. And before you say how it shouldn't have had to release the dlc right now you can get all the dlc on sale for like 10 bucks

nobodyspecial1838d ago

How about we just remake every game ever made so everyone can have at least one thing they love be ruined?

Final Fantasy Head Talks About The Difficulties of Remaking Final Fantasy 6

"There are many FF6 fans inside the company, and they often ask me 'When are we making 6?'"

shinoff2183685d ago

Come on already square always on about this stuff. Half the game is done the story and all is already there , I imagine they'd take a couple things out. I can't imagine these days they'd leave the dog fighting in. Not that the player bet on it or anything but it was there

CrimsonWing69685d ago

I think because it’s easier to make grand games in pixel art rather than model everything in 3D as well as the amount of espers, spells, cutscenes, animations and whatnot it’d be a huge task to remake.

FinalFantasyFanatic684d ago

I'd prefer a HD-2D remake, but we're not getting that, I probably wouldn't want a remake like FF7R.

Flawlessmic685d ago

Give me ff9 and 10 remakes first and I'll be over the moon!

Those are my 2 personal favourites, although at this rate ff16 is quickly going to eclipse them both, which I mean I knew 16 was going to be good, but game of the gen so far and fav ff ever at this rate I wasn't expecting that.

Just love to see ff back in the spot light big time and it will only continue with ff 7 rebirth

shinoff2183685d ago

10 still don't look bad , I feel that could wait but word is 2026ish for ff10 remake

Flawlessmic685d ago

it doesnt look bad at all and is still suer playable, but more ffx is always a good thing for me, i go through and play it atleast once every 2 years hahaha

FinalFantasyFanatic684d ago

FFX could just use a remaster update with higher res textures and stuff, a remake on that game would be a waste.

on_line_forever685d ago

What about vagrant story & parasite eve ?

jznrpg685d ago

Yes and Yes . Vagrant Story first though for me

FinalFantasyFanatic684d ago

DO IT! They've been re-releasing a lot of their old games though, so maybe we can get a remaster or remake of those in the future.
