Let creators see these old games through a new lens.
Discover 10 timeless video games from the past that remain absolutely playable today. From Chrono Trigger to DOOM, these classics have aged like fine wine!
Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.
Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.
The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.
Resident Evil 3 remake got ported to Mac, iPhone and iPad.
Capcom has announced that Resident Evil 3 Remake will be the fifth entry in the series to receive an iOS port for Apple devices.
Remakes are for whatever the developers want. And sometimes retreading old ground is absolutely what we need to remember where we strayed from the path of what makes a good game.
Rethinking it in the right way without messing with the original but FF7 is going in the wrong direction. Resident Evil remake is a perfect example of not messing with the original while at the same time expanding on story, gameplay, and design.
FF7 remake had many moments that paid tribute to the original expanded on it to give it context and make it more appealing to the modern audience.
Story-
The introduction of the whispers was pure nonsense and shows the influence of Tetsuya Nomura. They might end up making FF7 remake story into a mess with what they pulled off here. I'm pretty sure Tetsuya Nomura and the writers wanted something new for the fans that have already played the original but I don't think they hit the spot with the new twist.
But there are moments that are great such as Hojo getting more screen time. The original he was barely there and was being portrayed as the bigger villain which didn't work.
Battle system-
Turn-based combat was fine in the original. I don't understand why they needed to make a new battle system for this game. They could have easily integrated a classic mode(not in relation to what they call classic in the game) where the combat is balanced and can be turned base. It is very clear that the new battle system was made for new players, not for classic players.
The new battle system works fine but it can get jarring at times. The camera is a main cause for concern as it does whatever it pleases. The designers have prioritized the spectacle of combat rather than making combat balanced and fair. This is especially bad during boss fights and when you get close to them, the camera doesn't pan out to give the player a proper view of what they're doing. This will be a cause for concern if they don't fix it because there are towering fights in the future which needs to be done justice.
There are many questions for the future of the FF7
-Will my maxed out materia, level and gear be transferred in the next game
-Will each section of the next game be treated to the same level of attention and expansion.
I'm going to predict and say that FF7 is all hands on deck at Square Enix. As in we are not going to get a FFXVI until FF remake is over which Im gonna predict is towards the end of next gen.
Gonna disagree with that. That's what a reboot or reimagining is for. The concept of a remake is to tell this same story with these same characters through a new lens, not to completely change it, be on the nose about changing it, or push forward with something that's very, very different from what came before. That's not to say they can't make some changes, the RE2 and 3 remakes did that, but they still retained the core of what the original games were.
This just feels more like giving people a license to take a classic game with a story and characters people love and just letting them do whatever they currently feel like doing with it, cashing in on nostalgia whilst not giving people what they came for.
Feels a bit off to me, being honest.
